MCV's PR blogger mad gamers didn't buy DmC, calls GAF a bad word

What a sensationalist title. Really? Open war? This is such a Kotaku headline.

Fact of the matter is he's right. When you have angry fans deliberately leaving shitty reviews on Amazon and Metacritic so that no one else buys it, You are going out of your way to destroy this brand. The facts support what he's saying.

And that accounted for the 1 million drop from DMC 4? Did the same thing happen for Mass Effect 3?

Maybe it would have done better if it had something unique going for it and when it was "reinvented" it didn't just look like a blander version of the DMC series.

There was nothing in the preview, the demos or the hype that made me want to pick this up at release day. There was nothing special about this game that made it stand above the rest.

If you want me to buy something at Day 1, how about we strive for excellence instead of mediocrity and have your art team think outside the same little box that many other developers seem to be stuck in. As it is, this is a game I would shoot the shit on but never on launch day. This is something I wait until a heavy ass discount goes in for.

Even as a fan of DmC, this is really dumb. People can have their opinions if they want. Throwing a temper tantrum against a gaming forum with an article is just silly

Well, they're going out of their way to tell other people how displeased they are. They have no obligation to support the direction taken, that's for certain. Saying the fans are doing it "out of spite" is kind of like saying Capcom went forward with the reboot "out of spite"; neither would be particularly accurate.

I also wonder if Parfit would be writing a bleeding heart article if DMC Japan tanked like this. Maybe if he was drinking buddies with some of those guys, he'd push their games more.

That title is a little misleading there. No point in pulling that.

- Retire Devil May Cry.
- Use that money to fund a Megaman reboot.

- by Ninja Theory.

I own all the DMC games and Heavenly Sword and Enslaved and have enjoyed all those games to various degrees.

I'm sure I'll enjoy DmC but I'm in no hurry to pick it up because of how obnoxious and unlikable the main character looks and appears to act.

Shots fired!

I resent being called a fuckwit, at the very least I'm a halfwit.

In all seriousness, nobody's obligated to buy a game they don't want to buy. If DmC underperforms, it's not the fault of the consumer, it's the fault of the product for not appealing to enough people for whatever reason.

Game journalists are so mature.

Did not buy DmC because of the 15fps cutscenes on PS3. Fuck you Ninja Theory.
See, that's a perfectly acceptable reason to not buy the game.

They should've never released the console versions in the state they're in. 30fps is just shit, I can't even imagine.

GAF is at last Ninja Theory's bitch. As is Parfitt.

Nah, they should get Fatshark to create a new Megaman title.

i really really like dmc. it's ninja theory's best playing game by a country mile and is genuinely fun.

why do dmc fans not like the new one? granted i've only played dmc3 and dmc4, but if anything i think it's a better game than 4 and i'm enjoying it as much as 3, with a lot less eye rolling. is the pacing of the encounters that much slower?

EITHER WAY, if people don't like something, it's not your responsibility to ridicule the audience for not buying something. do your best to convey your opinion on the game if you believe it deserves more support, but saying it this way is just unnecessary.

Remember that intellectual high ground that games writers had when they attacked gamers for not accepting that they have their own opinions and can review games as they like? Not a two way street. If you don't want the games they review highly then you are the problem once again.

“Devil May Cry fans destroy brand out of spite.”

I think the fan whining about DmC was way over the top but this headline is fucking dumb. Video games journalism - acting as publisher liaisons since 1972.

That's not very nice Mr Parfitt, is it?

I doubt a true DMC 5 would've sold that much, either. It's been a long time since 4 released and the market's changed since.
I absolutely agree, but I don't think that changes in the market are entirely to blame for DmC's sales failure. The tacit argument some people are making that it's, essentially, selling as much as it can in the current day's market is a curious one. I posit that the game's marketing and the demo are not irrelevant to its sales, and that the low sales can't all be blamed on the market and on adverse reactions DMC4. Maybe, just maybe, the game itself needs to shoulder some of the blame.

We are a very small minority, in the grand scheme of things. Critical opinions and fan backlash don't influence an entire market. You only have to look at movies to see that. Star Wars Episode II tanked, for example, right? The Transformers films are huge commercial failures because fans of the eighties TV series don't appreciate Michael Bay's creative changes.

Blaming the failure of DmC on this kind of thing is asinine. As is basing your game around the sort of grunge-inspired rebel teenager that peaked somewhere in the mid 90's.

I hate it when people do this. It's not a spelling error, it's them not understanding basic words in the language that they speak every day.

Especially for someone who writes for a living. He could of at least ran it by a colleague.

The saddest part is the guy who wrote this is the editor for the entire site.

It's of shameful quality. I surely of seen better writing by students working for the high school newspaper.

there should be similar articles about every deserving games that underperforms. Or none at all. Otherwise it isn't fair, and you'll appear like a crying, childish fanboy

And they call us assholes...

I love how he says "Fucks given = 0" and decides to give a fuck.

Still surprised that MCV isn't banned yet.

It isn't because of hair color. Most people I talk to didn't buy the game because apparently the gameplay is shit in comparison to DMC4. I don't have a PhD in DMC so it's not really in my place to speak on it, but the combat definitely felt "off" and it wasn't just the 30 fps. The style, cool hit effects, the smooth and cool animation, and the cool character/enemy design...... all gone.

Oh nooooo how dare we call you out on your fucktardery? We should just buy games we don't want to please out corporate masters.

DMC4 may have been rushed and wasn't as engaging as dmc 3, I had hoped they would learn for dmc 5 but to produce such rubbish that is DmC in a unnecessary reboot was asking for trouble. The sales figures ain't surprising, it had bomba status the day it was revealed.
