EVO 2K13 Player's Choice: Donate money to breast cancer and get your favorite game in

There's no chance that the EVO guys fuck this up again right? Last time was just... never forgave them for that shit.

It's obvious the Smash community wants to get back together with the FGC, the question now is whether or not the FGC wants to reach out to them and take them seriously. Because Smash is guaranteed to bring a ton of hype to EVO, but the logistic issues won't be easy to solve. If the EVO guys don't take the Smash community seriously and treat them like they treated SFxT last year things are going to get ugly soon.

You're missing out on life.

I think the only game in my entire life that I didn't play S-tier is.... SF4, and Tekken 5 DR (i didn't count smash cause at the time he was S-tier).

3S = check
CVS2 = check
MVC2 = check
MVC3 = check
UMVC3 = check
ST = check
SG = Check
Smash Melee = A-tier.. close enough well Marth did rule for a period of time.
Tekken 4 = check
Tekken 5 = check
Tekken DR = I fucked up here.
SF4 = semi-check? Balrog was at one point considered top in Super.
SFxT 2012 = check.

ST: Fei (?)
3S: Makoto (Right under Chun-Yun-Ken)
AE: Makoto/Viper/Fei (oh wait, this is an S tier guy, nvm)/Gouken
Vampire Saviour: Hsien-Ko/Q-Bee (High A)
(U)MvC3: Viper/Dante/Strider (busted as hell)
Smash 64: Luigi, Falcon, Samus
Melee: Marth, Ganondorf, Dr. Mario, Peach
Brawl: Marth, Pit, Lucas, Peach, Luigi, Mario
Skullgirls: (looking at/unsure of tiers) Ms. Fortune/Valentine

...

OK, I lied I forgot that I played Yoshi in Mario Kart 64. Kappa

Eh I would after what went down on Bum's stream.

Weekly tournaments are not equal to casual meets. Hell he even avoids playing casuals when he goes. Like Bum asked him and the dude just straight up ignored him.

I could go on but what is the point the dude is doing a fine job of showing off why he is a dick head on twitter as I type this.
Bullshit, homeboy does casual meets at RadioStar(GameOver Channel) on 34th from time to time. Hell, he even was hanging out with some of us VF cats in Atlanta when FS was shown there. Dude is humble.

Yeah logistically it's going to be a nightmare to host Smash. No matter how low-lag Evo monitors are, they're not CRTs and Smash players won't play on them. I guess there's not really a problem though since they're committed to getting GCs anyway which forces them to use (most likely) a composite port. In any case, all those CRTs will take up space, but then all the other setups will ALSO take up space. And then you have the vendors. And then you have the side tournies. Last year's Evo already was very pressed for space. Didn't they say that Caesar's was the biggest ballroom on the strip? And then they chose another casino on the strip, thus implying that the ballroom will be smaller? Just gonna be a logistical nightmare unless certain populations are segregated which probably isn't the best thing to do if you're trying to foster acceptance between the communities. Oh and it might make the vendors frustrated as well since they get less exposure.

I'm curious to see how all this turns out.

If the drive was ONLY for cancer research or ONLY to get your game in Evo, it wouldn't have made nearly as much. Really a great idea and I don't get why people have any negative feelings towards the entire thing.

The only thing that left a bad taste in my mouth were the people threatening to pull their donations if their choice didn't win.

Amazing work, Melee. Last minute spirit bomb was nuts. Enjoy your time on the Evo main stage, because you deserve it.

Will definitely be looking forward to see you guys there, and consider giving the SG side tournament a shot when you get there. :)

Well I'd assume they'd need to go and make sure all that was donated were legit donations. Who's #8 is still very in the air.

Unless some real drama kicks off or somebody screams bad touch I highly doubt it.

We have an expert here about conspiracy issue, he probably knows what's up.

Congrats to Melee and SG for fighting till the end. Crazy amount of money was raised, EVO's gonna be big.

Yeah, this entire time all I've been able to think about is what an insane logistical nightmare Smash is going to be; they're going to require utterly separate setups than every other thing there. No fucking clue how they're going to pull this off space-wise.

It's also not a stretch in the slightest to suggest that the donation cause is secondary to getting the game of choice into Evo.

This is definitely true for me atleast. But if the money wasn't going to charity I never would've put money in the first place. If they EVO organizers said donate to us money and whoever spends the most gets the 8th spot I wouldn't have bothered and I would say the overall earnings would be a lot lower and there would be negative backlash over a money grab from most people.

I would say the charity factor acted as a way of pushing people over the tipping point in parting with their money. Once the front runners were identified people interested in that certain game but didn't donate previously had further incentive to give it a shot.

Caesar's ballroom is smaller than Rio's. This year's ballroom is supposed to be 85000 square feet, more than twice of Caesar's.

Edit: ok Caesar's is 50000 square feet, so Paris's ballroom is less than twice. But it's still a huge upgrade.

Wait what? Paris' ballroom is bigger than Caesar's? That doesn't even make a lick of sense. Paris is the mid tier of Caesar's/Harrah's casinos.

Read it yourself, Paris's ballroom is bigger because that hotel has less ballrooms.

Or to be more exact it has a gigantic ballroom that can be split into 9 ballrooms.

MK is going back to the bathroom.

Everyone wants to be part of that big esports family, it's only natural.

Which is pretty strange considering their own events rival the FGC's for the most part and they don't really need the rest of it for anything, really.

They have like 2 or 3 events that are about as "big" as your run of the mill FGC major. They don't have anything even in the same universe as Evo.

Yeah. There's usually a big tourney at the beginning of the year (Apex), then one in the middle of the year (Genesis) and then one at the end of the year (Kings of Cali/Revival of Melee). And usually the one at the end of the year isn't on par with the other 2 because they're on the opposite coast.

Honestly I really hope Skullgirls gets some sort of consolation prize...or something. They donated far too much and gave too many great incentives to be left empty handed.

Why does the WWE have so many great gifs?

Maybe it's late for a reaction pic, but I don't care:

Anyway, great work everyone!
I would have liked to see DoA5 fare better, but keeping an eye on it did give some perspective on how SG and ST evolved when they were still dealing with lower amounts, which I guess made things a bit more interesting.

I think I'll probably cave in and finally buy SG out of respect for these recent initiatives by the game's team - it's a bit too close to Capcom's big hitters for my taste, but what I've seen cannot be easily ignored. (well, there's a very faint hope that Squiggly has an SNK nod or two, which would be nice, but it looks like she's more of a Zato1/Eddie thing...).

I hope Skullgirls gets a good competitive revival because of this, it deserves it for sure. I don't think anyone plays it in my city but I'll try to get into it. I'm really looking forward to Squiggly!!

Glad Melee got in, now there's a small chance of Nintendo taking notice that people enjoy competitive Smash Bros. and might encourage Sakurai to implement some competitive aspects in the next Smash Bros. There's a 0.01% chance of that happening but it's better than nothing!

It's a better chance that Namco and Harada will take notice and hopefully bring word to the team!

I'm sure a bunch of sites would pick up the story if MrWizard or one of the Cannon Brothers wrote up a press release and sent it off to GamesPress.

But maybe after the dust settles.

Skullgirls is Marvel 2/Arcsys influence. No SNK influence at all that I saw in the game.
In a way though, they have a similar soul as old SNK, just in a different direction.

Looking forward to Melee. Too bad Armada retired. Really wanted to see him and Hungrybox go at it again.

SG really deserves to get in though. For a game that sold 100k, getting over $70k in donations is an amazing ratio.

Best idea may be to try and bang out Smash Friday, then get rid of the setups for Saturday, or wait until Sunday and bang it out during GF's when you won't need many setups.

Armada retired after Apex? Damn.

Well, hopefully I'll get to hear the crowd chant GAAAANONDOOOOOORF at some point.

There's a little bit of CvS in there with the ratio system, which isn't quite there, and I think one of Ms. Fortune's new palette's makes her look like Mary.

The Persona leading the animation team is the same guy who released a few KoF (and other games) combo videos, right?...

LOL I knew salt was coming at the end of this, but I should've known some of it would come from Chris "Salty" G of all people. Stay salty and talking nonsense son.

Someone should make a new thread when the official results and decision are in.

Still boggles my mind with people thinking just some of the money will go to breast cancer research. Like, seriously?

Still, Shoutouts to all the games, all the communities and everyone who donated. I really wanna see the final tallies.

Don't feel like looking through SRK, twitter is much easier.

AND I was hoping for some full crazy breakdown shit. Second one is bad but could be worse

No, two different people. The other Persona lives in Australia.

Say what you will, but the Skullgirls fan base is rabid, and I believe largely in a good way.

I'm not sure what Chris G said is really all that bad. I just think he didn't articulate himself very well and left a lot open to misinterpretation.

I think in general, ChrisG isn't that much of jerk, but he's terrible at presenting his message in a clear way and comes off as a dick as result.

This was a crazy ride. Cool that Melee won, and I'm eager even more eager to see how EVO plays out this year.

It'd be cool if they gave the promised My Little Pony stage exhibition to Skullgirls for their efforts. I'm actually considering picking up Skullgirls now thanks to all of this!

What's worse is how he responded to every piece of criticism with juvenile insults and personal attacks.

I mean yeah what he's saying isn't wrong.(Like really I haven't seen this many people talk about Skullgirls since a few weeks before it launched. and I highly doubt this interest level will sustain itself through Evo and translate into tournament entrants)

but I mean there's really no negative to the result of any of this. So I have no idea why you'd even criticize something like this. He's really only asking for it by speaking up against something like a successful charity fundraiser for no real reason.

Despite dismissing comments telling him as much as being "haters", that's really all he's being by making a statement like that.

Skullgirls had their panel/exhibition tournament last year

Can someone post the final tallies? It's not in the OP and I couldn't find anything over the past few pages, thanks!
