Monolithsoft WiiU trailer - X (Takahashi x Tanaka x Sawano, Xenoblade x/multiplayer?)

I haven't played MonHun, but from what I can divine MonHun is very hard with an extremely steep learning curve. Attacking is very slow and deliberate and missing or attacking at the wrong time will get punished immensely. There is a preparation period before hunting one of the top-tier beasts where items are acquired to be used in the fight to increase survivability. The monster itself has certain patterns that a player needs to learn so he/she can avoid or punish it. Fighting is very skill based as there are no RPG elements or leveling, just gear that you can fashion from slaying lesser beasts.

Obviously someone with actual experience should fact-check/fix that.

Far as I can tell, monster hunting in X will be pretty much the same as Xenoblade but with that limb targeting system seen in the trailer. Fighting will still be determined by party management, artes use and stats.
That is a fairly accurate description of the series though the learning curve isn't extremely steep.

what are you talking about?

RPGS aren't supposed to have monsters anymore

Yeah humans only. No monsters. No diversity is the way I want things.

Lol, yeah thats what I said.
What was shown in the trailer focused solely on fighting Monsters, very very big Monsters. We didn't saw much, but it reminded me more of a Monster Hunter type game than of a J-RPG/Xenoblade. And if that is the direction they want to take with the final game I am not very happy.

I found Monster Hunter to be very boring, tedious, and repetitive, and it is more oriented as a multiplayer game as doing everything by yourself would be most difficult later on.

So what other games do you like that are analogous to MH?

Thanks, I pride myself on my observational skills.

Xenoblade had you fighting large monsters too. It seems like they were showing off the graphical capabilities and not showing the main focus of the game.

Haha, I was surprised at how well you described Monster Hunter. Only thing you missed was it can be a bit grind-y which wouldn't be easy to observe.

I doubt the game is only about attacking the wildlife of the planet

I'm sure the story will delve into the mechs, the reason they exist, and the people who created them

God Eater was terrible.

Lord of Arcana/Apocalypse. Liked it a little bit better but not by much.

But it's practically the same thing but actually doable by yourself.

It's the first trailer. People expect too much.

That's just not true. There were some normal sized monsters as well, and a freaking giant robot. I don't see how that's different from Xenoblade, except that you are now able to target specific parts on an enemy.

Well it's pretty obvious that trailer wasn't meant to showcase any story but show how the game would look/play. Plus you fight a ton of huge monsters in Xenoblade too.

I wonder if those mechs/dolls you can pilot are related to the Mechon robots , but maybe from an alternative universe or something crazy like that.

It seemed much more "actioney" to me than Xenoblade, like Monster Hunter. While Xenoblade was very fast for a J-RPG, it came down to Party-Management in the end and not to quick reflexes/dodging etc. For ME the trailer seemed to indicate that this will me more the case in this new game.

Let's put it simple before you stake me for making the reference to MonsterHunter:

It looks more action orientated than Xenoblade from that trailer, I don't like that.

edit: Xenoblade found the perfect balance between "fast-action" and "J-RPG" feel.

Yeah, this looks just like a sizzle reel for big-ass monsters since they were the best thing to fight to stretch your wings in Xenoblade.

You mean because they edited the scenes where the main character is attacking instead of showing him waiting for his turn to go?

I'm starting to think that maybe what we saw in the trailer is actually just one area. And its possible the areas could be put into sections again like Xenoblade.

id be willing to bet thats the case actually.

i don't really care xenoblades is da shit, online multiplayer xenoblades pretty much seems pretty appealing.

Actually, the whole trailer only shows some parts around the lake and the waterfalls.

Aside from the Mech flying scene at the end where you have an overview, seeing the lake/waterfalls and the rest of the area.

To get a better sense of scale, take these three GIFs:

What do they have in common? Well:

That small shoreline you see to the left of the first image? That's the same shore you see the player running in the bottom image.

and to think, this is only a small portion of a game we got in a one minute trailer.

I...don't think I would be able to survive if they do a similar one for this game

well this one came very late in the cycle and full of spoilers but imagine a video of flying the Doll around the world buzzing close to cities and other areas with kickass music

edit: you know I feel silly for thinking moving grass was special because of this thread but Xenoblade had more moving grass lol

The first pic is wrong though. The red circled feature in the second and third pics is to the right of the waterfalls, not the left as the first pic shows.

The mountain at the top right of the first mecha gif can be seen in the third gif on the beach, positioned directly between the feature and the waterfall.

I do think it's all one map though.

I actually don't think the landmark in the first gif/pic is the same as in the other two, but it looks huge nonetheless.

Just noticed that as well. And that mountain is faaaar away in the last gif.

So people were saying that there were 4 party members. Do they mean at least 4 different party members with some switched out or leader + 3 party members because I can only see leader + 2 party members.

it is not but they match perfectly like Bionis had plenty of this things this world whatever it is has these kinds of landmark features too

it is the same map just the other side of the same waterfall

I love the way Nonolith designs land mass with symmetry.

The detail on the beasts is pretty impressive, as you can see when this one lands. I imagine this would look really nice on my television.

You know, I think he's standing atop the landmark in the first image...

What if that mech was on top of that landmark. The positioning is there.

I think the big landmark is actually behind the Doll, just like Zenaku pointed out. And I think the circle in the first point is where the party fights that huge monster.

Edit: Or he is on top, but that seems really insane
and awesome!

You know, I think he's standing atop the landmark in the first image...

I was just thinking that. That it was possible that landmark was behind him in the first image or he was actually on top of it. The trailer did look like it all took place on the same map. Which is amazing because that area is massive. I really hope there a number of large areas like this or better yet it changes over the course of the story. Environment interaction/destruction is something I love.

Let's just hope this area wasn't made just for the trailer or testing purposes and the actual game has this area included.

Yeah that looks about right. So this trailer took place within a single area, and we know areas can look wildly different so let's hope the other areas are more colouful.

I love this triangulation business.

What if that mech was on top of that landmark. The positioning is there.

I thought that myself, but the feature seems to slope down, while the Doll looks to be standing on a ledge pointing slightly upwards. It definitely looks to be in that area though, and I wonder if it may be that rock between the one we can see and the larger feature.

So when are we assuming this is coming out, mid 2014 or late 2014?

Since they finished Xenoblade in 2010, and assuming they've been working on this in some form or another since then, mid 2014 seems reasonable, depending weather or not Nintendo wants to use this to fill some gaps in their lineup.

can anyone judge how far back it is in any other angle shots?

Colony base of some kind true enough the guns are clear (maybe with vines hanging from the guns?) and the towers have window lights at least if its not my imagination

Well if you look closely at the upper right you'll see the large feature we've been looking at, just from the other side. It looks to be not too far from the waterfall, which is likely hidden behind the feature.
