Prey was a good game, with fun mechanics and good gunplay.

Sony's dual shock controller is crap, the sticks are terrible and the triggers lacking.

Half Life 2 is overrated and worse then Half Life 1, the story is convuluted and bad in 2, and the gunplay is not that good.

Mario Kart Wii was terrible, Mario Kart 7 is better.

Twilight Princess was Terrible as well, Zelda games are better with less realistic graphics.
 
The first person shooter genre is the absolute worst, by far. Its domination of the industry has changed gaming for the worst. "We want the COD audience" precedes many series being turned into junk in failed attempts to appeal to FPS fans.

Cinematic "games" are not games at all. If these developers want to make movies, they should make films. It saddens me to see people welcoming a flood of 3-4 hour games with minimal gameplay.
 
For all the talk I've heard of realism in gaming and complaints about games not looking realistic, I've yet to see an actually game that does "realistic".

I believe that artistic graphics are far superior to the attempts to recreate inferior versions of what we already see everyday. If I wanted to see a realistic tree, I would walk outside and look at one.

At what cutscene to gameplay ratio does it cease to be a "game", then?

Perhaps instead of saying they are not "games", you could think of them as "games with heavy emphasis on narrative", and if these are not to your tastes, you stick to the more typical games. There is no reason both can't co-exist.
 
Western games are generally overrated, especially WRPGs from Bethesda and such.

Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 are great games.

The Wind Waker Triforce hunt is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.

Brawl was better than Melee.

Call of Duty games aren't bad.
 
The Wii U's Pro controller is the most comfortable and ergonomic I've ever held. 360's is second. The Playstation Controller needs a reboot. I hate the L2/R2 buttons making my fingers slide off. Also, the placement of the sticks sucks.

I don't care what anyone thinks. I still love Sonic Unleashed and feel it's when the series really started to turn around. I even found the Werehog sections more fun than the Knuckles or Tails levels of Sonic Adventure 2. Even if they go on for too long. Medal hunting still sucks hard though.

Treyarch is now the best developer on the Call of Duty franchise.
 
Heavy Rain has one of the worse stories in the history of video games.(Okay maybe not that bad, but it was bad.)
Valve is one of the most overrated developers out there.
Halo 4 is the best game in the series, not that I really care for Halo.
 
Tank controls aren't that bad. They can be a bit difficult to get the hang of, sure, but they don't wreck a game simply by being there. People just make them out to be more of a problem than they actually are. Keeping that in mind, there's nothing wrong with 'cinematic' camera angles, either.

Deadly Premonition was the best game released in 2010. Nothing else came close.
 
Dishonored is jaw-droppingly generic and doesn't deserve anywhere near the praise it receives

Labeling games such as Dear Esther, To The Moon, Thirty Flights of Loving and other similar games as "artsy" games is just an excuse to look past their insultingly absent gameplay, stories, and anything else that makes a game a "game".

What exactly do stories have to do with games? Super Mario Bros. is one of the best games ever made. What story does it have?

Eh, you have to look at them more as "experiences" than games. ...Interactive stories? We don't really have a concrete term to label "games" like that. Pretty much the same problem a lot of people had with The Walking Dead. I do wholeheartedly disagree on the "lack of story" part.

Perfect Dark is a million times better than Goldeneye.

Xenoblade Chronicles is a bloated, ugly, piece of garbage.

Crysis 2 is better than Crysis.

I'm most likely switching from Microsoft to Sony next gen. COME AT ME, XBROS.

The Mario game's I've played are vastly over-rated, and it's either down the the art-style or nostalgia wooing people. They get away with far too much for just being "Mario games".

Super Mario 3D Land, which I quite enjoyed is regarded as one of the best 3d Mario's, yet it's repetition over every single world. It doesn't really bring anything new to the table and had any other franchise pulled the same move, they'd be derided for not innovating enough or being generic.
 
Call of Duty (even MW2) is a better multiplayer FPS then Counter-strike.

Crytek is a pretty terrible game developer (post-Far Cry). Even Crysis generally sucked, but the modding/levels the community created for it makes the game absolutely worth purchasing and playing.

Black Ops 2 single-player story was written like a Michael Bay movie and is just driven by incompetence and astoundingly unreasonable and unrealistic actions (and I don't mean the gunning down hundreds as a one-man army action). I can't believe that one of the writers for Nolan's Dark Knight movies was involved (and he even called the story better than a "Hollywood movie").

San Andreas was better.

Mario games are generally unappealing except for SM64.

Psychonauts is one of the best adventure games I've ever played.

Glad I could get that stuff off my hairless chest.

It suddenly hatches and out of it comes a young dinosaur named Yoshi, who then tells them that his dinosaur friends have also been imprisoned in eggs by evil Koopas. Mario and Luigi soon realize that it must be the evil King Koopa Bowser and his Koopalings.

Dust was a horrific game with terrible art and voice acting.

Fallout 3 is one of the worst games I've ever played. New Vegas is better in every measurable way.

Where does this exist in the game? Even so, the princess is kidnapped, go rescue her is a pretext, not a story.

Totally agree with both of those. I couldn't even play Crysis for more than 2 hours. Absolutely loved the second one though. I have a love hate relationship with jungle settings.

As for other parts of my opinion that could be unpopular....Super Mario Galaxy (1+2) are not that great. Found both of them way too easy and kinda boring. I bought Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction and Super Mario Galaxy on the same day and I enjoyed Ratchet and Clank sooooooo much more.

I also think the Borderlands games are pretty awful. I find it unbelievable that I somehow sank 40 hours into the second one.

No, it's really not if you're going to insult a game for not having a story. There are plenty of old games with no story at all, and at least a few new games that don't construct a game based on story. They construct it based on pretext. Which is fine. There are also plenty of games with Endless Modes, which have no stated objective, as well as other types with no stated objectives. These are also fine (see Tetris).
 
Regenerating Health is the bane of video games of today.

Call Of Duty needs to go the route of Guitar Hero.

Crysis is an interactive benchmark, and honestly they should have never made 2....or 3.

Halo and Gears need to have "spiritual successors" and please go away.

Deus Ex: HR is one of the best games made this generation, excluding those boss fights.

Max Payne 3 should have been a GOTY contender.

Xbox Live is a waste of money.

Multiplayer needs to get out of my single player games.

Dishonored will become a franchise and end up with multiplayer of some kind.

Oh and the AC series should have been put down a few years ago.

That's all I can think of for now.
 
The story bit I wrote was just one example of something these games are missing. To The Moon had a story (albeit cringeworthy) but it has no gameplay. You obviously took some offense so I'll assume you're a fan of one of those games I listed, in which case I won't even bother arguing further. I can't win :p

Granted the world was slightly better with how it was a single large entity, the gameplay mechanics seemed to suffer slightly and was the first thing I had noticed when put into comparison with Demons.

Do fear for the worst with the next game...

(Not being sarcastic - I really agree 100%)

Bethesda games are really boring once you get past the novelty of their open worlds. I feel like the concept behind them is usually far more interesting than the games themselves end up actually being.

Tales of the Abyss has a fantastic story.

I haven't played any of the games you mentioned. I find the logic and justification problematic, not that you were talking about certain games. Videogames have constructed narratives anyway, by virtue of the fact that you're interacting with them.

See that was one of the things that I liked and disliked. I thought it was cool that it was just one large world, but I enjoyed having a central hubworld a lot more.
 
Ill just throw mine in:

FFXII is the worst FF not numbered 13 (MMO's dont count). Its horrid, the voice acting *and voice sample quality* Is beyond terrible, it sounds like the recorded the game with PC Mics. The combat is yawn inducing (other than boss fights, which i admit use it well, but no where near enough). The music is the worst in the series, the characters are the most bland and the story, oh god the fucking horrible story. Also while pretty in some ways, the overal world is ugly, angular and feels like "hub after hub after hub" never consistent and never feels like "one connected world".


GTA4 is a severely overated and I want to slap any critic or gamer who said the story was "great" or even remotely good. Its terrible.

Both were interesting designs, but from a technical standpoint was impressed, since its rare that Japanese developers do something like that in the current generation of games. Granted From Software is one of the few companies that could pull it off when you look at their history with ARPG games and the insane types of worlds they create. I think one of the largest had to be Shadow Tower Abyss possibly from the PS2 era.
 
This is fun.

I have little if any interest in the next Microsoft and Sony platforms (reserving the right to change that after the 20th, however). I'd rather get a WiiU and a good gaming PC.

Related: gamer demand for high-end blockbuster games will cause the industry to eat itself.

Related: Gamers are the worst part about gaming.

If the next Persona isn't on the Vita or some other device that I don't have to sit at a TV for, I don't want it.

I like pretty much any given Mario game more than any given Zelda game.
 
Beyond Good and Evil is the biggest piece of shit of this and last generation.
Pokemon Gold/Silver/Cristal is the worst series of the franchise.
Sonic Adventure is a 100 times worse than it's sequel.
I don't care for any Nintendo game that's not Pokemon.
I don't care for any Playstation 3 exclusive this gen.
I don't care about any title that Valve has released.
Resident Evil 5 is the best RE game I've played and one of my favorite games this gen.
Never cared for SF3: third strike. Dudley personally is hard to look at.
I don't see the appeal in Ico/SOC or the Last Guardian.
I'm glad Kinect exists.
Blazblue is a terrible franchise.

I have more but I can't remember, but those are the ones that get me most shit.
 
Dead Space 3 is the best Dead Space game so far.

Visceral should continue to take Dead Space in the direction they did with third sequel. Maybe even bend the genre and go with something like a gritty space opera the way Riddick went from Pitch Black.

Diablo 3 should have been a $15-20 Steam/XBL arcade game.

The last 5% of Mass Effect 3 was actually somewhat less problematic than the previous 95%.
 
The Shin Megami Tensei/Persona series are not real JRPGs and I refuse to call them that. If it takes place in the modern world instead of a medieval, steampunk, fantasy, sci-fi or futuristic world then it ain't a JRPG no matter how hard you try to convince me!

Chrono Trigger is not the best JRPG of all time, that honor goes to Grandia.

FFVII isn't overrated, that honor goes to FFVI.

Dragon Quest VIII is mediocre

FFXIII, WRPGS and production costs didn't ruin JRPGS this generation. Localization companies such as NISA and Aksys did.

Tales Of Graces F isn't that bad plot and character-wise, people just hate on it because it copy-cats Lunar 2 too much and people don't like copy-cats.

I play Tales games for the stories and characters, and no the series is not "generic animu crap." Each one has a variation in their theme and characters if you actually paid attention!

Tales of the Abyss is the best game in the series and has one of the most original plots of any JRPG
