GAF is growing

Because having to use a non-webmail e-mail means you won't have it too easy in case you get banned, or want to make an alt account. If Gmail was allowed, all you'd have to do is create a new address, wait a couple of months and that's it. The way it is now, you have to use a personal e-mail (such as your ISP's or work address), and that's supposed to make you care a lot more about your GAF account.
 
Pretty sure that has to do with how quickly one gets to be approved nowadays. From what I've read over at other forums and what my friends, who all signed up here in the past couple of months, reported to me, it no longer takes more than a month.
 
I'm currently being interviewed for the GameTrailers NeoGAF documentary, a feature for a major gaming website, and a feature for a prestigious gaming publication, simultaneously. It feels like NeoGAF has hit critical exposure levels since the beginning of the year.



Traffic has increased sharply.

i think we have enough approved users. allow the rest to lurk but thats it. the main gaming/ small sites already get some of their news from us anyways. keep it as it is.

I simply read GAF for a year before signing up. It's how most people should do it really.

Then again it's fun to watch juniors go down in flames too.

I was just really shy about signing up before because it seemed hard to jump into the conversations people were having, people seemed to really know their stuff while I felt I didn't know a lot, or I didn't feel like I knew the ropes yet. I'd been lurking GAF since late 2007/early 2008, but didn't decide to register until maybe a few days before Final Fantasy XIII's English release date.

And then I got approved a year after that, hahaha.

But new members seem to come in more frequently lately, and the approval process seems to be faster. I'd like to say that I am a little envious about that, but I feel like the extra year of reading GAF while not posting was for the best in that I felt like I learned what goes and what absolutely shouldn't go when posting.

Coming here from those same boards you mention was like night and day. Of course I got a pretty good feel of GAF just by lurking, but it was great to know I didn't need to keep browsing those other forums.

When the front page redesign goes live, it would be fun to have an "introduction to NeoGAF" video produced, about how the site works and what not to do. Maybe narrated by Jon St. John ;b
 
Yup. There has to be a number of factors involved. A new console generation just started, with more key players yet to make their moves, and of course the increased exposure of the site in major gaming outlets.

That seems like way of an overkill, I've worked on a company that handled about 3000 req/s and we did it for much much less.

GAF tends to get a lot more traffic when generations are shifting as well. I started lurking in 2004 because of all the rumors and discussion that happen about it on here.
 
Best forum online. The first time I visited and read around a bit, that sealed the deal for me. Sent my info in that day and happily lurked in the meantime until I could post. Have been a member of Gamefaqs for several years, and a non-poster for the latter half of that because, honestly, what a hole.
