Monolithsoft WiiU trailer - X (Takahashi x Tanaka x Sawano, Xenoblade x/multiplayer?)

Sawano being the composer is interesting. On one hand I find his anime work a bit mixed, you'll tend to see some similarities between his tracks, on the other I think his style will fit very well in this kind of game. Probably give it a boost in notoriety with the Japanese audience as Sawano is very popular right now.

Having had another couple good looks at the trailer, I didn't really have much of a chance this morning, I'm still just as hyped as I was earlier. It looks really impressive, the mecha stuff is sick. Multiplayer isn't too much of a surprise, it fits well with XenoBlade and there were some signs of it in their job postings. Should be pretty awesome if they get it right. Looking forward to seeing what changes they've made to the XenoBlade formula, if it is indeed some sort of sequel/spiritual sequel, there are certainly some stuff that can be improved even if it was wonderful game.

Never played Xenoblade before but I always wanted to, this looks really cool. If/when I get a Wii I am likely going to try this out, it looks excellent.

My impressions

1. Visuals - I am spoiled, to me this is sort of what we are supposed to get in 2013 and beyond.

2. Better not be a multiplayer-focused game.

So I was staring at this image, and thinking a bit, and I think I see explicit confirmation that this is a direct sequel to Xenoblade.

As those of you who've played Xenoblade will know, there's a day/night cycle in the game; different monsters appear at different times, for instance, with occasional 'special weather conditions' leading to special monsters appearing.

While we don't see any day/night cycle directly, there *is* a clock for some reason, and I think inspecting the clock does give a pretty big hint that this might be a sequel to Xenoblade.

lol

I was wondering who the composer was. I wonder if the game will have more than one though.

I thought so too, but when I checked through the trailer, they have scenes from many different times. Early morning, late morning, afternoon, etc. It's definitely not as vibrant as Xenoblade, but maybe there's a reason for that.

Seems to be another case of bright -> dark -> bright that we see in creative enterprise. Thinking of Metroid Prime 2, Zelda MM/TP, Empire Strikes Back, Star Trek into Darkness etc.

If X is a sequel to Xenoblade. This has probably been theorized already. However I bet it's going be a sequel in a loose sense the same way Korra was to Avatar : The Last Airbender. I also expect a much bigger time gap between the two. I still gotta finish Xenoblade someday, just so I can get a good idea of what the state of the world after Xenoblade is.:)

Moreover, if it's anything like gears, it could be interesting if we see
reicarnations of characters from Xenoblade; although if it's anything like xenosaga we'll probably see similar-looking characters who have nothing to do with the cast of XB lol
.

Also does anyone suspect with the multiplayer this might not have a traditional cast of party members, and instead it will be like souls/dragons dogma in that you'll create your own character + class and let him roam free in the world. Hope the story doesn't suffer as a result of that potential design decision.

I couldn't leave it alone, so I apologize in advance for getting your hopes up.

after altering that frame, I thought to myself "how would that look in motion?". So I changed the entire gif. And I think it would be rude to keep it all to myself. so here you go:

WOW, that's cool. Might look a tad bit too colourful though...

tbh, this looks way better to me, haha. could be toned down a taaad, but i'd still take it over the dullness of what's been shown so far.

I don't like that adjustment at all. Looks tacky as hell, and really unnatural. :P

I am not saying they should get some cheap overlays like I did. I am just pointing out that more color can make a huge difference.

Obviously you can't create a representativ image with photoshop because it changes every texture, so the ingame result would look diferent. But I do believe that it gives a vague idea how it could look (better).

edit: you may remember the artworks for xenoblade?
thats how envisioned a sequel to look like

It'll be really funny if some of the people complimenting the photoshopped gif were the same people calling the new Wind Waker ugly because of it's color :P

I definitely think it has to do with the source material for Wind Waker, though. They wanted to keep the cartoonish aesthetic. It's understandable, but I like it either way. It's also a tad too bright.

I'd like X to have a bit more color to it as well. I really hope the vistas have some variety.

But this isn't a sequel to Xenoblade. And this isn't Xenoblade.

I love you! <3

Please don't let Monolith Soft fall into the same trap as other devs have. We do want colors!

Finally got that feeling I've been lacking since the Wii U officially launched.

That feeling on being genuinely and thoroughly impressed with what a new console brings to the table, while seeing lots more potential for the future. It's largely due to this game, but also in part to the satisfying level of quality seen in some other games recently displayed(esp: 'Yoshi Yarn' & TW-101).

Oh, and guys... after all the numerous weeks of "Wii U barely current-gen" and "will struggle with large open-world games with that laughably slow main-ram" trolling, it's time to give credit where due. I haven't seen any open-world games on current consoles(out now, or coming) that looks this good, and it's probably not even due for final polish yet. So impressed!

If Nintendo can convey strong messages with the right marketing for these games, things will get rather interesting down the line.

You know, as long it had a good offline mode like Monster Hunter (I assume it does?) or Phantasy Star Online, I would actually be all for an MMO.
