Monolithsoft WiiU trailer - X (Takahashi x Tanaka x Sawano, Xenoblade x/multiplayer?)

Couple of things i'm wondering about, and I want some opinions.

1. If you look at this
amekbv.gif

if you look to the left at the beginning and the far right at the end of the pan, it looks like it might have ocean on both sides which may suggest its an island/peninsula. If so do you think this might be so that you can't go too far on your mech?

2. If this is a sequel to Xenoblade do you think the former party members will be playable or just npcs/cameos?

3. Since your mech seems to have finite fuel, will you have to head back to a base/town on foot or can you will your mech teleport to a refuelling station when you go to a base?

I have given up on this being Bionis or any relation to the Xenoblade world but we really don't know anything. That could still be Shulk at the end of the video even with Hair color changes who knows. In
Xenoblade at Fallen Arm
you had a beach and you could swim but was limited from hitting the edge of the programed map with poisoned pollution at the edge of the water.

Your flight to the edge of the map could simply be handled like other flight games with auto turn around

The UI screams Xenoblade but the setting and ending of XB is conclusive. I think I would prefer it to be only nebulously connected to make way for more new things.

What I want to know is the relevance of the Shulk lookalike. Black-haired dude, I would assume, is the protagonist, and I would think that they'd show his face at the end instead of the blond guy, but here we are.

Maaaan I'm really feeling compelled to start Xenoblade now :(

But the next couple months are ridiiiiculous. I don't know how I'll find the time.

I suspect this is how it will be.
The mech stuff especially seems very different from Xenoblade.

Some different timezone?

Blue-haired? Or were you meant to type black? :p

I really do think it's Shulk, I also notice the orange on his shoulder. The black-haired dude also has an orange tint around his shoulders too. Hm...

They really did not give us as many clues related to who is who, the first trailer of Xenoblade pretty much had most of the mains. But with this it is much harder. Why did they even have to give us the guy at the end? It throws us off because fans just jumped on the Shulk train right away.

Link's hair does change color sometimes for one game to another but it is always a different link not sure Monolith works the same way since I do not have a history of the Xeno games before the one I played on Wii.

I can't wait to see another trailer that gives us better clues about the story less about battles

I would be playing it right now if I did not hate Wii Mode so much :( I need to get over this because i still got to get back into Skyward Swords... my backlog has reached page 2 on my Wii U menu

Also, Shulk wears a turtleneck jumper and the blonde guy at the end looks like he's got a turtleneck jumper on too, except it's black.

Whoops, yeah, I did mean black. :P

You're right, the black-haired dude does have orange on the shoulder parts of his outfit. But I don't think the blond dude is Shulk, though...

Don't know what their original intention was by tossing him in out of nowhere, but it's certainly messing with the fans.

I bought the game, played it for a few hours hours and when I finally had the time to really start playing my Wii died.

Tried playing it on dolphin, but it doesn't run smooth when in combat so it's basically unplayable. I seriously need to buy a Wii U.

I think that there are a few reasons people believe that it is Shulj at the end. First of all, while we don't know what exactly this game is, some might presume a Xenoblade sequel purely because of the gameplay mechanics. The relationship to Xenoblade is already there. I'm sure the question these people ask is, "Why even show a character at the end if we aren't supposed to know who it is?"

We don't even see any of the playable characters' faces. I think the face belonging to Shulk is a safe guess. There really is no other candidate. It can be a new character, of course. If it is, however, we wouldn't be nearly as interested in who he is.

I think that believing it is Shulk naturally opens up possibilities about what happened to Xenoblade's world.

Red herring.

Vague spoiler:
I'd say there's a slim chance it's Shulk's son, and very likely that it's an unrelated character that looks vaguely like him...

Your reasoning's solid here, and admittedly, I'm starting to buy into it a bit and can't make a better case for my position, but... there's this nagging feeling inside of me that he's just a lookalike.

Red herring.

This is a valid point, too. Yargh, now I don't know what to believe. :P

Older Shulk? agh why is that face even there they focused on the black haired dude all trailer

maybe that over the shoulder guy wait...

This is the guy at the end right?

This sounds silly, but do you think Mr. Black Hair could be Shulk? His hairstyle is pretty much the same, maybe Monolith Soft have yet to colour it Blonde?

Also, he has a RED mech, Shulk had a RED Monado... Maybe the red mech is in some way attributed to him? Like the Monado was to Shulk?

Umm...I really doubt that lol. And we haven't seen the front of black hair dude's face to say the hairstyle is "pretty much the same."

Of all the criticisms of the graphics I don't recall anything about the giant, flat alphas used for the coral structures. So much scrutiny on the grass. :P

It's obvious with strong lighting.

Guy at the end is super saiyan black-haired dude. That's all I got.

look at my edit guys I think the guy at the end would make more sense in being in the video if those two are him... the hair cut would match the color could just be from the light source being stronger from the front making us think his hair is darker you know Wii U has crazy light powers :)

I think Shulk's/Shulk's look-alike's hair is darker just because X lends itself to darker colors and it's just a different shading/tone. So a blonde person in X wouldn't look like a blonde person in Xenoblade. I think you're overthinking it if you think the hair tone matters that much, as long as it's generally the same.

Yeah, that's what I think. This happens to many video game characters. In fact, I hadn't thought of it as a different shade, I thought it looked how it should look if it is Shulk.

again look at where the strongest source of light is coming from

I agree with Soriku, I think he is blonde and it is because of the art style being more realistic than the last game

I think those pics match... The guy on the beach(shore) though is different no doubt

I don't know, Shulk is pretty blatantly blonde, and X Guy is pretty blatantly black haired.

As for the suits being the same... recall that in Xenoblade, everyone was capable of wearing the same armor. There were few (were there any? I forget) character specific clothes.

The Shulk face looks like an amped-up default face of HUmar from PSO.

I solved the mystery guys, it's a PSO spin-off!

If you filled the Affinity charts you could give every character every armor class (except for the 7th member)

The appearances were still very different, unlike how The Last Story handled the same thing.

the intro videos had default starter suits though not until very late did we have armor changes

my post is not that this is Shulk, I wanted to look at the video to see if he was anywhere else to make sense of why his face is at the end when we see another guy most of the time

Not true. They all had default clothes.

I guess it's just to get us speculating...

It has worked :p

EDIT: Oh no, sorry for the double post!

OMG you know what I love best about X? No more silly repeated animation when these guys start speaking... Except for Ricky dancing and hopefully Sharla blessed types have real bounce :3

we were going to do it hardcore regardless they did not have to tease us so badly...

also guys remember Fiora was a light blonde with pig tails

Any of these starters introduced here can have a radical change by the time this game comes out
if they want him to be Shulk it can be as drastic as that first look of Fiora

Regarding 1.

The landmass may be incomplete due to it still being in development--hence the harsh cutoff from land to what seems like the ocean.

if the landmass continue to go on even wow... I kinda want other location styles too but hey one ultra huge world is welcomed too

This could also be a sandbox area where the developers can test out various things. However, it kind of looks a bit too fleshed out to be just a sandbox area.

Maybe both characters come from the same colony, and they serve similar roles within that colony. That could explain the similar clothing.

I know these might be negligible details that may or may not matter or even remain in the final game, but speculating is all we've got for the next few months.

Wouldn't make much sense in Xeno game. What's supposed to be in there? Huge enemies? Scenic vistas? Seems like a waste of resources to me...

Even if there was no point to it ,it would make the world feel more real and immersive to me.

Skyrim has loading for houses. Red-Dead has seamless transitions, but I don't think everything was open and enterable.
Then the Wii U could also handle it,maybe even more easily.

is xenoblade chronicles totally seamless world like rdr? Ie is it free of separate maps and loading screens.

also is the world completely square or round and interconnected in all directions like say alltp or is it more like a tree or octopus like soul reaver or twilight princess?

Regarding 1: half wrong on one point. You can see an island in the top right of the gif towards the end. Looks a decent distance away too going by the appearance of light scattering/haze. So while it might be ocean, it also appears there could be a number of islands.

No there are areas that you can't reach until the story progresses enough. But once you enter a huge area there's no loading for the interconnected areas. At least none that i remember of.
