Kotaku Rumor: PS4 out in November, control with your phone/tablet, maybe $429/529

is it false?

There's a reason this is by far the worst gen ever.
Maybe Microsoft's relevance in the gaming business has something to do with it.

I don't know man, you're the one finding it hilarious and expecting tomorrow to be a battlefield. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=47736181&postcount=162

And? I still do. I didn't realize saying finding something hilarious actually meant it literally but oh well. Judging by the responses from just this thread, tomorrow really is going to have a lot of grayed out names. Thank you for going into my post history though. Remind me to do the same for you next time. ;)

That price point kills my interest.

Maybe after a couple of years.

Same here. The Wii-U at $350 with a pack in is what sold me. I'll play that until the twins come down in price quite a bit. Monster Hunter and Dynasty Warriors alone will make that wait easy peesy.

He is referring to the subscription based model in which cable companies like Comcast will give the new Xbox instead of a cable box.

If that's the case, then he's right. MS will lock up the US, at least in terms of sheer # of units sold.

Cable TV is one the last major systems that hasn't been seriously disrupted or disintermediated by digital. An xbox/cable box would be exactly that, and would beat Apple to the punch too.

That said, I think MS aren't totally insane: they know they have a core set of fans who want Halo et al, and I don't think they'll simply abandon them.

I did some research on Kevin Dent. He seems like the gaming version of a socialite. It's like would you trust Kim Kardashian? Doesn't really have anything to do with anything, but knows a lot of people and could hear things.

So, will there be any accountability for all the sites (with all their wildly varying rumors) claiming to have legitimate information and sources?

I hope we see some new banned sites when this is all said and done.
Clickbait is diluting game 'journalism' to the point where it's impossible to find any information, even if you go look for it on a compilation forum like gaf.

Well do feel free to share your findings and publicly shame him.

I wonder how big the bump in price over plus will be. 20..30 bucks?

They will probably offer two separate tiers or maybe even do away with plus completely.

]I think you are severely overestimating demand for these consoles.[/B] The leaked specs currently seem to indicate wouldn't even lose much money at $400.
Yeah, GAF's been chomping at the bit for a while now, but that doesn't mean the rest of the world is. They're probably fine with PS3/360 for the next couple of years. Wii U may join them once its system sellers come out, or it may not. Up to Nintendo, that one, methinks.

If either/both consoles come out at $400+, they can say goodbye to spectacular sellouts right out of the gate; most punters will just go "I can get a PS3/Xbox 360/WiiU for half that, fuck right off" or "Well, I already have a PS3/360/Wii U/PC, I'll just stick with that" or "Fuck it, time to follow the herd and buy another overly expensive Apple product because herp derp" and leave them on shop shelves until some more compelling reasons for upgrading roll around. That's my prediction, anyway.

As for PS online play, it will likely remain free. Everything else is fair game, though, including (what used to be) PS+.

Findings? I just looked at his linkedin and some other articles and attributions to him. I don't do detective gaf. :)

If anyone knows anything about pricing structures and all that, it's the higher ups of the companies (and direct stakeholders) and not these lowly developers and "sources".

My brand new awesome laptop that I use nearly everyday and that is incredibly important for work and school was purchased for only $349. I couldn't possibly spend anything more than that on something that is for a hobby/leisure time. If that $429+ price point is true, it looks like I'll be spending a bit more time with handhelds for the time being. (my TV is tiny and shit so it wouldn't be a good idea anyway).

somebody photoshop:

onto kim kardashian's body or something.

Well even the high end price is less than both my tablet and what I payed for my ps3.

The whole subscription thing is interesting. Sonys decisions about what is in or out of the subscription is frought with peril. Does basic online play stay free and everything else like crossgame chat, online apps, game streaming, etc go int the subscription?

Media steaming apps like netflix and crunchyroll in the subscription would bother me. Hell thats true of anything I need to subscribe for. And it would be rough when there are non gaming boxes that offer it for free (like roku, etc, etc).

He probably hears things that are being fed to him. His tweet on how MS would have absolute domination was very telling...

Maybe Microsoft's relevance in the gaming business has something to do with it.

The topic of best gen ever is purely subjective. I for one have thoroughly enjoyed this gen on all platforms and some of the games this gen have done a fantastic job propelling the industry forwards. To say Microsoft has been a bane on the gaming industry is like saying Sony entering the console business after getting trashed on by Nintendo was the end of gaming. Each company has brought pros and cons to gaming. We live with it, and everything continues to evolve.

If Microsoft offers a $199 subsidized upgrade path for Durango on contract and/or locks down an exclusive "Xbox as enhanced cable box" contract with Comcast at launch, it frankly won't matter that everyone else is gunshy to jump in at a $400+ standalone pricepoint.

They'll be so busy manufacturing Durangos at those other pricepoints to build an install base they'll have perpetual supply issues even if the $400+ market isn't driving much traffic.

I too, have enjoyed them.

But this gen?

I used to be a gamer in a time where it were the games that sold a system...
Not features.

Read up a few sites for information on this Kevin Dent guy.

He's the next Pachter. I'm serious.
He doesn't have Pachter's media savvy skills. He can make a name for himself on Twitter but he won't be getting guest invites from Keighley to appear on GameTrailers unless he becomes proficient at giving them the soundbytes they salivate over. Pachter's got his number there.

I mean the same as Pachter in terms of bs coming out of their mouths

I think we want to bash these guys but they must have sources telling them something. The sources could be wrong.

I know Pachter gets to visit Microsoft before E3 to see their presentation in WA.

Seeing some hoping for this to happen just reeks of people really desperate to justify their choice to payfor p2p online that should be free in the first place.

I agree...The people saying Sony should charge for online are people who have zero interest in buying a PS4.. Also its interestin who all have come out of the woodwork today...

I will be buying a PS4 on day 1 and I think they should charge for online. I want Sony to make as much money as possible to reinvest back into gaming.

Yes we all want to see Sony fail.... More like I enjoy Sony games and if this helps keep them afloat ill pay. I already pay for ps+ even when it was shitty.

Sony didn't fly Kevin Dent to Tokyo last week to show him PS4, you can be sure of that...
