Whoa! MonolithSoft is bringing it! Looks cool, but early (HUD stuff looks really basic). I hope there's a single player and a Xeno/Takahashi story in there too. I'm not really big on multiplayer RPGs. Gonna be interesting to see how this game progresses in the coming months. Regardless, will probably turn out good!
I wonder if Takahashi is going to try to create a story with Xenosaga/Xenogears complexity again. With Xenoblade they aimed to do a more Shonen-like story, and with this I hope Takahashi goes back to making more complex stories.
People give Xenosaga a ton of shit for its story but if you read the Perfect Guide it's very, very interesting and well though out. They just weren't able to translate everything they wanted to a game, and I hope Takahashi and crew are able to do what all they want now. Third time's the charm?
I don't mind the color so far if we at least get one or two areas that have more than this. I think Monolith is going to do more fun things with the lighting this time though.
Well, most of the footage is shown during sunset/night time. I'm sure there will be a lot of breathtaking scenery in the game, but it's inevitable to lose some of that visual flare when you switch over to a more realistic art direction.

Kind of sad when you consider neither Xenosaga or Xenogears got even half of what they set out to do accomplished. Xenogears's (which was only the 5th tale in the game's much larger narrative) 2nd disc was kind of trashed by what I understand was development of Final Fantasy VIII and Xenosaga got shortened to three entries when it was originally meant to be six, so all the rush and cut corners really started to weigh it down in the end.
At best I think we'll get something that tries to thematically tie all three together in a unofficial way. I'd certainly prefer something more along the lines of Gears or Saga, but I'm definitely not expecting it. We're sure as hell not getting anything set in Xenosaga or Xenogears continuity specifically.
On a slightly related note. How did Xenoblade Chronicles sell here?
Are these comments coming from people who never played Xenoblade? Because all I see in the trailer is "this looks like Xenoblade" followed by "HOLY SHIT GIANT ROBOTS!"

It's the party chat and the three bars below that somehow feels like public, private, group chats of MMO to me. But then again, this might be because I don't want it to be an MMO so I see everything like signs of this being an MMO, lol.

Xenoblade was a gameplay first, story second kind of deal I believe. Maybe this time around he was more prepared for the story. But I'm guessing Nintendo dictates how the projects are handled.
I'm kind of torn. On one hand, it's great to have a Japanese dev that can contribute such a strong, gameplay experience. On the other, Monolith releasing games without a strong story focus feels like letting a strong component of Monolith's talent go to waste.
I have to imagine, if Xenosaga was released these days with the huge JRPG gap and subpar Final Fantasy performance, how would it have fared? In 2001/2002 it had to compete with FFX. This generation would have been FFXIII and all of its sequels. At this point, the only company attempting a strong story focused JRPG series is Falcom, and good luck with seeing modern Trails games ever localized.
If they have Xenoblade's long story + the amount of sidequests + online, the length/playability will be ridiculous lol. I think they're gonna cut down on the amount of sidequests from Xenoblade though.

Disclaimer: I still have yet to and look forward to playing Xenoblade once I acquire a Wii U
Takahashi talked about wanting to focus on world building. I don't know what that means for the general story, but the world should be interesting, and not just from a gameplay perspective.

Probably longer sidequests to make up for the less amount. I don't worry about the story because Takahashi has always delivered on this front. Even his worst stories have been leagues beyond what the vast majority of the gaming industry puts out.

World building is like side elements to the story. Stuff that makes the world feel alive. A lot of the stuff that was in the Xenogears Perfect Works are world building elements, such as the organization of the cities, the history of the religions, etc, etc. Nowdays technology has advanced to the point that such elements can be a part of the game itself in sidquests and such.
This looks way too good, I really hope the washed out colors are from bad trailer quality as opposed to actual washed out colors. The faded colors give it the appearance of bad IQ or something.
Pretty sure it's intentional. This is a common JP styling trend, to wash out colors and contrast. Platinum Games are probably the worst offender. It looks awful, not really sure what the appeal is for them. I think it might be a way to visually distiguish their games from western fare.

The first time i played Xenoblade, i was surprised when i stumbled upon a big monster an hour into the game, thinking that the game was somehow linear i tried to kill it, just to realize that the game throws random monsters at random levels in the world, so i got my ass handed to me and my first death, i can't wait to see what they do with this game.
Animations are a bit rough but I dont get the complaint about the visuals. The world seems very big and it looks pretty enough. Really looking forward to this.

Yeah, I'm at like 108 hours and counting. The sidequests have been all over the place. If it wasnt for the money.....and the experience....anyway. Yeah, they should just make the sidequests juicier and cut down some of the less meaningful ones off
Seeing the mecha just made me wish for more mecha games.I hope this gen delivers. Also am i the only one that found that face at the end of the trailer to look horrible? it's like SO4 model bad.Everything else they showed looked great.
I'm sure that this has been mentioned before, but I just remembered reading this quote from an article on Siliconera:
Siliconera said:
In a series of interviews conducted internally last year, Monolith Soft discussed their projects and aspirations. Regarding their Wii U project, they were rather tight-lipped regarding what to expect, but they did say that it will be a challenging game that will get people together, and that you can expect it to be both very flashy and addicting.
If you are capable of doing so one really should watch this trailer on the Wii U itself. In the Wii U eShop there is a Nintendo Direct section that has the trailer. The game looks amazing but even more so once it's playing in high quality on my actual TV and not my computer screen. It's still a video but just the size of the image on the TV really shows off the scale of the game even more I think. The same goes for The Wonderful 101.
Concerning the story, I get the feeling Monolith Soft want to make this next title their "magnum opus" so I would be surprised if Takahashi didn't want to include a good, hefty story to go with it.

via xenoverse.xenotensei - "Takahashi said that he would like to see people on the development team who isn't a player or interested in games, but who knows art and literature well."
I think this might be the single most excited I've ever been for a game. The moment when he gets into the gear for the first time and starts flying out into that beautiful landscape is probably going to stick with me until I get to play the game itself!
