One month from today: BioShock Infinite

Well Irrational basically took UE3 and modified it. Gutted it. Added their own things to it. The lighting engine is brand spanking new though.

I have no worries about the PS3 version.

And yeah Robo, new vid is outstanding. It's the 40 minute interview on GameSpot.
I'm not to worried about how they're gonna run, but I do really wanna know how much worse it's going to look/feel on consoles. I don't have a PC good enough to run it well.

Yeah someone asked ken what system is better and he told the dude to get both, I love Ken Levine he is so funny.

I just wish there was SOME current media out there from consoles; it's pretty obvious that they're playing on PC with an Xbox controller.

The VGA trailer was most likely the 360 version.

But no one can blame for showing the game where it looks best.

I spent some time watching the gamespot interview and other promo material. So much hype! Anyone else notice
The letters AD on Booker's hand?
. Wonder if it's significant.

I'm about to put down a pre-order.

Steam and XCom sound amazing.

But GMG has the Darkness or Spec Ops + 14 off.

Any suggestions from people who've played The Darkness? I liked the demo, first game was great.

I bought the game on faith because bio 1 is one of my favourite games ever but I cant help but dislike, or at least in comparison much prefer Rapture to Columbia. Something about the colour pallet really sits badly with me @:[

Can't wait!

Picked it up for $25 from the AMD promo after selling the Tomb Raider key that came with it. Couldn't bring myself to pay $35 more for duplicate games and TF2 items. Now I'm just wondering when AMD is going to send the keys out for it...

I'm managing my blackout fairly well even though I've been looking forward to the game for a long while. I've cheated--just a little--here and there, though (and was pleased).

Reposting Ken's tweet from the weekend:

RT @hollandercooper: @IGLevine Is BioShock 2 in canon? --canon is about to have new meanings.

Chew on that for a bit.

Yes it will be revealed in the game Levine said.

The last time I was this hyped for a game was for Max Payne 3. It also went through some development hell that lasted years and turned out fucking spectacular in my opinion. I even enjoyed those unskippable cutscenes, and still do.

Bordering on three weeks, guys....

...Is it just me or is this 32 seconds long.

Edit: Okay I managed to watch this. Jesus, that's tense. I really hope the facial expressions in the final game are better because the emotion is strong in the voice, not so much in Elizabeth's face. [than the E3 2011 demo... Ofcourse it's going to be!]

Can someone explain what exactly I'm getting with a preorder? The terminology seems confusing. Apparently you get in game currency and some sort of items right?

I know for sure you get that Industrial Revolution puzzle game (dont know how that works) and the China Broom shotgun, which is in some way associated with Comstock.

Not sure on the Steam preorder bonuses, although there is a handful as always.

Then of course there all that single player stuff you get with the Season Pass, which I'll be all over.

So now I'm wondering if using the preorder weapons breaks the game as it was designed? This is why I hate in-game incentives. I just want to play the game as it was meant to be experienced.

Then dont preorder so you avoid the bonuses? I mean just in case? I doubt the weapon bonuses break the game. I dont even recall a preorder bonus weapon that "broke" a game before.

Irrational can have all of my money. I dont give a rats =P

I realize it's probably not a big deal, it just sucks to have to think about it at all. I'm wondering, did the designers take into account this weapon when they were designing the environments and inidivudal conflicts in each level, or was it something cooked up later on? Or on the other hand, since they know their most dedicated fanbase are likely going to preorder it, was the game designed to be a better experience with the preorder weapon or extra game currency?

It would be nice if I could just play the game knowing that my experience is the one that was originally designed by Irrational; I wish games would just come out as a concrete product without the option to graft these "bonuses" to them.

You should tweet Levine and see what he has to say. Or hey, write a small note to Irrational.

And then post the response here =P

I was thinking of doing this but I'd rather not create a link between my twitter account and my GAF account. Worlds collide! Feel free to link him to this discussion though (which, I just noticed, is one of few GAF discussions involving two people with real names, haha).

My guess is he and most of the other people on the team have probably seen this thread. Im going on base assumptions, but I think FartofWar is actually Shawn Robertson (Robinson?) the animation director. If it isn't him, Im pretty sure he is part of or tied to Irrational in some way.

i want to preorder for xcom but i also wonder about preorder game breaking stuff.

the extra weapons i got in dead space 2 from buying on steam definitely broke the game early on.

FartOfWar is Shawn Elliott, level designer. Also of EGM/GFW fame.

You can just not use the 3 upgrade items, right? I'm assuming they're like the passive upgrades in previous Bioshocks where you can swap them in and out. The free money and lockpicks probably won't drastically change your experience. I've never felt like I was suffering from a lack of money or items in other Bioshock games, so having more at the outset probably won't have much impact.

Even if it ultimately doesn't make a difference, just knowing that some people are starting the game with extra lockpicks & cash is sort of a sign that the mechanic in-game isn't really important overall. Even if it's a relatively small effect, it still kind of cheapens the overall experience.

Every time I see your name and you post I just think of

I wish they would show more gameplay from the PS3 version I ordered a new 360 controller even though I preordered the PS3 version so I might switch over. But I might stick with the PS3 version have to see.

Damn, I was just informed I have to travel on business the week it comes out :S

Actually, that might be a blessing in disguise! I'll only get no sleep over the weekend!

Yo Andrew what platform you getting BioShock Infinite for just wondering. What platform is everyone else getting it on kinda curious.
PC via Steam. This is going to be one of the games where I'm going to plug my PC into my TV and I'm going to comfy couch it with a controller.

Steam as I've heard PC is the way to go. I prefer to get everything on Steam if I can. I played the original Bioshock on PC with a 360 controller, but from what gameplay I've seen of BI, I think I might prefer a mouse this time (seems to be necessary to quickly look around the environment).

I hope those facial animations aren't final :( It's missing so much emotion that the voice actors are putting in. Storytelling is in the expressions as well as the voice. :(

Really cool clip though.

It depends on how much money and how many lockpicks you find in the game in a normal playthrough. I'm guessing the total amounts make the pre-order bonuses look trivial in comparison. If anything, it's the bonuses that are cheapened, not the economy or lockpick mechanics.

PC for me. I only have a GTX 460, but it's been serving me well for games that were also released on consoles. I hope I can play at max settings at 30fps, or 720p at closer to 60fps. I don't want to choose a new graphics card until the next gen consoles are both finalized.

I'll be getting it for PS3. Hopefully my system wont be dead by then. I basically bought a brand new TV for this damn game.

Looking forward to seeing plenty of mind melting PC pics though

My GTX 560 juuuust made it into the Recommend Stats. Makes me kinda sad, it was pretty godlike only a year ago. And I really don't feel like upgrading when we're on the cusp of new consoles(that I'm likely to buy anyway)

But in the meantime, Tomb Raider/Bioshock should be looking good on my rig this month
