Asahi: PlayStation 4 to be over 40,000 yen

Japan has a VAT tax already applied.

That's something I hate about buying in Britain, in fact most of the world, is the VAT, sales tax, GST etc isn't included in any pricing. In Australia you can't advertise without GST included. In the states I understand because each state has its own sales tax. But Britain and Europe should be unified nation wide because there is only federal government.

Kaz should make a special JWong edition with "special features" and refuse to sell him any other version. :p

What are you on about man, all B2C companies include VAT in their prices. Only B2B exclude VAT. Also, Europe doesn't have a federal government?!?

On the high street over here companies can't advertise non-VAT prices.

Better not have any shortages like the ps3 launch especially since there won't be any complexities like first gen bluray diodes and cell processors.

If the consoles are released in September/October, and
the Xbox 720 allows used games: I'll say yes to a $400 PS4 with controller in March, or I'll say yes to a $400 Xbox 720 with controller in December.

If there are no games that call me, then WiiU.

what are you talking about? The only time tax isn't included in British prices is when you go somewhere like Costco or Makro where you can claim the tax back if you're a business.

Is this post for real?

... huh?

Anyway, it doesn't matter which way you pull the stick when you're in a tailspin.

In what world is Sony turning the Vita around and Nintendo dropping the ball with the 3DS?

Oh....well....ok....

Like I said i think launch will go fine. I don't think either console will find their footing until there at least some SKU at 299 though.

Have you not seen Killzone, or Tearaway, or Soul Sacrifice? Sony is definitely having more games out this year that are unannounced, as well as some sort of price drop.

Nintendo can't get Animal Crossing a concrete release date, release proper colors in the US, or give the system a proper online system by 2013 standards. Lost your 3DS? Oh, well you lost your digital downloads, too!

Expecting a $400 pricepoint.

I'm guessing more of a loss will be taken on the US model - depending on how the yen ends up later in the year.
They should do what Nissan did with the Leaf electric car and localize production to minimize chances of the yen value wrecking havoc on their profits. I think Apple is talking with suppliers to move Mac production back to the US, Sony should do the same.

$400-500 seems acceptable for a launch price, ideally $400 or $450. That's still damn expensive, but with how things have been going (especially as they clearly pushed WAY too hard last gen and now had to wait this long to make it worthwhile at 100+ more) I guess it's the best one can hope for.

VAT is included in advertised prices all over Europe by default, the only exceptions are stores targeted towards business customers (because they may be able to get a tax refund).

Well when I was there 6 months ago there were places adding VAT at the register.

Looks like the Sony marketing machine is in full force (?) The positive media for PS4 keeps on coming while there are plenty of negative ones coming out for the 720;

400 is about as high as I would go at this point in time. Unless they announce some new ground breaking features not yet rumored or leaked. They are in a tough position, a machine with the a solid leap in specs over the PS3 isnt going to be cheap, but with the roller coaster ride of the economy around the world, 500 plus a console isnt an option for many people. Im really curious how they will handle bc and if it is only on the first design of the PS4, I would pay a little more. My backlog is still pretty long on the PS3 and PC, so if I have to wait for a price drop, I wont be too disappointed.

subsidized makes the problem even worse, not better. i'm not saying these items are substitutes. i'm saying these items have increased the cost of living.

But the average consumer won't think, "oh damn, I got this phone for $100 bucks, but I got jacked on my bill!"

the vast majority of them will think "oh damn, this phone is $100 bucks!" and won't think, "damn my costs of living has increased"

And this is overlooking the fact that maybe these "must own items" like the smartphone and tablet are most likely replacing the laptop/computer, a product previously in the "must have category", so...

How does Killzone, Tearaway, or Soul Sacrifice have anything to do with turning thigns around? Luigi's Mansion 2 alone will porbbaly outsell all 3 of those combined. Nintendo may be dropping the ball with the 3DS in the west, but Sony can't even sell their handheld in the territrory where handhelds dominate.

The MS PR people must still be on holiday.

I'll wait a few years for them to put out a reliable slim model or something, but if it sticks at $400 for launch that bodes well for a future price drop.

I'll gladly pick up one holiday 2015 for $350

We don't have federal government, and you must have been at a warehouse store. If you were on a high street they just saw you coming mate.

It is illegal for consumer facing stores to advertise prices without VAT included. It has been for years.

Because majority of people complained the vita has no games. Since those are coming out the next problem in line (well since launch) is the memory card prices.

$400 is too expensive no matter what people on GAF think.

That pricepoint will not bring enough sales and that will hamper third party support big time.

Sony needs to bring it down to $350 at least.

400 plus a strong title at launch could really do work for Sony. A big title plus a F2P game like Planetside 2 console version could work?

So what, 450€?...499€
Fuck that.

Guess like with the PS3, I'll be waiting a couple of years after launch till I jump on the new sony wagon.
