Kotaku Rumor: PS4 out in November, control with your phone/tablet, maybe $429/529

Is that where $429 is from? Sorry, I've missed this bit.

Anyway, on my reasoning - there isn't much but Sony being aggressive and wanting to take everywhere; meaning a more local effort. £299 doesn't make it cheaper to import; but it does make it more competitive in the UK; £310 or £315 just looks awkward when you can hit the more psychological price point of £299.
did you read the OP?

What component of the PS4 is supposed to be high end?

The CPU is pretty light weight: 8 jaguar cores

The GPU is pretty modest(not in anyways bad): 18CU@800MHz (~7850)

It's not a low end machine, but I don't see how anyone can call it a high end machine.
Do you have an approx cost/pricing for an APU with a spec like that? Come back when you do.

400-500 dollars is something I'm expecting, so if anything lower is offered then you can most definitely count me in (unless the next Xbox is more impressive).

Having said that I would very much prefer just one SKU.

I'm cool with all of this.

Sub makes sense. I'm actually glad Sony decided to go for a subscription.

what the?

You want to be charged for online?

If Sony charges for online, I'm done with consoles. Paying to play a feature on the game I just bought? Screw you.

The more I hear, the more I want the next gen to crash and burn.

That controller is the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

Seriously, f*** Microsoft. They're and they've always been a blight to this industry. Everything wrong with it came from them.
DLC. Subscriptions. Rushed games full of bugs that could be "patched"...

I though kotaku was implying that the PS4 would be able to stream a version of the game to a nearby Vita were they'd both be able to play "Local" multiplayer(a la WiiU). Which wouldn't require a subscription anyway, the same way it works on Xbox(sans the steaming of course)

unlikely that's what they meant, since the vita supports local multiplayer in the way I described with the PS3, for PSABR and Wipeout.

That Kevin Dent dude mentioned that Sony will talk about "tiered services" tomorrow. Does that mean different SKU and PSN+ packages?

Most likely PSN packages.

I wouldnt hold it against Sony doing something ridiculous though. If they actually believe a MP pay model will attract more customers after their current structure they may have read the market wrong.

Unless there are some attractive benefits to follow, otherwise its not a decent proposal from their side.

They would probably expect the average PS4 adopter to get used to it by time, which isnt really good customer service in any way.

I am praying this isn't another $599 US DOLLARS garbage launch

- $400
- some compelling new features with a hopeful outlook of lots more to come
- at least two decent looking launch titles that aren't boring like killzone
- fully backwards compatible starting with the PS1

may consider getting one at launch if all is met

I absolutely agree with you, which is why £299 makes more sense that £319, and $399 makes more sense than $429.

$429 is a very odd kind of price, it's neither here nor there. It is going to be $349 or $399. Those price make sense in the £299 context.

The Times have a legitimate source btw.

Did you read my post correctly?

I didn't claim either way that the components would be expensive or cheap, just claimed that they weren't exactly high end.
Did you read my post?

It's a high end APU. I havent seen any APU on AMD's roadmap for this year with specs close to that.

I'm well aware it supports cross play multiplayer between select PS3 titles, but thats not called it Local multiplayer, but infrastructure play.

How many developers do you think are going to scale down their PS4 games so that they can run on a Vita just so they can support CrossPlay?

did you read the OP?

I've been discussing it and its in the title. Obviously I've seen it :p
I was asking about where they got it and if it were a conversion from Yen or what like the poster seemed to suggest.

Ah okay I see. Yeah I suppose that makes more sense. also yeah am going with the Times since their not reporting to fans but people interested in the business side who'll pay for their subscription on good information. Not that Kotaku don't have a source they believe; just the Times would only go with one their 'sure' of.

Few days before the reveal too so they wouldn't bother unless this is 'I had lunch with someone at Sony and they were going for £299.

the hacking fiasco is a distant memory to anyone but hardcore fans, whose minds have long since been made up.

What was the long term repercussions of the hack? free games? it's extremely unlikely to have any lasting impact on console decision making.
You're probably right, by itself it's not that significant, but taken together with other missteps it's just one more fiasco to heap on already tarnished perceptions of Sony's brand reliability.

That said, it doesn't excuse daft rationalizations for why we should pay more for something that by all rights has already been paid for.

Since I already pay for Plus, I don't mind so much about this pay for PSWorld talk.

However, I will not pay for both services at the same time. So I hope that if this IS true, existing Plus subscriptions are phased into the World subscription at the same price, with the same perks available on the PS3.

Also, that price is a little high for a company that's "learned" from their previous launch price mistakes.

depends on who you talk to.

streaming doesn't make sense in that context, since the Gaikai acquisition means that you would not need to be local, and it wouldn't have to be on the Vita. That tech is platform agnostic and works from anywhere.

That Kevin Dent dude mentioned that Sony will talk about "tiered services" tomorrow. Does that mean different SKU and PSN+ packages?

Probably PS+ basic, PS+ premium, PS+ platinum or something like that. Basic is cheap and includes gaming stuff, premium is more and includes gaming plus other ancillary features, and platinum will be expensive and include something like Music Unlimited or Gaikai streaming of the first party PS3/PSN back catalogue.

Also, this is not some crazy revelation, most analysts have been expecting Sony to launch a premium streaming service of some kind, probably video. I think they will have Video Unlimited (like Netflix), Music Unlimited and PlayStation Unlimited as their three core streaming services, and subscribing to more than one gives discounts.

Hoping for a megaton? Fine.

Hoping someone flips out and goes crazy over something as trivial as a game console? Do you not see how that's a little disturbing? That's on some Gladiator type shit real talk.

I don't know man, you're the one finding it hilarious and expecting tomorrow to be a battlefield. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=47736181&postcount=162

Three services will be too confusing for the masses. Two is ideal... PSN+ Basic with a bit of ads + occasional 10+ % discount on games, and PSN Premium with little to no ads with bigger and more frequent discounts on game sales.

Kotaku should really get a timeout in that case.

This Dent guy didn't make both rumours, only the $350-$429 rumour. I just misinterpreted what some people were saying about him is all. Kotaku's rumour is from some other dude.

I'm not sure why Dent came up now actually, thread is too fast moving haha

People these days are so brainwashed by marketing and get so lost in cheering for their favorite corporation that they start to behave like the poster you quoted.
If someone were to manage to charge people for each shit they take and for each breath they take then people like him would cheer it on.

I misinterpreted the misinterpretation, I thought you guys were talking about the prices in the Kotaku article. itshappening.gif

And yet the Xbox and Xbox 360 brought us some of the best games of all time, so head on with that crap.

They prob just think people will get a second job to pay for one like last time. The problem is that i work 60 hours a week and make $200k a year and even i think its too much....

There were a few meltdowns in this very thread already, including one from the gentleman you're quoting.

There are plenty of people, such as yourself, that cannot fathom the consoles being more than $400. But, it is possible.

I think Sony is capable of making such a dumb decision, and is saying if they do such a thing they will bomb retail (if it's much over 400).

So far it seems that Sony is playing it safe with the PS4, while Microsoft (supposedly) and Nintendo aren't. Well, the streaming isn't playing it safe, but it's stupid.

One thing which kept me from buying a launch PS3 was that there wasn't anything which made me go 'I have to try that'. Oh, and price. I had gotten that feeling with the Wii, WiiU, DS, 3DS and Vita (though the price kept me away from it) though not the PS3, so I just waited for a price drop before jumping in.

I'm hoping Sony reveals something mindblowing, not just a graphical advance and some flashy OS features, since if that's the case, a PC (Steambox?) for my projector room which can play all 100+ of my Steam games is a much better investment personally than a console with insanely priced games.
