Funny thing is that The Pokemon Company actually does a good job at promoting official tournaments and prizes for their main series, and their official rulesets are far more sensible and streamlined than the fan community's at this point. They make a lot of little tweaks to improve various competitive aspects from game to game, too. And that's for a dice-roll of a game that's probably inherently less suited for serious competition than Smash.
