You think there's still a chance Teo will go in the first round? I can't see any team wanting him in their locker room. He's poison and a nutjob, pathological liar. What team is going to want to deal with that and the drama/questions from reporters?

I think Teo is going to have to have a great combine to avoid falling. I think he will till go somewhere in the 1st round, Dez still went middle of the 1st with his character questions. Teo's biggest problem is NFL GMs are ruthless during the interview sessions leading up to the draft. A story came out about a team calling Dez's mom a prostitute to see how he would react. Teo is going to get some really tough questions about all the inaccuracies in his story, I dont see how he can answer those without looking like a liar who is all about self promotion.

Plenty of guys who have 1st round talent wind up falling out of the 1st round. It happens every year. Not saying it will definitely happen in this case, but people were talking about him as potentially top 5 depending on how he does at the combine. No way does he go that high now.

Pacman jones and Dez Bryant got drafted in the 1st round. He'll JaMarcus Russell can barely put together a single coherent sentence and he went 1st overall. And in 2 weeks a middle linebacker that was involved in a scandal regarding REAL dead people, not fake ones, is going to be celebrated and circle jerked as he attempts to ride off into the sunset. In short, when it comes to character, NFL don't care. If you can play you can play. And Teo might have been exposed as not being a top 5 of 10 pick, but he's still a very good MLB that teams will want to have.

Maybe for the interview, a team is currently putting together a new fake girl and is going to try to seduce Manti, and then will ask Manti about her in the interview.
 
Te'o and his shitty university are both frauds. It's just icing on the cake that this story broke after they lost the BCS title game. I keep hoping that one golden domer clown will keep posting, but he's been shockingly absent.

And there are a ton of guys like Lawrence Phillips and Maurice Clarrett that were projected to be 1st rounders but slide big time. Look at a guy like Randy Moss, he was the most talented player in the draft the year he came out, but he fell into the 20s due to character issues. How many times does a guy fail a drug test for weed and then his stock plummets, that happens all the time.

Those involved criminal activity. Of course those are going to cause more concern because if your players are out committing crimes or failing drug tests, they are going to miss games or incur the wrath of Goodell. Teo broke no crimes. At worst he is a massive asshole, at best he's a naive asshole. I don't see that scaring off many teams if they think he's talented.

On the other hand, all you have to do to completely eliminate Teo from a game is to reveal to him that his lover didn't exist. And it's not like there's a limit on how many fake girlfriends you can make up... so...

Jeremy Schaap has obtained from "a source" (Te'o?) what are purported to be Manti Te'o's phone records, covering the four months from May 11 through Sept. 12, when Lennay Kekua "died."

This screengrab ran on SportsCenter, and presumably more details will be forthcoming, but for now, the records show 1,000 calls between Te'o and a Southern California area code supposedly belonging to Kekua, with 110 of those calls lasting longer than an hour.

Te'o has maintained he was initially the victim of a hoax, and after learning that Kekua wasn't real he continued to keep the story alive for fear of embarrassment.

Update, 3:25 EST: Apparently, ESPN doesn't have the actual phone records. They have "a spreadsheet" from their source, which claims it represents Te'o's phone records. We've changed our headline to reflect this.

Good question. They must feel pretty confident it is legit. Or they are really pissed that Deadspin broke the story originally and now are doing everything they can to get all the newest developments first (Te'o interview, Facebook messages, phone records, etc.).

I think this is worse for him if it's true. It proves without a doubt that he is a gigantic idiot and not just a liar.
 
It still just doesn't make any goddamn sense. Ok, I can accept that Roniah Tuiasosopo is a fucking crazy person who was willing to dedicate inordinate amounts of time to hoaxing people. Fine. But now I also have to accept that there was a female involved who committed hundreds of hours to phone conversations with Manti, his friends, and his family? With literally no end game in mind? Nothing to gain? I aint buying this shit until I hear from both Roniah and this mystery girl.

It's all going to depend on how Te'o responds to NFL gm's who intimate that his fake dead girlfriend was a prostitute.

The sleeping on the phone thing was when Lennay was in a coma and couldn't speak. So I'm guessing it was Ronaiah on the phone then. And it's pretty well-established by now that he is, as you said, a "fucking crazy person".
 
If ESPN's source is credible (color me skeptical), it would certainly add fuel to the argument that Te'o and Tuiasosopo were in a relationship and created Kekua as a weird imaginary beard.

I still don't buy that theory, by the way.

If you subscribe to that theory, you would have to assume that Tuiasosopo was also trying to spark up gay relationships with almost every college and NFL player of Polynesian descent... oh, and Reggie Bush.

How come all the "evidence" that points to Manti being innocent are:

1) reported by ESPN first
2) ultimately coming from an anonymous source

???

First we have ESPN saying an anonymous source knows Ron Tui and that Ron Tui admitted that Manti was not in on it. Then we have this, also ESPN reporting an anonymous source giving us the evidence.

I don't see him going in the first round because he's not even good at football.

A first round draft pick would have made a play somewhere in the title game. I can't even remember if he had any tackles the whole game.

Really was he killing him? Maybe I tuned in during another segment but at worse what I heard him say was something along the lines of "at first I thought he was a part of the hoax but after the Couric interview I get the sense he fell for it and then lied after finding out about it in December. He embellished the story and didn't deny it either because he liked the publicity or didn't know how to handle it..."

And I doubt this incident deters too many teams from drafting him late in the first round. That was his value anyway and after vetting him and putting him through the ringer at the combine and other pre draft evaluations I am pretty sure they will value him higher than say someone with similar talents but with a criminal record.

The idea of a "spreadsheet" is hilarious. If there were real phone records wouldn't it be easier to forward actual phone records from AT&T rather than re-typing everything into a spreadsheet?

If his AT&T is the same as mine, you can grab a simple PDF from any billing period that lists every single phone call. He should have just been able to take that and just scrub what he wanted to keep private.
 
If Manti ever gets himself a real wife, and has a real daughter with her, I would regain respect for him if he names her Lennay Kekua Te'o, so she can actually exist in real form

Hahaha. I have a feeling this imposter wasn't the most convincing female voice either. But Manti probably brushed off any doubt by convincing himself that she just had a deeper voice than most. Plenty of Samoan women have deep voices, thought Manti Te'o.

edit: going by the singing maybe he does have a natural falsetto. Still, I bet his female accent sounded fake, and after over 300 hours of talking to Manti on the phone, you would think he would have broke character at some point
