As you so clearly put, I downright refuse to believe that it wasn't feasible. I have seen the points others have made, and while they are valid points for many studios, Bungie should not have had a problem targeting more than two platforms with a 4 year development time.

So yes, I don't believe it because it seems outrageous in this circumstance, not because the points don't make sense.

I think in your disappointment at it not (seemingly, pre-reveal) being on your own personal platform of choice you are underestimating the sheer amount of work required in the interim time to create this brand new universe, one the studio are pinning their future on, whilst simultaneously almost doubling in size. Especially when you consider that they're more than likely getting to grips with next generation systems as well, given their intentions to at least make a version of Destiny available for Durango.

Apparently they got it from UPS when they couldn't deliver it in writing (I'm out of town in the middle of nowhere without a computer and barely any phone service. It wasnt fun trying to get them deleted)

What the hell, did they think they were from tomorrows ViDoc and you were press and leaked them?

People post all this preorder stuff but I post a few gifs showing already leaked concept art taken from of a video publicly available on Xbox.com and activisions lawyers call

woah, they actually phoned you? =/

Did you tell them to stop annoying you and focus they're attention on retail employees? :P

Holy wow, that's some actininja shit, not sure if legal. I don't understand at all why your gif was choosen to be the target.
They must be all over the press then because wow.

Honestly, I'm more disappointed they targeted current gen platforms at all, IF it means that either an Orbis, Durango, or PC version had to bite the dust as a result. This generation has gone way too long and now there could be yet another reason for consumers to avoid upgrading.

Of course we don't know of any other platforms, so this is all just a what-if. If part or all of this comes to be true though, mark be incredibly disappointed.

I still don't understand why gamers would think companies are just going to hard drop the massive installed 360/PS3 userbase.

Unless your game can only run on the new hardware, a company would be silly NOT to release a 360/PS3 version for the next couple of years.

With how long they've been working on this it doesn't make any sense to solely target next generation platforms because development kits weren't ready. They aren't going to abandon their vast expertise in the console space, either, or the install bases that reside there, before you ask that they develop exclusively for PC in the first couple of years. That makes no sense for them as a studio.

I see what you're saying but in every possible way it seems wholly unreasonable and born out of your personal preferences rather than actual logic.

I'd seriously be the most surprised person on the planet if this game got a PC release at all, let alone one that happens reasonably close to the console release and that isn't gimped as shit and unsupported. I'm betting on a halfhearted port of each game once the subsequent game is released on consoles.

Established user base > next generation.

It's a smart move to keep it cross gen.

Well contractually there's a PC version of Destiny 2 coming along with the others in 2015, but there was never one listed for Destiny 1 at all.

All signs point to Bungie (or at least a few key members) having gone into pre-production on this game after Halo 3. Next gen consoles were not even anywhere close to being on the horizon at that time.

Still though, it's kind of an awkward time to launch a brand new IP. I'm especially curious about the first "Comet" expansion. Will there even be PS3 or 360 versions for that? Or will the series become exclusively next gen after this year?

Slightly off-topic. But is anyone making an official Destiny thread tommorrow?

OT's don't go up till a week before the game comes out. But I imagine someone like Ghaleon or another Halo GAF vet will do it. (I'll do it, if you guys would like).

Also

OMG TOMORROW!!!!!!

What's the difference between third parties waiting on the Wii U to build up a market and third parties waiting to see public reaction of the new consoles before even dropping that much money to invest in?

I'm guessing the city is the MMO space with no combat, and you posse up to venture out on missions with daily challenges and the like.

Sounds about right. Maybe with arenas for matchmaking matches or something. Was hoping the entire solar system would be the gameworld/playground, but that's probably way too ambitious.

There's a thread in community for people to claim OT creation. It was claimed months ago.

I think it was May 2011 with Fable 3 for anything larger than an XBLA title.

Well 2 more games of that leaked steam list have been confirmed for steam yesterday and today with Duke Nukem, so I think Microsoft might be looking back into it with Halo 1-3 and hopefully more.

So it's not coming to PC or next-gen consoles? God dammit Bungie. You are now free from Microsoft - return the the platform that launched you into a top-tier developer!

I'm hoping that after a console announcement we get the added "oh yeah, it's coming here too." I know there were a few games that were released multi-gen when they first came out with the current gen.

Either way, I'll be putting in my preorder when I can.

The next gen versions, if there are any, will be likely revealed later. At least that's how i'd do it.
Gotta get people to buy the game on current-gen first...

I hope they also announce "Oh yeah, it's coming to PC too, and it will be a Steamworks title."

Then I will happy.
