Ugh. That means too much CGI and not a return of the excellent model work (probably).

This does not make sense to me at all. I hope I am proven wrong.

Do you really care about this? Aside from the fact that the Star Trek film was very set-heavy (rather than green screen heavy), aren't there about 20 things that are far more important than the quality or type of effect that made the last films crap and the originals fantastic? Things like character and narrative and pacing and and and?

Already imagining the unbearable amount of lens flare the moment someone turns on a lightsaber.

edit-
wtf in the other thread noone had made a flare mention!

Directing Star Trek and Star Wars?

...is that allowed?
That's what's surprising for me as well. As far as Abrams I'm actually fine with him directing Episode 7. I really liked Star Trek 09 and the new Trek movie looks like it'll be a solid movie also.

“Look, Star Wars is one of my favorite movies of all time,” J.J. gushed. He added, “I frankly feel that – I almost feel that, in a weird way, the opportunity for whomever it is to direct that movie, it comes with the burden of being that kind of iconic movie and series. I was never a big Star Trek fan growing up, so for me, working on Star Trek didn’t have any of that, you know, almost fatal sacrilege, and so, I am looking forward more then anyone to the next iterations of Star Wars, but I believe I will be going as a paying moviegoer!” From a few months ago.

Ha ha.
