It would have been such an epic fail, that Superman IP would have been damaged beyond repair for a century!

"I adore the Donner films. Absolutely adore them. It just struck me that there was an idealist quality to them that may or may not work with today's audience. It just struck me that if Superman really existed in the world, first of all this story would be a story about first contact."

"He's an alien. You can easily imagine a scenario in which we'd be doing a film like E.T., as opposed to him running around in tights. If the world found out he existed, it would be the biggest thing that ever happened in human history," he added when talk turned to how exactly you bring a character like Superman into a world similar to our own. "It falls into that idea of trying to humanise the inhuman. He's made out of steel, he's not made out of flesh, metaphorically speaking. We are portraying him as a man, yet he's not a man." So, Goyer clearly has a clear vision when it comes to this realistic and grounded take on arguably the world's most iconic superhero.

However, just how challenging is it to take a near indestructible superhero who can fly and fire blasts of heat from his eyes, and make him both relatable and a believable addition to our world? "It is obviously a much longer process with a character like Superman. It is much easier to do a realistic take on Batman. You know nothing can hurt Superman, presumably other than Kryptonite. The challenge was simply: can we figure out a way to make those elements work, quote unquote, in the real world? It's very much a story of a man with two fathers." How do you feel about this interpretation of Superman? The suit looks like shite, I don't care what any of you here say. I can't believe the amount of hate the Singer design got whilst this, in contrast, gets the equivalent of a free pass such is the extent of dismay. Every time I see it I think of Thor's costume.

Couple quotes from Goyer in the article:

Interesting bits include how MOS came about during when Nolan and Goyer were figuring out the script for The Dark Knight Rises, they hit a writer's block and both took a week off to figure it out but Goyer ended up reading some old Superman comics and started coming up with ideas. When they returned to Dark Knight Nolan asked if he came up with something where Goyer ended up pitching his idea for a Superman movie for a modern audience and Nolan liked it so much he instantly called up Jeff Robinov at Warner Bros. to listen to Goyer's pitch, a week later it was greenlit with a budget estimated at $225 million.

Snyder originally turned Superman down until Chris Nolan invited him to lunch where the Nolans discussed their idea and take for a Superman movie with the Snyders who left impressed but hadn't signed on. The next thing they knew a black car was parked in their driveway delivering the script and waiting from the finish it so it could be returned to Nolan immediately, Zack signed off after reading it.

No wire work for Cavill for the flying scenes as they're all CG and Snyder seems to have favored more use of handheld cams. Goyer also likes to mention that there's more action in MOS than all 3 Dark Knight movies combined.

Saddest thing of all is Cage being a huge Superman fan and knowing he doesn't fit the role at all, but still was ready to act out as his favorite character and shit up the characters legacy far worse than anything else ever could.

You honestly don't see a difference in how hilariously over sculpted the Cage suit is? The MoS suit musculature looks cut as fuck, but natural definition. It's what it should look like.

Article does make mention that if Cavill had to undergo any wire work it was only for "body positioning" which he mentions is still uncomfortable.

Cain constantly crossing his arms in an attempt to push out his biceps always looked laughable to me, too. It's not all about the physique, but Cain looked so hammy in that show as Superman... but that Superboy show is pretty god awful.
