Speaking of Alan Moore, I recently finished reading this:

I want to say it was surprisingly good, but when it's Alan Moore it should never be a surprise that it was good. But I really liked it, and it made me sad that this is yet another Moore project which will never be finished. I really would like to have seen what the rest of Halo's life held for her, almost to the point of dreaming of fanfiction continuations.

He's alright. Has written some amazing stories, Morrison is to me what Moore is to most people. Plus Morrison actually has love for comics which comes through in his writing. Moore is too "waaaah I hate everything."

I would love to talk about comics, but I don't really read superhero comics so I can't contribute to much of the conversation.

I really like Bone, Sandman, ElfQuest, Scott Pilgrim, Hark! A Vagrant, Girl Genius, Gunnerkrigg Court, and anything by Hagio Moto. Plus a bunch of one shot stuff I don't want to think of right now.

I've been going to the library recently and reading anything that catches my attention, but nothing has really struck a chord with me yet.

I went to this comic shop in town yesterday and they had hardback colour Scott Pilgrim. I want them.

Watchmen, for example, is the most pessimistic and vile critique on superheros ever written. It also happens to be one of the most creative and compelling single stories ever.

Morrison and Quietly's Flex Mentallo is a similar critique on superheros and their stories. Instead of trying to make you feel disgust toward your heroes, there is hope and endearing love toward them. It's a book written by a guy who really loves comics and let's it shine through. Personally, I find that attitude much more enjoyable. I respect Moore but he isn't the end all be all for me.

I watched the movie and read the comics. I don't get the hype for Scott Pilgrim. Hype actually made me like it less. The game was fun though.

That's a very large question haha

I'd say to get into current Batman you only need to pick up the nu52 Batman by Scott Snyder. A little in the past, but still relevant, is Grant Morrison's Batman which is ridiculous and crazy stuff.

If you want classic stuff then Long Halloween, Dark Knight Returns, Dark Victory etc.

I keep expecting to finally read the Alan Moore comic that falls flat, and never finding it. It doesn't matter which era of his writing it's from either. He seems to have been born a genius writer.

To change the subject, I think I want a job in admissions at a college. Because fuck these people don't do shit. I've spent the whole day calling to ask a question that would literally take them five minutes to answer. Five minutes. Five. They already screwed up my application once by loosing my transcripts and I couldn't get in for this semester because of it even though they said I would have been accepted otherwise. I'm afraid it's gonna happen again. :/

Ugh. I am going through a remarkably similar process at the moment and it is fucking excruciating. Simple matters become needlessly complicated, days become weeks and my urge to just take up a job overseas and forget the course altogether rises.

Straight up losing your transcripts though? Damn, that is some next-level asshattery :U

What is it that you find appealing about Batman?

If you want an origin story, there's Batman: Year One by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. The Dark Knight took story cues from Alan Moore's The Killing Joke and Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's The Long Halloween. The Killing Joke is a short standalone story that you can read out of continuity and obviously focuses on the Joker. The Long Halloween takes place early on in Batman's career and kind of showcases all of the villains but in particular serves as an origin story for Two-Face. It also has a sequel called Dark Victory that introduces Robin/Dick Grayson.

The Dark Knight Rises takes a few story ideas from my favorite Batman arc called No Man's Land. An earthquake hits Gotham City and it's abandoned and closed off, much like in the movie. Instead of focusing (at least at first) on Bruce, it follows a lot of the supporting cast. A lot of people fawn over Batman's rogue gallery, but I find his supporting cast to be just as strong even though people tend to not pay attention to it. All the Bane stuff can be found in Knightfall.

If you liked Catwoman in the last movie, Darwyn Cooke and Ed Brubaker did a run that's collected here.

I also have to recommend Gotham Central. Batman isn't a main character and it focuses on the police force instead, but it's probably the best Batman-related book.

I feel your pain man. I get that these schools probably have an insane number of people to deal with but come on... hope it works out for you and your school gets their shit in order!
