Asahi: PlayStation 4 to be over 40,000 yen

Killzone is going to do jack shit for the Vita. Tearaway will probably be similarly useless to the Vita's future. Soul Sacrifice might have mattered had it come out last year.

The Vita is not shifting the numbers it needs to survive with games like those. But hey, maybe one of those ends up being a miracle title. But praying for a miracle is not something you hang your hat on when talking about a platform's future.

Speaking of Animal Crossing, it has sold probably 3 million units in Japan and is completely dominating the market over there.

And the mass market has shown that having a "proper online system by 2013 standards" is something they don't give a shit about, and that they're not worried about losing their 3DS. What matters is having top-tier multi-million selling software. The kind of thing Vita simply doesn't have and likely never will.

What do sales numbers have to do with when a game comes out in other countries? I love Animal Crossing, and have been waiting for New Leaf since I bought my 3DS shortly after the price drop. But, why is it Nintendo can't get translation done in a timely manner? Sony rarely has JP and US releases six months apart. Soul Sacrifice is coming about a month after in the US, and Gravity Rush was about a four month window. I'm not expecting Animal Crossing until April at the earliest.

399 is what I paid for my PS3. If they have F2P titles available at launch and the expected household names (Madden/COD/BF/ETC) they should have a successful launch period. I also think they should offer a tard pack without Hard drive.

I'll still be utterly floored if either of these new systems comes in at under 499.99 USD. I mean, to avoid having the ps3 compete with the ps4, the new one will have to cost at least twice as much. Same goes for the xbox. That's still less money then a full fledged ipad and it's also less then 600 which going by last time we all know is a price point you simply can't do.

I know in Japan the yen has been going all over the place lately so it's harder to predict over there but 48,900 yen maybe ? somewhere there abouts.

Most of Sony's games are being made by Western studios. Animal Crossing is probably just Nintendo holding the game back because they are already publishing a lot of games Q1 and it would hurt sales.

So are the N Irish, Scottish and Welsh governments answerable to the queen of the British government?

Erm, none of them are answerable to the Queen. The only political power the monarch has is the right to withhold royal assent (US presidential veto was based on royal assent)

Difference is, royal assent hasn't been withheld in centuries. Its just a form of check & balance now incase parliament are naughty boys

The 20 gig PS3 was sold for over a year after launch and cost just over 10,000 more than the PS2 was. The PS2 launched at nearly 40,000 yen at the time of release.

All bills need royal ascent from the queen, yes, but it doesn't mean anything in practice - the queen is just a figure head.

So it's similar to other commonwealth nations. So are the other members of the UK indepandant of England in the same way as New Zealand and Australia? Or does the UK basically mean they all eat at the same table?

Dude, give it a rest.

You're wrong about sale tax in the UK, and you highlighted your lack of knowledge about various types of governmental systems.

I've conceded the tax thing, i did when a bunch of locals explained it. I'm trying clear my understanding up of UK government, with a civil discussion. Go play with the babies, guy.

Because people who aren't from the UK decided to tell those of us who are from the UK how our government is run. D:

Many people from the UK probably don't know so God help the one's who arn't trying to make sense of it.

It's cause we are smart assholes.

I know I am.

No it's not. N.Ireland, Scotland and Wales have different degrees of autonomy, but they are not sovereign nations like Australia and New Zealand. Also England is the only part of the UK which does not have it's own parliament - it's directly governed from the UK parliament.

Sounds promising but now lets wait for the "You have to buy our proprietary hard drive separately" announcement.

Which would be a 5 month window. This is veering off topic though so I'll just say that unless it's a warped definition Vita is very much in trouble.

Expecting a $400 pricepoint.

I'm guessing more of a loss will be taken on the US model - depending on how the yen ends up later in the year.

Yep, they will use the Japan market to subsidize NA.

Well i guess it's a good entry point, but let's face it, we'll see better PS3 sales for months at this price in Japan. We begin to know how it works.

I meant as in a national government level.

Its O.K. I can understand the confusion as Unitary is a form of government like federal. I guess the confusion is because of devolution. Thing is, they are still bound to what powers the central government allows them.

As England though doesn't have a system of its own (very sore point for us English) we cant ever be classed as federal

EDIT - Best stop as this isnt the place for this, soz

No, they still have defence policy and taxation/economic policy set centrally. Health, law and justice, education and local government can be set in Scotland and NI. Wales has some say over health policy and can make suggestions for education policy.

Fucking brilliant, GAF surprises me every now and then. Thanks guys.

I'd pay $450 or even $499 if that meant getting an SSD. I have one in my PC and I will never, ever go back to HDD.

You know, they might also release a subsidized SKU for $199?($99 if they are crazy and with a $350 ETF) and then some monthly payments with PS+ included. A year or two, enough to hook people on PS+ after they pay the monthly fees.

I say this because I don't see them releasing 1 SKU and no other SKU. A second more expensive SKU saves them more money/closer to the break even point.

MS does have the option to do this as well seeing as they already do it with their 360.
It makes the next-gen consoles way easier to buy for casuals and anyone hesitating compared to buying upfront. Tbh, too many people are trained to do this with smartphones and contracts even though it is way more expensive than paying upfront(and when compared to next-gen consoles)

tl;dr: Expect more than 1 SKU. Maybe subsidized one with monthly fees.

400$ Standard PS4 edition

500$ Deluxe PS4 edition with twice the HDD, an official PS Headset and 1 year PS Plus.

I've already saved up 600$ from last two months salary so i'm ready baby. Just bring me a bunch of great launch titles as well.

Well the market reaction for this has been good. Sony are up around 4% in Tokyo. Either it's this or their earnings report has managed to find its way to the email account of a few traders. D:

If its a $400 that's a disappointingly low price for the hardware. I would be very worried about the next gen longevity and relevancy compared to the PC. Should be at least $450 and sold at a loss.

Thought Sony rumor was 1 SKU at launch. $399 is the correct price point for this. You break $400 and it is a giant stop sign to most customers.

Just like with the PSVita I believe that PS4 has been engineered to hit a particular entry price which they believe will make people buy it, and that price won't be higher than 400$. Still I expect a full fledged model at a higher price.

Itt people don't understand what OVER 400 means

ITT people know how badly the PS3 sold, and how badly every console breaking 400 has sold. If you can buy a 32" TV and a PS3 bundled with games for less than your console price you are going to have issues.
