I always forget that they are related. I feel as sisters they really don't look alike. American Horror Story was the first time I realized that they were.

Only one episode down and I love it! Best new show since Mad Men. Everything about it just sits so well with me. I'm not sure how I will proceed from this point onwards. I kinda want to marathon the whole show right away but on the other hand I feel like watching episode or two per day.

Just finished episode 4 really starting to like it. After the first episode I kind of hated spaceys wife, but she's growing more on me as a character

What a flipping fantastic show. It's like watching a 12 hour movie.

And this show has the highest production values (is that the right word?) I've ever seen. The sets are so well produced.

who's the actress playing Russo's girlfriend? She seems familiar but can't figure out where I have seen her before, it's bugging me.

Same here. I sort of want to marathon it (I could probably knock out at least 5 more today), but I sort of want to go the 2 episodes a day route. I have 11 episodes to go, so maybe I'll watch 3 today and then 2 every day after until it's finished.

Finished episode 2.

Everyone still feels like a pretentious douchebag so its hard for me to care for any of the characters. However, the overall story of revenge I am really hooked to.

I love that they don't use flashbacks and I hope they never do.

I was thinking the same thing. I think it helps that viewers don't have to be reminded of "last weeks episode" because of all the episodes being released at once. Great move it was on not doing that. Besides it's incredibly distracting.

Just finished up the season, show keeps getting better as it goes along all the way till the end. Unless there is some kind of conspiracy, I don't see how there aren't multiple emmy noms coming it's way.
spoilers for everything
God damn, they said there would be no cliffhangers between episodes but this is one hell of a cliffhanger to end the season. I think it's pretty much impossible to contain the story at this point so I expect he doesn't end up getting the VP nod in the end but probably not enough of a story to get him out of congress.

Really the only thing I didn't end up liking was how deep they got with the conspiracy. Way too many loose ends and things that could go wrong that Frank should have known better. Especially sloppy of him for things to go down with Zoey the way they did.

I will say that although I found Frank's involvement to seem a bit unrealistic, the way it was handled by the show was perfect. Characters started catching on to stuff the way you would expect them to.

Worst part about having the entire season available at once is that it extends the time we have to wait to get the next season.

Just finished Chapter 1. What a way for Netflix to completely hit it out of the park. Everything about this show is so wonderfully masterful... And I love Underwood talking to the audience.

I love it when Spacey gives a little look and wink to the audience.

The thing is (whole season spoilers):
they never really did a whole lot of illegal stuff. Besides Russo's death, it was all backroom politicking. Even stuff like throwing the brick to get the Education bill through and putting pressure on the police commissioner was probably legal (if highly unethical). The story might get out, but where's the proof? It's all circumstantial. They might print it, but I'd be surprised if Frank didn't still get handed the VP spot. the President, Linda, and Raymond all know what a bad son of a bitch Frank is, to a certain extent (Raymond implies he knows that Frank orchestrated the Secretary of State stuff) and that's exactly why they want him this time. They recognized their failure the first time around and now they need someone who can get their hands dirty.

Remember: the President approached him (Linda claims she never had a chance to put Frank's name in the hat, though obviously she could be lying), not the other way around, so maybe he's not quite as stupid/naive as Frank and the series have led us to believe.

Man, this show.....is not good and it only gets weirder and weirder. I stopped at ep 7 last night and holy fuck, the whopper of creeper/lameness/wtf/NO/WEIRD it ended on is completely inexcusable and def more than a stone's throw away from the show you expect it to be from the pilot.
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY EW EW EW URGGHGHHH
damn near had a brain aneurysm at 4 am, I thought I was dreaming the awfulness.

All this time in I still have no idea what this is ABOUT in a vibe/feeling/theme kind of way. Most of the characters are barely there, especially the DC people who all sound THE SAME, no shades aside from
MARTYYYYY
. And the President is probably the worst I've seen in fiction? This guy has NO PRESENCE, EVER. He's The President! And the Vice President omfg,
STEALING A PEN WHAT IS THIS SHOW
.

The writing is just not there for this show and once Fincher leaves, the show struggles to find a visual tone that was barely there to begin with and then at episode 5 shit just starts getting WEIRD when characters like
RIBS GUY
stand out more than all of the characters in Washington. I have no sense of goals for these characters, no feeling of arc. The show could go anywhere, it's got no shape to it. I'm just baffled it. It feels like it was written by people with no experience in writing episodic tv arcs. The casting is probably the most distinctly bad I've seen in anything, the actors with PRESENCE and FEELING happen almost entirely by accident and are definitely a 1 out of every 10 crapshoot. I'm gonna keep going, because the show baffles the fuck out of me. I'm hoping I'll figure out what the fuck it's about by the end of the season.

The show's not perfect, but what were you expecting? (serious question) I think it's on par with every big name show on TV right now. And if not on par with where they're at right now, certainly better than where those shows were in their first seasons.

And yes, the President is pretty terrible at his job. I love it. You can't say we've never had an idiot in the Oval Office before.

Everything spoilers
The police commissioner stuff is illegal as hell, covering up arrests like that. The rest of it might not be illegal but it looks terrible in the eyes of the public and a President who will be running for a second term can't afford to be hitched to somebody that would look that bad. Typical corrupt politician that cost a community 12,000 jobs to further his own political gain. With as important as PA is to the democrats, they could never allow him on the ticket.

President approached him because it's the obvious choice at that point. Frank had become his right hand man and a close confidant. How do you think the president would feel if he got word that Frank had manipulated the entire PA governor thing to get the VP out of office so he could take his place? They know he plays hardball, they know he'll get his hands dirty but what I think kills his favor with the President is that they would now know that he's used and manipulated them this whole time.

One other thing I forgot before is that the whole lawsuit thing with Claire won't help either. On it's own not a deal breaker but add it to everything else and the list grows

Episode 9:

I was waiting for some sort of greater tension between Frank and Claire and well, here it is. I can't wait to see how he reacts when he finds out that it was her who made him lose the vote. I was going to stop on this episode today and save the last four for tomorrow but damn, I can't leave it like that!

More everything spoilers!
I get your point. I just think that 1) corrupt/shitty politicians are par for the course. 2) they don't have any evidence to tie him down to it, just circumstances, so it might not have quite so big an impact as to prevent him from taking the VP. It will definitely be a growing thorn in his side in S2.

Maybe, but they need Frank. They have no viable candidates for VP. And no one knows quite how deep the conspiracy goes; hell, I don't even know. I don't know about you, but I was under the impression that Frank actually was going to keep Russo under his wing (he seemed legitimately furious at his wife for fucking up that jobs bill) and mentor him so he would have a leverage over a major player in Pennsylvania? They might know he extorted Russo, but to go through all that work to build up Russo's campaign only to destroy it to destabilize the party? Even for a guy like Frank, I think it would be easy for people in the administration to think that's a couple leaps in logic too far.

Plus, I think they know Frank is self-interested but they have no reason to believe he's at odds with the President (he did get through his landmark legislation after all). If there's one thing the show has established so far, it's that everyone's in it for themselves. I think, at this stage, it'll take a further major fuck-up from Frank for the shit to really hit the fan.

Yup. Frank is so much more compelling when he's under fire from all sides. Episode 6 in particular was fantastic because of that.

- Sepinwall interview: 'House of Cards' producer Beau Willimon on writing for Kevin Spacey and David Fincher
By the time you read this, you’ve had the opportunity to watch all 13 hours of Netflix’s “House of Cards,” though I’m guessing most of you haven’t had that kind of free time. (As I noted in my review yesterday, I’ve only seen the first two hours so far, and am not sure when I’ll get around to the remaining 11; if you've watched a lot already, please be vague, plot-wise, in your comments.) In the meantime, though, you can read my interview with the show’s executive producer and head writer, Beau Willimon, who was hired by director/producer David Fincher after impressing with his play “Farragut North” (which was adapted into the movie “Ides of March”).

At press tour last month, Willimon and I spoke about what pieces he borrowed from the original British “House of Cards,” how he and the rest of the TV neophytes involved in this series approached crafting 13 hours that could all be watched consecutively, and what contemporary TV dramas he enjoys.

Oh man. LOVING this show. Its not the best, but its highly entertaining and HYPER paced. Its just a joy to watch.

I'm on Chapter 3. Has anyone noticed screen tearing though? I've never seen tearing on Netflix before, or any streaming video for that matter. But this show has noticeable tearing, its very odd.

The possibilities of the different outcomes, the different threads and reactions, they all just seem to fall into place regardless of what the current status of Underwood's scheming is. There's no breathing room for developments to land. And subplots... just don't add up well-rounded series. It's absurdly unbalanced.

Just finished the second episode. It's okay so far. Some of the policy discussion feels a little simplistic, but that can be forgiven. At first Spacey's monologues were a turn off, but I'm beginning to warm to them.

Screen tearing? What are you watching it on? I'm watching it on an Apple TV, and there's no tearing. I noticed a touch of banding in a few night shots, but that's it.

Watching it on Chrome, running on my gaming pc hooked up to my tv. Its super weird, I've never seen it before. Ever. And its only this show.

Oh god there was soo much banding on Netflix.com. I really should use the Win8 Netflix app to get higher bandwidth, but it won't run with beta AMD GPU drivers.

I'm currently using the Windows 8 netflix app to watch it and never had any technical difficulties.
