Looking forward to the comments from the group.

Also I hope JJ has read a lot of GAF so as to educate the others on why people are excited for GDDR5 :-P

8-4 play and weekend confirmed back to back make every other Friday exceptional.

Edit: looking at breakdown. Dat one minute Square Enix topic lol.

Will listen to tomorrow, although I'm not so so interested in PS4 analysis.

Will put it on while I do moving prep! :)

Considering how much time these guys spend jacking eachother off over the chance to buy the same MonHun game again on another platform, they should probably cool it on the Killzone hate.

I'm hardly a big Killzone booster, but we shouldn't be surprised when next gen systems are giving us prettier versions of popular genres. (also, if you pay attention the peace time terrorism with a divided city, Berlin wall style, was actually a pretty interesting direction for the series to take).

Monster Hunter's a game worth buying again though.

This is maybe a really naive question, but do diehard "Killzone" fans really exist? Comparing Monster Hunter to Halo or something I can see, but my impression of Killzone is that it's always been considered second rate. Am I wrong?

Maybe I just can't get over the name Killzone.

There are people who like individual KZ games a lot (2 in particular has its superfans), but the series in general doesn't have a huuge following. I think the overall shittiness and asinine "Halo-killer" marketing of the original Killzone has forever doomed it to live in the shadows of more lauded FPS franchises.

Doesn't mean the games can't or won't be great, though. But I doubt it can get by on name alone like some of its contemporaries.

It has got better ratings than Monster Hunter games this generation, and I'm sure it has die-hard fans because of the multiplayer. Personally, I've only ever played demos of both series. KZ3 seemed to have really good Move controls, but the big Trophy focus on multiplayer put me off buying it.

As a fan of the second game, I think Killzone 3 probably burned a lot of that goodwill.

You sound like a Killzone booster attacking these guys for hating on it, and you defending it. is it pretty? yeah. Is it doing anything that we haven't seen already? no. It's a by the books new launch console shooter, every system has one or two, and they are usually forgotten rather quickly.

Killzone 2 had great FPS multiplayer. And the Helghast are cool looking enemies. That's about it.
I can understand why you would want to have an explody shooty-bang-bang game at a conference about next-gen because that is the genre that dominates AAA console game sales.

About Mark's comment about Tom(?) not being worried about so many cameras in England. Ask how many women are worried about having to wear Burqas in Afghanistan. It's just something that becomes normal for you, that doesn't mean it's good.

Edit: I'm laughing so hard at the David Cage quotes. :-D

Monster Hunter is a good game though.

A subtle difference but a difference nonetheless!

Love the cast but I do not understand the mehness about open world games when everyone on the cast goes insane about another Mario, another Zelda...same old same old.

But their main complaint about Killzone was that it was creatively bankrupt in the way it recycled content and ideas! It was just a ridiculous reaction to a game that doesn't interest them, especially when they are notorious for freaking out about playing new versions of the same game in a series that is famous for not appealing to a large group of people.

It's not just killzone, they regularly talk shit about the west and their sequels.

It's a podcast about Japan, games and Japanese games.

Why would anyone move out there to do localisation work if they thought Japanese games weren't better?

That's not totally true anyway. Doesn't Mark really like Dead Space and Halo?

But I am amused by the contrast between how much they love anything and everything Monster Hunter, and how completely indifferent and dismissive certain segments of the Western gaming press are towards it.

Whoever said he hasn't used sixaxis needs to play Warhawk or Flower or snipe some people in Killzone.

He said PS4 has analog out but doesn't support component. I would just skip past their tech talk.

It's not about liking japanese games more, its being hypocritical of enjoying the sequels (and same game) of stuff they like and lambasting others for enjoying other sequels. To be clear I haven't listened to this ep yet, but it's a recurrent theme.

Mark Cerny is like the industry's best kept secret. I looked him up on wikipedia after the event when I saw the insert credit guys fangirling all over him. HOLY SHIT - Marble Madness, Sonic 2, Spyro the world's awesomest Dragon... my god he's my favorite guy in the industry and I didn't even know ::swoons::

Yep. I was so psyched for KZ2 and played it a ton, then KZ3 came out with the impact of a wet fart. What a complete let-down in every way, totally killed any interest I had in the series.

cannot wait...was bummed out that even though gaf thread was up when I woke up itunes wouldnt dl the podcast before I had to go to work!

cannot wait to listen to this episode and will most likely skip the 1.5 prior episodes I haven't listened to yet to get to it!
