Its come up before but I think the team is pessimistic about getting the required funding to be able to do anything significant. A single character in the game sets them back $200,000 and I think getting that point across to people potentially willing to donate in a Kickstarter-like setting is difficult to do. As a comparison the Kickstarter fighting game Kaiju Combat was only just able to scrape 112k after an entire month and that's for funding of the entire game itself versus expanded content. If they wanted to do something like a large expansion to the game itself (or even funding a sequel) they'd easily require something like 10x's that amount I would think.

A ton of people are fueling Skullgirls on Tumblr though I think it's safe to say a lot of people there aren't invested in the actual game so much as the characters. I think it's safe to say it still has a fighting chance, though I'm in the camp who would kind of prefer Melee because of aforementioned bigger player base.
Says here that the donation drive ends January 29.

What version of the game were you playing? A beta? I played Vanilla Skullgirls and it was a blip on the radar compared to the mess that was vanilla SFxT and vanilla MvC3. That shit was mild compared to those two.
