Not sure what you hope to get out of it.

Hm, the tone of this game already seems a lot darker than Xenoblade. The addition of Kunihiko Tanaka on character design. The decision to use Hiroyuki Sawano to compose the OST. The X at the end being a red colour. The subdued palette choice for more realism. Could this be Takahashi's next big story?

EDIT: Remember this question from an interview on Xenoblade?

"Though the characters of Xenoblade definitely fit into JRPG stereotypes, the dialogue and overall tone of the story seems more mature and subdued than a lot of games in this genre. Was that something you attempted to do on purpose? Do you want to pursue more mature writing in future projects?"

"Yes, it is something that I did on purpose. I’m very happy to hear that the story gave you the impression that I intended for it to have. I plan on pursuing more mature writing in future projects as well."

Well, Xenogears was kinda dark in nature and Xenosaga too

First noticed in the analysis video that during the first fight scene, there's actually a second fight going on in the background. Cool, but definitely reassures the coming multiplayer aspects.

Yeah, the tone of X sits a little more in their department, I think, added with the ability to fly mechs like in Xenogears, the marvelous gameplay and world building of Xenoblade and the multiplayer aspect of Soma Bringer. Seems like they really are putting all their know-how they've accumulated from Gears to Blade into X.

I'm not sure that would work, because
wasn't Alvis/the machine built in the universe Klaus existed in? Then he used the machine to destroy and recreate the universe. Unless the machine he used was part of that simulation and activated some sort of mechanism to reset the simulator.

Any yeah, all these spoilers have been for the end-game, so you're pretty much screwed on the story if you read them.

I actually made one, but I wasn't sure if anyone would care.

Really frustrates me the radar is preventing me from fully seeing that base, haha.

Also, if they are cranes maybe it's a ship digging for minerals or it's some excavation project... could be anything I suppose.

nope
he just restarted the simulation with new parameters, which means it's still a simulation, just without gods.

hint: Don't read those if you haven't finished the game yet

it wasnt a simulation, it was a science experiment to recreate the birth of a universe

If Sawano's work is half as good as his work on Unicorn, then this game will be amazing based on its soundtrack alone.

I am absolutely now in love with his music and that specific track. 1:06 on that track gets me everytime. He will do good things for X.

Another two which I heard and love is Tears of the Dragoon and Mineva.

Tears of the Dragoon:

Mineva:

whatever it was, alvis has full controll over it and can change stuff if he want to. Alvis beeing the programm that runs the universe, thus pointing towards a simulation. Shulk just told him to reboot everything without sacrificing anyone this time.

holy shit.... thats amazing. Is the show any good?

If you ask the users on /m/, they'll say it's a bunch of Zeon fanwank. An AU in UC clothing.

Honestly, I think it's pretty great. Best Gundam release in nearly twenty years. It is a little bit esoteric, relying on the viewer having an understanding of at least the basics of the main Gundam Universal Century Timeline, but I've shown it to friends who haven't watched those shows and they still thought it was great.

Here are some other great songs from it:

Very good analysis. So it seems like you can play one player w/ AI characters or possibly be joined by other real players. I wonder though, if this is not a MMO how exactly does that work? Are people dropping into your game world like in RE6 with certain scenarios/events?

Yeah, I don't get why people think it's an MMO; it doesn't seem to be. The analysis video didn't mention it, and I don't see any reason to think it. I agree with the guy who said it's like Secret of Mana

The music and art, since Tanaka is back, are the only two things I'm interested in from this game.

Really? I love the music and I adore that Tanaka is back, but the battle system also looks great from what I've seen in the trailer. The way you have sub-weapons, being able to targets different parts of the body and cut of monsters limbs, close-range and long-range attacks, it sounds like a big evolution of Xenoblade's battle system and looks to add so much more depth and strategy, has me psyched, plus the Dolls and the huge, vast area. I just hope there is a great Takahashi story intertwined.

Well excite.

Going by an interview with Monolith just a month ago, X is inspired by Bethesda.

Inaba: “I’d like to make an HD game that will wow the players. I want to show that Japan can still keep up with the USA when it comes next gen technology. Our goal is to become something like the developers of the Fallout series, Bethesda Softworks.”

Sugiura: “I believe that today’s Japanese gaming industry has lost its touch, and we’d like to do something to change that.”

The observation in the GameXplain video that the upper-right corner of the HUD indicates the current in-game time and weather is dead-on. I just reviewed the trailer and in the rain scenes, it has a thunderstorm icon; in the cloudy scenes, it has a cloud icon; and so on. I wonder what role weather will play? I'm just glad it's included -- changing weather makes any game much more dramatic and immersive!

I don't think any game has truly captured weather effects yet though, except maybe the Total War series. I want a game where travelling in the rain really captures how miserable the experience is.

I think that quote has been taken way out of proportion. Monolith Soft aren't just taking cues from Bethesda, they're adding everything they love about Western RPGs but also they're not forgetting they're Japanese aesthetics. If they literally wanted to become Bethesda, they would just develop a game identical to Skyrim. They're doing it their way.

Like Xenoblade, side quest to hunt X specific Monster or for an event.

Being Inspired is not the same thing as copying their games you know.

the satalitte was just changing things about the world using the same process they did to restart the world, because it had the control, giving the people with the monado the powers of a god, they never implied what they did was just a simulation

Just by that statement, it doesn't sound like he's actually trying to imitate Betheshda's gameplay, but that he's using Betheshda as an example for one of the most relevant RPG developers period whose games reach a large audience of people.

I know the game may be at least a year away but god, I hope it has off-TV play, maybe it will because, going by the trailer, all the important UI elements are right there on-screen. :D

This. I think he just named dropped them because he thinks their games are technically impressive - something he would like his studio's games to be as well. That's all I got from it. Not that they're inspired by them by and are taking cues from them to make X.

Premonitions = Simulations predicting state changes in ether, but aren't definitive results.
Monado = Capable of manipulating ether in the present but only after it's unlocked
Shulk's final command = Using the machine/Alvis to change the present world on a massive level. The Monado is just the key at this point.

So yeah, I agree if you're saying the world isn't in a computer

Here's an interview from 2011 about Monolithsoft's Wii U project:

http://xenoverse.xenotensei.com/takahashi/takahashi_monolithsoft_2011.htm

I think this is original but who knows (not me)
http://www.monolithsoft.co.jp/special/interview/vol09/vol09_1.html

Sugiura: We released "Xenoblade" in June last year, and our new projects are now well underway, as we've made known through this column and our employment information page.

We've finally had the chance to announce that one of those new projects is the development of a Wii U game, so please tell us about where this project is headed and what kind of challenges you think it will present.

Takahashi: Yes.

Now that we're working with a HD console, I think that we might be able to include some content we might have had to give up on or water down during the era of SD consoles. I can't really go into details, but when it comes to our plans for this project, there's new challenges due to the hardware specs, and all kinds of things we want to do. If I'm going to be bold enough to try to summarize it in one sentence, it'll have to be "the summation of all the know-how we've accumulated up to now".

For myself, it's all I've learned in the course of my work from the "Xenogears" days until the present, while for Kojima, it's all he's learned from the "Xenosaga" series, the "Baten Kaitos" series, "Disaster" and "Xenoblade". By [reflecting on] the good parts and the bad parts that went into them, we should finally be able to do some things this time that we want to try out.

Actually, we're trying out various things interally too while going forward, but when I look at what we're working at, I feel very good about it.

Sugiura: In the previous column, when we talked to the programmers, we heard about how we'll be able to use things like [more advanced] physics and shaders, and how this will broaden the scope of our presentation. What are your thoughts on that?

Takahashi: It should definitely widen our scope. There used to be some resistance to creating bigger maps, but I feel that has gradually become less and less of a problem.

That gives some insight into what to expect now that we've seen footage. The 'X' logo reflects what they said above. The stroke is like Xenoblade but the shade like Xenogears. I'm guessing X will combine the fluidity and scope of Xenoblade's gameplay and world with a narrative style that's closer to the other Xeno games (which I've never played so I'm going by what others have said about them).

Very good analysis. So it seems like you can play one player w/ AI characters or possibly be joined by other real players. I wonder though, if this is not a MMO how exactly does that work? Are people dropping into your game world like in RE6 with certain scenarios/events?

It'd be something like an ARPG with Co-Op most likely. (Think Diablo II or Borderlands.)

Soma Bringer did something pretty similar in that you ran around with two AI characters. But if you decided to do Multiplayer, you had to set it up from the Main Menu so you could connect using Wireless Play with 1~2 other people (it didn't have Wi-Fi, so you had to depend on local wireless).

But the cool part in that game was that you could advance the story in your game if you wasn't ahead of the leader's story progress.

How exactly will Dolls work if online co-op is a thing?

What would be an issue about it exactly? There could be separate Dolls for everyone or one Doll could hold multiple people.

I know it's a stretch, (and wishful thinking) but with people pointing out the orange/black outfit designs, I wonder if Takahashi & Soraya's proposed "Titus 12" is having any sort of influence on X. For example:

For what I've heard of his music, I'm actually not all that impressed by Sawano compared to what we had in Xenoblade with ACE+ and Shimomura. It seems like he loves to use the heavy choir stuff for dramatic pieces, and generally speaking I can't stand heavy choir stuff for dramatic pieces.
Check this song out. It's from some show called Taiyou no Uta.

OTOH, this is great.

I was going to post this earlier, it does indeed give you the same vibe because it looks just as sci-fi and because of the orange colours. Those characters look great too.

She's an amazing character designer in her own right. I'm dying to see a game fully designed by her.
