Iwata implies he may resign over poor business performance

Chasing the wii audience worked, as it propelled the wii to heights that were unimaginable following the n64 and GameCube.

I don't care if Nintendo, MS, and Sony chase that fickle crowd, they just need balance to keep the people that do buy games happy on their console. Nintendo's mass audience wii games were fine for what they were, certainly better than some kinect bullshit, but they also put out a new donkey kong country, a new Zelda, two 3d Mario games, and a bunch of niche stuff for the core gamers.

It "worked", but the Wii audience only bought the system to play a very few selective titles like Wii Sports and Wii Fit, but anything else.

It's not an audience you should rely or treat as a primary above the core audience which Nintendo built among different gaming generations.

Yes but they didn't give us what we wanted.

No new BIG AAA games.

An Awful Zelda.

No Fzero

No 1080

No Metroid

No Wave Race

No Yoshi

Nintendo does what they want.

They seem to love balloon fight again with Nintendoland and it being the game selected to launch the WiiU VC lineup. Maybe we'll get a AAA Balloon Fight that will make you forget about all of those games.

It would be great to see wave race or fzero again, but maybe we see them again. Nintendo put out a sequel to Sin and Punishment this gen, a japanese only cult classic from the n64 that most people never heard of. They didn't do that for the wii sports audience. It's a critically acclaimed game that's now like $10 on amazon. core games!

Iwata offers apologies but no solutions.

They need to put me in charge. I'd sort out Nintendo.

1. Phase out 3DS
2. Introduce new GameBoy. Single Screen. No gimmicks. Dual Analog 4 face buttons and 4 shoulder buttons. No touch screen bullshit. Focus on 2D games.
3. USB addon for WiiU adding extra horsepower. Bundle new Starfox game with it.
4. Sack Cena Miyamoto to set an example. Work hard and make good games and you keep your job. Release shit and fuck up other peoples games and YOU get fucked up.
5. Reopen Love Hotels.

I hate to break this to you and you may not like it, but not many people actually care about those series at all.

I love them, but they're hardly system sellers.

You should write a book about how to lose money.

I wouldn't call a few million no-one. I'm willing to bet Wii Music outsold both 1080 and Wave Race.

BTW, I Haven't watched RAW in a while, has the Mad Ox gotten signed yet?

He was last seen getting jumped in a dark corridor by The Sheid after hassling Paul Hayman :-(

There's a lot of people who actually care.

While I agree, I'm not sure that F-Zero would be the one game that sets the WiiU sales chart on fire.

However, a return to ALL of those franchises would definately make the console more appealing.

I'd definately play a new Wave Race. It's weird that Nintendo abandoned that one.

Still not quite Wario64 quality, but this made me laugh. Well done :D

I think Brera has raised a lot of valid and interesting points. The immense popularity of the Wii... was kind of a fad. I got the system Day One, still have it and love it, but c'mon, let's be real here: millions of people bought it as an icebreaker novelty and didn't exactly fuel game sales after the few Wii-branded titles, if they ever moved beyond Wii Sports in the first place. I don't hear people talking about Wii anymore in the real world. And I've heard -no one- talking about the WiiU. That's part terrible communication on Nintendo's part, failing to build buzz, but it's also partly indicative of flash-in-the-pan success cooling down. That's why Nintendo is more aggressively courting the traditional gamer with promises (earlier than ever) of core goodness to come. They need us to be more than just brand ambassadors; they need us as customers, period.

Really? Fuck that, dude should at least be part of the Shield. But then again, no one should hassle the Hayman, the fuck does he think he is?

I'm sure he'll be back!

Vince played a tape of Hayman admitting to paying off Maddox and The Shield to beat up Ryback and just as he was about to get fired, Brock Lesner turned up and F5'd Vince...

As much as I like the first two, it makes me sad that it's pretty much never going to happen. Nintendo seems to have hard-on for dual-screen bullshit.

Iwata killed the Gameboy and I will never forgive nor forget.

Clearly a Miyamoto/Iwata conspiracy against the legacy of Nintendo's greatest employee.

Wrong

Also how many10 million plus sellers are there on other platforms anyways?

I'd rather play it for free on my iPhone then pay £30 for it on a DS/3DS...

its 30 dollars now? i remember getting it for 15 or something new

also i dont recall it being free on iPhone but okay man

NOT that any of this has anything to do with my point to begin with

This is wrong and i cant believe people are believing this? How the hell is 9 10 million plus games bad in terms of sales? 360 has 3 of those.

Wii had a very bad 2011 and 2012 that was definately a big mistake but it had great sales from 2006 to 2010. You cant just say 4 years are a fad.

Nintendo definately needs to recapture the non gaming populaton and so far they fell flat. But that doesnt mean that they cant do it in the future

I really like Iwata so I hope he doesn't resign. I also like the Wii U. I do plan on getting the PS4 and next Xbox but I still fully intend to support Wii U as it's finally starting to get some good game announcements that interest me personally.

Wii Play may have 30 million sales but thats like saying 30 million sales of Coke are healthy.

It's all dead calories man. Do you see?

Yes but they didn't give us what we wanted.

No new BIG AAA games.

An Awful Zelda. - we'll see. its their tentpole but they can't seem to fix it.

No Fzero - slain by shitty sales

No 1080 - not sure about this but the GC version wasn't good

No Metroid - franchise slain by nintendo fanboys who didn't buy the game. This caught them by surprise.

No Wave Race - yup

No Yoshi - there is one coming ...

I agree with your post for the most parts.

Since skyward sword, they have had game drought on the wii and they don't use the time to make lots of games for wiiU? or try to get 2nd parties to make lots of games? TBD TBD drought right for 2-3 months after console launch...

and before everyone says nintendo games take time to perfect; they're doing a lot of rehashes and even then, sometimes they're not great games when they come out.

You are what's wrong with the industry.

You defend the dude but refuse to buy his console. Even I own a WiiU. Get out of this thread man!

I root for Nintendo but I haven't really liked any of their software in years, hardware in decades.

I hated the DS and touchscreen gaming in general, really I think the Micro was their last compelling product. It just played games (and fantastic games at that).
