Monolithsoft WiiU trailer - X (Takahashi x Tanaka x Sawano, Xenoblade x/multiplayer?)

Are we really going to tiptoe around spoilers in the threads for this game? It would be like going into a thread for the second season of a show and when someone mentions something from the first season, someone goes, "Whoa there. Some people haven't seen the first season. Spoiler all of that."

If you haven't played or finished Xenoblade and you care about spoilers, it's probably not a good idea to watch media from its sequel and go around people talking about the sequel. I mean, just watching the trailer has huge spoilers about what happens to the world.

I didn't even think of that. If this really is a Xenoblade sequel, the absence of the gods (mainly Mechonis) towering over everything would be a big spoiler.

As to your edit, Im roughly 40 hours into Xenoblade and don't see any spoilers for it present in X which is not even officially a sequel.

*not describing what the actual spoiler is*
The spoilers in the trailer are so big that you haven't even gotten there yet.

But anyway, it's not a big deal to me. If that's what you guys want, I'll spoiler stuff in the future. Just seems silly to me.

lol so true.

If you guys are worried about spoilers, then avoid Xenoblade discussions and don't click on links where it's obviously mentioned that they're major scenes from the game. If you haven't played the game and you click on a marked external link then you've just accepted the fact that you're prepared to be spoiled.

So, go finish Xenoblade and then come back to this thread.

We can't say it's a sequel yet though. It looks similair, but very different as well. I think it's been said to be a new IP too, if I'm not mistaken (looking for a source, so don't quote me on this yet).
Bottom line, we don't know anything, so mark the spoilers.

Except we don't even know if this is exactly a sequel. I'm willing to bet that there are plenty of people who haven't played Xenoblade that saw the X trailer. You don't even know that the trailer could be a spoiler unless you beat Xenoblade.

It would be different if this were a confirmed sequel. This could just be a game with similar UI and artstyle. I don't believe that, but who knows. I just think spoiler tags exist for a reason, especially since the thread title says nothing about Xenoblade spoilers.

Post 3035 is the kind of thing I think it's inconsiderate to throw out there unmarked. Obviously I haven't clicked on the youtube links, I don't want to be spoiled, but richisawesome didn't exactly give much opportunity to avoid spoilers. That kind of shit needs to be tagged.

We don't even know if it's a sequel yet, but it's better to be safe. A lot of things in trailers aren't even spoilers unless you point them out. Most people won't even notice. There's barely anything in the X trailer that points to spoilers in Xenoblade.

I was talking about discussion in the thread, not the links. This is not a Xenoblade thread, and definitely not a Xenoblade spoiler thread...

Is it already confirmed--as in there's official news somewhere and not just "feeling"--that this game is a single-player affair with online component? Not a multiplayer-focused game?

Well, for what it's worth, it's said to be a culmination of all of Monolithsoft and Takahashi's know-how and experience, and if I'm correct, a multiplayer-focused game is not part of that experience. It'll most definitely be very big on the story-aspect too, so there's that.

Regarding to spoilers, i agree that text should be in spoiler tags. But when a videolink is provided about said game, and you don't want to be spoiled, simply don't click it. In that case you really have noone to blame but yourself. If you haven't seen a movie, and someone provides a link to a scene from that movie... what do you expect to happen?

Agreed, but what if the video's title is a spoiler?

If you haven't played the game and still intend to, and don't want to be spoiled, you have no business clicking on links about that game to begin with. The links here provided were clearly about content. Of course the actual linktext shouldn't spoil anything either.

But this game probably isn't a direct sequel. Should we run around spoiling previous Final Fantasy games in FF threads? That seems fairly nonsensical.

Spoiler tag spoilers. It's not that hard.
See?

im thinking
after xenoblade they went into space, similar to what arglas (who later became zanza) said when the people of the world would leave their gods behind them and go to other worlds

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xg2ufgZVWL4

I would think that might be saved for potentially a third game. The Technology shown in game isn't that far more advanced than that of Xenoblades, so they haven't reached that level of exploration yet.
The plain still look similar to that of the world of Xenoblade, and even with Shulks wish, at the End of the game, the land masses they were on were still based on the decayed body of the Bionis, with a part of it's head seen floating in the sea.

maybe someone should make a thread where we can discuss X/Xenoblade theories with full spoilers fiesta

Seems like a good idea. Even if they aren't sequels (not sure what I think yet), people who haven't finished Xenoblade are going to be interested in learning about X and the discussion between the two are going to lead to Spoilers.

For me personally, I've finished Xenoblade so it's not a big deal, but I can see where those who haven't finished Xenoblade but still want to discuss the awesomeness that X looks like...

I think I figured out what kind of multiplayer will be included. The single player campaign will be pretty much Xenoblade on steroids, while the multiplayer is some sort of completely separate, open ended "hunting" mode.

Parts of the trailer that show off multiplayer will list everyone as "Player 1, Player 2 and Player 3" on the upper left side. Other parts of the trailer show just one column with either the name "Tester" or Japanese Kanji taking the place of "Player 1". The Kanji must be the name of your character during the campaign. Maybe someone can confirm this.

Now there may also be an option to team up with other online players during your campaign, because one of the final scenes shows the first player represented in Japanese lettering while Player 2 and 3 are represented as "Player 2, Player 3" respectively. This could be a drop in drop out type of system that can be turned off ala RE5-6.

Considering the director there is no way that this game has a shallow story mode , and there is zero chance that this is an MMO. I think Takahashi added multiplayer for replay value, because many people felt that Xenoblade could have benefited greatly from some sort of multiplayer mode, like The Last Story had, considering that the game played a lot like a single player mmo (humungous overworld, combat, side quests).

could you point to where that happens in the trailer? (the kanji part)

I'm not gonna lie. I've played through Xenoblade countless times now, and the thought of multiplayer has crossed my mind many times.

In battles for example, setting up topple and dazes and other such arts would have been fun as hell with a second player online. Having a third online player as Sharla or someone would have been ideal for auras and heals.

It just fits so well.

I don't see why the multi-player has to be much different than Xenoblade's campaign. If you play online then the other players control the character instead of how you have each character set up to auto attack.

Seems fairly easy to me and not a concern.

The faint guitar that plays in the beginning of the X trailer reminds me of the intro to the Mechonis field theme from Xenoblade... It has that mechanical vibe...

watching those videos...man I have to replay Xenoblade, at least Newgame+, but I have to replay it.

Is there any way to move saves from the Wii to the PC? I think I´ll try play it on Dolphin now.

EDIT:great avatar skypunch :)

Yep. Copy your save to an SD card using the Wii system menu. Put that SD card into your computer and hit up the Import Wii Save option on Dolphin's menu bar. Worked fine for me!

I MIGHT be thinking of Export Wii Save though. If I am, then ignore the above. Instead its a simple case of copying the PRIVATE folder from your SD over the equivalent one in Dolphin's system folder.

While I haven't personally done this with my wii, here's how it's explained per another forum:

1 - Install the Save Game Manager in the Homebrew Channel
2 - Do the EXTRACT mode to copy your wii save to SD card.
3 - Your save file is in your SD card in savegames directory.
4 - Open this directory and there, choose the directory from your game (there's no way to know that so, copy one save file at time)
5 - Inside are the .bin files. Just copy these files to your save game directory in Dolphin and HAVE FUN.

So, yeah, you can transfer game saves to Dolphin and vice versa. I'm sure with some google searching you can find the software you need to facilitate this.

Ha, thanks! Love Egil, great character :)

It's not Shulk.

Just as the Fei/Elly/Citan look alike characters in Xenosaga were not actually the characters from Xenogears.

Plus, there is always a "Citan" in Xeno games. Citan/Jin/Dunban.

They have said this is a new IP. It's not Shulk from Xenoblade just as Jin is not Citan.

Its far too early to conclusively state either way.

Lots of evidence to say it IS Shulk and that this is a Xenoblade followup, as I listed above. There's also much evidence to the contrary such as the lookalikes in Xenogears/saga and the comments from Monolithsoft (which could have been misdirection on purpose).

We just don't know for sure yet. I also have a feeling that we'll find out soon though.

I think this scene from Xenoblade really exemplifies what you're saying well.

They didn't go into great depth on any of the characters, but even so, they stood apart from other RPG's. They were memorable on their own, from their actions and words. Xenoblade was really a "once in a generation" kinda game - we can only hope that we'd be so lucky to get another game of the same caliber from Monolith in such a short time span.

I recall Reyn instead of Dunban in that scene. Strange. That was probably the best non-Fiora scene though. I thought XB's story wasn't too great in comparison to what Takahasi has done before(XG)...The characters did have a few great moments though like the above. The world was the most memorable thing from the game.

FUUUUUCK....

SorayaSaga just retweeted my Tweet °O°
I loove her soooo much

So, would it be safe to assume that this is Xenoblade 2, with this evidence?

- Shulk lookalike, could be shulk
- Same battle UI
- Similar looking mechs and environment
- evidence of rifle based auras as well as a driver being used similar to Reyn's.
- the X at the end which looks like the X in Xenoblade rather than Xenogears'.

I think it is.

1. OK.

2. They could just be building off the gameplay in Xenoblade which they liked and was well received, even if it's a new IP.

3. The mechs look more like the mechs in Xenosaga rather than the ones in Xenoblade, which were humanoid and had faces. As for the environment, it seems based off Xenoblade (similar plants/greenery and colony-looking areas) but like the gameplay they could just be building off what they already know how to do. Also, if you beat Xenoblade,
there are still remnants of Bionis and I think Mechonis still scattered around, but they're absent from what we've seen of this trailer. Could be things really changed in the world after a really long time, or this is an entirely different world which is possible as more galaxies were formed at the end of the game. But right now we don't know enough.

4. The auras could just be a gameplay component they brought back. The pile driver is like Reyn's, but the pile driver was a similar to the pile driver Shion had. The one Shion had could shoot missiles and stuff though.

5. Ehhh I don't really think this is much evidence lol. They're just stylized X's. There isn't something unique enough between Xenoblade and X's that you can point out.

I think the biggest piece of evidence so far is the Shulk/Shulk lookalike face at the end. Everything else seems a bit too general, especially the gameplay stuff.

So, what's the consensus here on the red X at the end of the trailer?

1. It's the title. X.

2. It is related to Xenoblade, and fits with the Xenoblade typeface. Xenoblade 2.

3. None of the above. Title will be Xeno????. Unrelated to blade. Spiritual sequel.

4. Other possibility (you decide)

Lets take bets and see who's right when its revealed! I say its gonna be option 2.
