Mindhunter (Netflix) could get closure with 3 films from David Fincher

"Mindhunter" star Holt McCallany recently revealed to Cbr that he has spoken with David Fincher about the potential return of the acclaimed Netflix serial killer drama, which ran for two seasons in 2017 and 2020. The show centered on FBI agents in the late 1970s as they launch a task force to interview serial killers as a way of understanding their pathology. If "Mindhunter" does return, however, it won't be as a series.

"I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it's just a chance," McCallany revealed. "I know there are writers that are working, but you know, David has to be happy with scripts."

"Mindhunter" was more or less canceled in January 2020 after Netflix released cast members from their Season 3 contracts.

Fingers crossed.

I've still to watch this but it's one I've wanted to get around to for a while. I really liked Holt McCallany in The Iron Claw, he was a great choice for Fritz Von Erich.

3 films? yea this is not happening
It just being described as "a chance" does strike me as being the kind of things that Fincher might do at some point as part of his Netflix deal. But it not being actively worked on does make it seem unlikely it will go beyond that.

First season was 9/10 experience. Second one was... still good but they fucked up story with a lot of inserted stuff (DEI). Ehhh....
It's been a while since I watched Mindhunters, but what DEI stuff was inserted in Season 2?

At some point show forgot what it was about (minds of serial killers) and focused good chunk of the story on problems of black American communities. What the fuck? This was 100% inserted by Netflix politics at the time, same shit happened to umbrella academy season 2.

Really liked season 1, but somewhere in season 2 I stopped watching. Don't really remember why, tbh.

Because the show focused more on politics instead of the serial killers during the course of season 2. Huge mistake.

I've been interested in serial killers since I got my first computer at 13. I am aware of how twisted this is to say but other serial killer fans will get it. Obviously they're pieces of shit for what they did but I'm interested in their stories and understanding how they got to the point of murder. My favorite (this sounds even worse to say, fucking hell) is Ted Bundy, what a total asshole but his story is wild. I was pissed when this series was halted as they didn't even get to him yet.

My friend and I have been whining about wanting more ever since it ended and I was so stoked to read about movies, I would prefer the last 3 seasons (the original plan was 5 seasons) as there are other big name serial killers they haven't gotten to yet but I'm perfectly fine with the movie route.

Epic fuck up by Netflix not knowing what they had and then canceling the show. Love the show and it was obvious it was good after the hole that true detective season 2 left.

Not sure about movies though

They made the chick a lesbian when the real life person was straight.

Burgess has been attributed as the inspiration for the character Dr. Wendy Carr, a psychological consultant for the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit in Netflix's TV series Mindhunter. Several liberties were taken with the character of Dr. Carr. In an interview with Newsweek, she commented on Carr's character, stating that she emulated several aspects of Burgess' life correctly, aside from Carr's career in psychology as opposed to Burgess' in nursing. When asked why her profession was changed, Burgess said, "I think they felt they had to give this Wendy Carr an occupation or profession that people would understand, and they didn't understand nursing." Burgess also said that, though Carr's character is a lesbian, Burgess is not.

In 2024, Hulu released a three-part docu-series about Burgess and her work titled Mastermind: To Think Like a Killer.

Nah, he'll cancel it because Netflix won't give him an extra $10m to CGI-in some clouds.

Always thought this'd fit in better at Apple.
