I love it.
Those lens flare jokes are so bad. I don't think anyone even noticed the lens flare while watching the movie and it just became some thing nerds on the Internet clings Onto and repeat over and over again. It's not funny it's just dumb.
I remember really enjoying Star Trek and then going online and seeing "yea but da lens flare!"
You guys are missing the point. I'm not saying that directors ought to be locked into the genres they've made good on, I'm saying that I'm confused why Affleck - out off all the good and much better directors than him out there, is the one I keep seeing championed. Even before this announcement. It's not about him not having a sci-if background. It's a lot to do with him lacking any sort of hard visual effects experience and people all of a sudden acting like he would be a great fit for a franchise heavily steeped in visual effects.
Abrams is a much, much better choice than Affleck.
Obviously the Star Trek reboot and Star Wars Episode VII are two very different things, but I could see JJ recasting Han, Leia and Luke.
And you know, I'd be totally okay with it.
Absolutely disgusting
The Iranian hostage crisis happened in... Iran.
Probably the best person to do it. The tone/pacing of his Star Trek film would make for a great Star Wars film, he does adventure well.

So will Williams be returning or will we get Giacchino?

please for the love of all that is holy. If you have these characters please just move the time period forward and let them be there actual age and played by the original actors.
nobody will be able to pull off those characters, it just won't feel right.

The same case could have been made with Trek though.

They didn't really recast anyone in Star Trek. I'd say the handling of that whole process of rebooting the franchise was handled really deftly by Abrams, even if the result was a pretty dull film.

But Trek is a reboot and not a straight sequel.

Both fine choices.
Hate on me all you want GAF. I love new Star Trek even though it differs from the originals and Affleck's proven to be a great director.
Also, this pretty much guarantees Michael Giacchino is doing the score.

But JJ could easily have just made a new Star Trek film with a completely new cast of characters and introduced Nemoy and Shatner as cameos, the fact that Star Wars is going with Ep7 means pretty much nothing, as it could have almost nothing to do with the timeline that we know of.
