GAF is growing

This is me as well. I just don't see the need to post the same thing that's already been said 10 times earlier in the thread...

Are you talking about my body is ready posts?

Because when I enter an OT and see a super informative poster going into the mechanics like they made the game (See: Durante, DahBomb, etc, etc) that's nice.

But I know I'm not going to be that in depth with anything other than Disgaea which is by itself pretty self-explanatory. So yeah, just trying to move the conversation along.

seriously where are all these complaints coming from? so what if more juniors are signing up to the forum, isnt this a sign of Gaf's continued and growing popularity? yes there will be bad ones in the bunch but that why there are mods to weed them out. Gaf isnt some Frat, everyone is welcome aslong as they play by the rules

I had to wait for almost a year until I got approval and post (junior member previlage). I waited for another 2 years more until I became a member. Hmmm...okay, but I think it need to be speed up a bit (not necessarily be open tho)

Oh God, I don't want two years to pass before becoming a real (non-junior) member.

But if that's the way it has to be, who am I to argue, right?

I'd be willing to bet NeoGAF gets a pretty big boost in membership applications and active users every time a new console generation starts to roll out.

edit: omg @ some of your wait times... mine didn't even last a month. It would appear I got very lucky.

It means he was a slow poster. 3 months since registration (not since approval) and 300 posts are required for Member status, IIRC.

Kicked around? Abusive mods? I have never seen these things outside of the famous Amir0x incidents, and even then the transgressions were in response to problems that shouldn't have been. I have certainly never been subject to any such thing. I definitely have been victim to a hate mob once after an honest mistake, but it was military-related so it was very personal to people, not like gaming stuff. I have also definitely seen a great many twats who seem to only know how to push limits and unconvincingly "not understand" the simple reasoning and extents of various rules around here and how one ought to post in their contexts.

Really, the rules aren't hard to follow. To me they aren't stifling at all and never have been so it makes me greatly question any claims I hear about unfairness. I have never seen a person get in trouble while keeping a cool head and being respectful toward others. Not once. Regardless, when you're talking about a private board, yeah, you can't view it like something you have a right to use as you wish. No matter how you spin it, it is a privilege and you don't need to have power here. This place is what it is precisely because such dynamics with the masses aren't in effect. GAF doesn't have to be slave to punks and dimwits and never should be.

When the front page redesign goes live, it would be fun to have an "introduction to NeoGAF" video produced, about how the site works and what not to do. Maybe narrated by Jon St. John ;b

I learned the hard way by not asking questions...

I was lurking during them Dragona riots and let me tell you. Post sparingly in niche threads or ass will be paper mached.

Just saw that GAF has 93k registered members now. That's pretty insane.

How about some more stats for fun? How many of those 93k registered members are active/not banned? Who are some of the longest-active posters (Exxy's single digit member number comes to mind)? Which posters have the most posts etc etc

Mine was only a couple of weeks I think. I guess I got lucky and applied around the time we chose to open the gates.

This person's account has been approved in under four hours. UNDER FOUR HOURS.
Four hours? FOUR LONG HOURS? I hope he sues GAF for trauma and psychological damage, after making him wait all that time, worrying about whether he'd be approved or not, and probably also masturbating in the meantime.

As they say, no such thing as bad publicity.
Tell that to Gearbox right now :P

When I make my first rap video, I want you to be right next to me EviLore with bish in the background slapping fools randomly.

About that kind of thing and why people often get bans.... Here is a basic principle to help understand what "respectful" means: Act like you aren't on the internet, but in a room full of people.

When a group discussion in person is getting heated, is that a time to pop in with a joke that belittles the whole topic of discussion and thoughts/feelings of everyone discussing it seriously? No. You will get a social shutdown, and so it is on here, and the response isn't always purely social. Mods are keeping an intellectual/social climate.

So many posters think they're being cute and don't deserve correction, but they aren't and they do. If you are apathetic toward something and want to joke about it, find someone else who is apathetic and chat with them about how silly everyone is being for getting so serious, just like a quiet private chat on a couch at a party.

Just a bit of advice from a decade+ veteran. You can risk your neck if you want.

Only took me 1 day to get approved. I hope the approval process never gets removed. Even with being a brand new member, I lurked around here for nearly a year and half.

Just the other day I saw a poster with another PP avatar. I said to myself, this place is growing. Great to see some fresh meat, new blood, initiates and neophytes.

New people is a good thing, as long as moderation remains the same.

Those looking for a second gamefaqs or vn boards will be highly disappointed.

I feel like an elite.

I'm about to go to a restaurant with the lovely wife. Might just flash my exclusive NeoGaf members card while I'm out.

Good lord, I don't think anyone will get rid of the approval system. Have you not noticed how many rubbish juniors we've had over the last couple of days? It'd be a hundred times worse without the approval system.

):

EDIT: My approval only took a few months. Don't know if that's the exception or the rule.

I was banned once for 30 days by a mod, whom is still a mod here, that made up a rule on a whim and started banning people in a thread. This was back when Star Ocean 3 came out on the 360 and he decided that anyone whom mentioned that it was going to come out on the PS3 down the road was worthy of a ban. Those bans never got lifted after the fact and certainly nobody cared about it. Even though I was respectful in my post, I still had to sit out a 30 day ban for no real reason.

Sounds like port begging to me.

It would be nice if there were a way to see the "opinions" behind bans for everyone, if not for mod accountability, then at least to know why X member was banned and to get a better sense of whats acceptable beyond just the tos.
This. Can we discuss ban stuff here (Evilore?) or is there a thread for that?

I was lurking during them Dragona riots and let me tell you. Post sparingly in niche threads or ass will be paper mached.

I post in popular threads all the time, and I've never been banned.

Though it helps that I'm an unoriginal bastard that usually has nothing interesting or notable to say in such threads.

I've always wondered: what does the approval system entail?

300 posts and a certain time-frame from what I understood for most people.

Obviously there are a lot of exceptions. Depends on when you're seen to/noticed I guess.

Edit: Yeah, I mixed up the change from junior to a member. I personally didn't have to wait long to be accepted and post...few days at the most.
