Iwata implies he may resign over poor business performance

dude...it's well publicised that Miyamoto and his clique which includes Iwata absolutely detested Rare cos they were like tech wizards and every one loved them. Miyamoto was livid when he was told that Yoshis Island was shit compared to DKC...understandably cos YI is fucking awesome and DKC is dogshit.

Miyamoto never forgot and when he saw Dino Planet he decided to Cena the game and Rare as well because he knew he was over the hill and Mario Sunshine was going to be shit (which it was) and he couldnt afford to be shown up by Rare so he insisted they turn it into Starfox adventures. The rest history and Rare now make shovelware....ironically just like Miyamoto!

Comparing rare at its current stage and nintendo is just insulting

He may know the Internet exists and can transmit propaganda, but his inability to use it in a useful way for video games and even attempt to feature match Sony and Microsoft is embarrassing. Gimmicks like Miiverse don't make up for the ineptitude in regards to Nintendo's online for playing games.

Did you even ever use Miiverse? I think a similar feature should be in all next gen consoles, it's very addictive and games that don't support it already stick out like a sore thumb to me.

After the DS and the Wii, I would have thought that Iwata would have been a lock for his job going into the future. Even given the WiiU's slow start, I would think that the 3DS picking up momentum in Japan would be more than enough to provide some job security.

I was wondering how the heck this thread was so long and then I saw that it was Brera's amazingly terrible posts. Seriously people, you should know better-just put him on ignore.

SNES Starfox sold 3 million.

N64 Starfox sold 4 million....

You're comparing old games to Pikmin which is a relatively new IP by Nintendo...

We gave you numbers comparing the Starfox and F-Zero games on the gamecube, compared to the brand new Pikmin IP on the same system, WHICH SOLD BETTER THAN BOTH.

I haven't played a single 3DS game that's had meaningful touch screen usage. And I'm sure somebody can name one, but the fact is it's far, far less of a priority for devs now than the DS' touch screen was. If the second screen was gone from the 3DS few people would miss it.

E: I guess Kid Icarus, but given how awful that game is because there's no second stick I wouldn't use that as a reason to praise a touch screen.

fuck that noise son. I like having my maps and other shit on the bottom screen - it's so simple and it may come off as "lazy" to you but iunno, I can appreciate the simpleness of it. And if a game can be played touch only then all the more better for me.

wait, people still think dual analogs would work with KIU? I thought we were over this phase :P

Kid Icarus? You may hate how it used it, but the way it used it was most definitely meaningful.

sorry, didn't see your edit :)but I definitely disagree with your sentiment. That game couldn't have possibly been as fast paced or frenetic without stylus aiming. Wiimote may have come close

Well what do you define as meaningful? I think visual novels use the touch screen well.

I define meaningful as something that makes the system significantly more appealing. I bought the DS for the touch screen. I was sold day 1. It was new, it was fun. I played the mini games on Mario 64 DS non stop. But for the follow up system, very few games are taking advantage of the touch screen due to the inferiority of the display compared to the top screen, and the novelty of the interface has faded. The 3DS needed, in my opinion, something that makes the games more fun or interesting, and 3D wasn't it. 3DS is a decent system but it's just such a boring design that I think Iwata should be questioned for being so complacent.

Similar features are indeed showing up, at least for PS4. The "Share" button that gets mentioned for PS4 (here's what came up when I googled "neogaf ps4 share") lets you share pictures and videos of recent action in gaming. Not sure if there's going to be a centralized hub which has easy access to shared content.

You actually gave us numbers for N64 F-Zero, but left out N64 Star Fox.

and then the series fell off and died. I'm hoping that Retro's new game is Star Fox though because I think it can be revived.

Starfox adventures sold nearly 2 million. 2x More than both Pikmin.

Command...a big steaming pile of crap sold more than Pikmin!

Kid Icarus literally hurts me to play. I think the game itself is pretty fun, but I just can't play it for extended periods. A version that uses the Wiimote or, yes, duel sticks would be vastly superior.

Not trying to move goalposts or something, but the mini-games on Mario 64 isn't a good example of using the touchscreen well. It isn't really part of the main game.

Come the fuck on man, really?

Really?

The point I'm trying to make is I bought a DS day 1 and played those shitty little mini games because I hadn't experienced anything like that before. Now every phone in the world can do it, but at the time that feature was interesting and opened up new gameplay styles. But that simply isn't happening anymore on 3DS because the touch screen was an after thought that's there just because.

Oh man, why did you post numbers from there...

Oh you meant for the first time, yea I understand what you mean by that. I was also hooked on the same mini-games on NSMB. However, I don't think the touchscreen is an afterthought, it is used more as a second screen, the touch functionality isn't being used, but the second screen has been useful for many 3DS games.

Explain your point, The Miz.

The point is, just because YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING, doesn't make it a gimmick. Miiverse is a freaking social media network for your video game console that's going to be integrated into phones and tablets. That's not a "gimmick" and if Sony or Microsoft came up with something like this, this would be "A huge step forward".

Miiverse is a well thought out, clever, and massive undertaking that Nintendo deserves credit for. Posting in-game screenshots, posting YouTube videos, having custom communities, and having developers be able to speak directly to their consumers via the Wii U is nothing short of brilliant. Ask devs like Frozenbyte if Miiverse is "a gimmick".

Honestly I think Nuts and bolts is better than anything Nintendo has made since the GC so I'm not sure it's that unfair of a comparison software wise.
Okay.... Even if that was true, 1 good title > Man many good titles? Yea, sure. Rare aren't even a shell of their former self anymore.

How is an OS integrated social system that connects gamers and communities a gimmick?

Because it's just the kind of wacky shit Nintendo comes up with instead of addressing basic features people need. It's completely inferior to XBL circa 2006 when it comes to things like messaging your friends, inviting your friends to a game, voice chatting, etc etc.

Is it a nice feature? Maybe, if you're in to that kind of thing. Is it up to par with XBL and PSN? Nope.

None of this makes playing my video games better.

Who is Frozenbyte? Is he a Nintendo fan on GAF?

What the hell does the existence of Miiverse have to do with other things not being up to date, and how does any of this devalue what it brings to the table?

XBL and PSN dont offer a Miiverse type experience. Seems like you're complaining about Nintendo Network and dragging Miiverse into it for whatever reason.

Im guessing Frozenbyte is one of those small companies that can't hack it elsewhere so specialise is brainwashing Nintendroids into thinking they are the elite...

Devs that made Trine 2.

You fail.

I think it's time for you to take a nap...or have a sandwich or something.

Come on man, he may have not known what Frozenbyte is.

Oh man, please stop.

Fucking hell this is some bad shit right here, joke poster or not.

Just cos you disagree doesn't mean I'm a troll.

You don't see me attacking you when you're marking out over John Cena!

I say Iwata hasn't done enough to improve the experience of playing online games with Wii U, and that Miiverse is just a gimmick.

You tell me the existence of Miiverse has nothing to do with other things not being up to date.

Ok?

I don't care about Miiverse. If you like it, sweet. But it isn't giving me the the online gaming basic features I expect in 2013.

Maybe, but when we tell you Pikmin sold better than F-zero and starfox you cited ******** as a source, which is about as credible as nutty conspiracy theorist who believe 2012 was the end of the world.

god the whole topic lost its meaning.

Iwata will be fine, Nintendo will do better.
