DriveClub (Evolution Studios/PS4) announcement trailer. [PS3 WHEELS ARE SUPPORTED]

Wonder if this started as PS3 game? Not impressed with the polygon detail there. Textured lights and low quality reflection mapping

I disagree. More to the point, the lights are not textured (if what the devs said during presentation is true) and I really do not see the quality of reflection being low, at all.

I loved the guys genuine enthusiasm. Though I was secretly hoping for a Wipeout epic game, this was indeed a great showing. Can't wait to see more of this game!

Strap in Master Chief!

You might not grasp this concept, but, doing exactly that makes the car more real. I don't get a sense of scale or the "reality" of the car when i'm playing a racing game - but watching that video of the driver (you) closing the engine compartment, opening the door and getting in the car etc really made me feel like i was there and it all just felt real.

yeah, most def... most people not liking it dont care at all about car games... people have been requesting detail from Forza and GT forever... more detail the better.

Yup. The whole "team racing" idea just sounds like such an uninspired sales pitch for a racing game. Most racing games have that as a part of the multiplayer. Why is a game being built around that idea worthy of attention?

It's just bumming me out that I might never get to see a Motorstorm on this hardware.

Just me guessing, but I reckon you'll see one within the next few years. I doubt they'll put a sequel for this out close to GT6.

Evolution expanded their studio too, right?

wow you think a last gen car looked better ?? Not even GT's premium models look like that let alone smaller franchise

they have literally unlimited amount of ram to work with . they can come with a 2m poly per car

Like I said in my previous post you must not know what Autovista is. I play every racing sim/game because I love them. If you didn't instantly compare it to Turn 10's own hi-poly cars, then you should probably not comment. You can put a billion polys in a car and still not quite look right. I expect Turn 10's cars, which are in Forza 4, to return in Forza 5...so this should be fun to compare.

(These are "last gen" Autovista and High-poly in race shots) All shots taken in-engine/game. I even took some of these.

This shot I took myself. This is on the 360...one of multiple systems I race on.

I expect "next-gen" to blow this stuff out of the water.

Hopefully you now understand why I said I still think Autovista mode from Turn 10 looks better....or at the worst...equal. Again, I expect DriveClub is not even out of Alpha though.

Model/polygon wise they're at the same level to Forzas AutoVista models (not race models) more or less, lighting and material wise they are not. Overall Drive Club clearly looks better.

Yes, that was my point. I don't think the guy has ever played Forza 4. I was referring to those modes not the mid race models.

Things like "multi reflection lenses" were in Forza 4....in Autovista and photomode in races.

I expect Turn 10 to deliver those Autovista models or better in gameplay this time, so it should be a fun comparison.

Here are some head lights up close in their last sim offering.

I'm also curious as to what the Horizon sequel will be.

I thought it looked the worst among all games shown, seems like a higher ps3 tier game.

I think the visual quality of games like GT5 have had a big impact on opinions like this ...

I've subscribed to the thread for now but I'm still not totally sold ... it's a shame they couldn't just have taken care of PD's online element [and sound recording after watching the trailer again] for GT6 while concentrating on either a new Motorstrom/Wipeout title.

Really excited for this, and as others have noted, Matt's genuine passion for the product really helped sell it. Sony's racers have always been a tier above the rest(imo), and is one of the main reasons I'll be getting a PS4 day 1. The social features are just the icing on the cake - I'm really looking forward to GAF DriceClub.

Speaking of, does anyone have a link to watch this presentation again? I can't find it for the life of me. =(

Evolution Studios. Playground Games.

Polyphony Digital. Turn 10 Studios

Microsoft and Sony first parties directly competing for our time and money can only be a good thing.

Keep the info coming Rushy, very eager to know more about DriveClub.

Exactly. About time we got a proper racing game from Sony besides GT. Polyphony takes so much time that we need something in the middle.

Yeah,I think Evolution should've returned(since they made WRC) to realistic racing games with licensed cars after the first MotorStorm.

Also a 2nd Sony racing IP may put a needed pressure on Polyphony Digital so they wont take forever to make a new GT from now on.

PD can do whatever the hell they want unless this game sells just as much as GT.

But what does club racing mean? How do you race as a team? Especially with road cars / hypercars, I'm worried that will mean some silliness, rather than the car culture game that beginning of the announcement had me excited for.

The 'likes' button also has me worried.

However, hurrah for racing games. I am now even more excited for GT6. And, I imagine Project CARS will be headed towards ps4.

I know i'm in the minority (at least here) but i wish this game also had the option of a third person view.

Graphic wise it looks incredible though and i'm looking forward to see more from it.

This game looks pretty good, but they didnt show much. But Evolution studios did some amazing things with motorstorm last gen, so I hope for the best

They haven't flat out said that there's no third perosn option, but they're referring to it as "first-person-racing".

I think this is a case where Sony should put its foot down, as the publisher, and tell them it has to have a third person view.

I understand artistic vision, but you shouldn't limit your game's appeal like that. It's just stupid.

30 fps is no big deal to me if the driving model is arcady. Looks like a fun game. I wonder what the team-based challenges consist of. (What is photographic reward?)

I didn't really get what they meant buy clubs but obviously I'm going to get whatever racer is out at launch and the detail in this game looked great.

I was wondering if it was similar to Ridge Racer on Vita where you choose a club (not car make) to begin with and sort of compete against other factions? :S

If this game has it to where you can have your own house. Work on your car at home and meet up and drive with different people around various roads ala cruisin USA. I think they could have a winner. It seems to be more of an enthusiast game.

Interested in this game. Sounds and looks very promising.

Also, want to highlight Matt Southern's excitement and enthusiasm as well. You really see that he and his studio put all their soul and passion to this project. They infect me with this enthusiasm :)

this game looks great, but....

is anybody else completely bummed that we are getting what appears to be an arcade version of gran turismo instead of a new wipeout or motorstorm? i'm not into cars, but loved those games. this interests me far less. i hope there are some over-the-top racers next-gen and we aren't solely relying on criterion's output.

We all want to have seen wipeout for sure. Motorstorm is still coming surely it's a bit too arcadey to get my full attention as a launch title though so I'm not too bummed about this being first.

really?? i was assuming that evolution was a 1 game studio. could they have a team working on a next-gen motorstorm/wipeout?? i would feel much better if that was the case.

Yes. We have seen a lot of games just like this one recently. In fact, GRID 2 comes out in May, and looks awesome. Semi real racers are not unique. This "team racing" concept doesn't sound exciting either.

How many Motorstorm like games are there right now? Basically none.

I would much prefer Evolution be dedicated to arcade racers, where no limitations are placed on you because of real cars. It's kind of a shame, but I guess Sony felt it couldn't rely on Gran Turismo alone anymore. :/

Driveclub is highly unlikely to be a sim or in the same category as GT/Forza. It looks, and I hope, to be a similar game to PGR.

This looks great but I was hoping for. Fun arcade racer like motorstorm, or put spy hunter in there. I will probably get this game since its next gen but for the most part I've grown very tired of these serious racers where you just race and upgrade cars in all of them.

They should re brand it into a GT side series or something. It looks high quality enough to deserve the GT name.

Something like, Gran Turismo: Drivers Club

It was reported that they wanted to use the Gran Turismo brand for the title but Kazunori Yamauchi said no.

Sony gives too much power to their devs.

Ehh, sorry, I didn't mean for launch..just that at least it would be coming down the line..unlike wipeout it seems.

I'm interested in the premise behind DriveClub. Sounds like fun with the whole racing in a club thing going on. Couldn't really tell how well the graphics were looking, but they'll be improved regardless.

This looks nice, but I sure hope it's 60fps. 30fps racers border on being unplayable, for me.

Yamauchi is a true asshole for blocking that.
I'd say fair enough if Yamauchi is planning on releasing GT6 early in the life cycle

Otherwise he should get bent. Sony should stop caving in so much to their developers. Especially when the quality of output has dropped off so much from PD

i really hope this more more a simcade like forza rather than flat out arcade GRID bs, graphics look very good but not sure if they beat pcars, maybe the lighting is better
