Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | March 2013 | Carving an Independent niche

I used the $10 credit Sony gave me to buy Stranger's Wrath yesterday. I only played a little bit of it, since I'm neck deep in other games (still working my way through AC3: Liberation), but I really enjoyed what I played. It looks great on the screen, and the controls are really, really smooth.

I never played the original on the Xbox, so this is a new game for me. I love the western vibe and feel to it. I'd love to see a Red Dead game on the Vita, actually...

I'm guessing it's you. Sorry.

I've got both and I have no problem winning on either. In fact, I've even managed that "Win a match without dying" trophy on both. O_o

Yeah, keep trying. Practice makes you better.
Pick someone who "feels" right for you... then find the best way to generate AP with them.
The last step is figuring out how to best exploit your supers. Can you keep cleaning up with level 1? Should you save til level 3? Or a mix of 1 and 2. (Example, I pretty much store to level 3 with Kratos, use level 2 exclusively with Spike, while Raiden and Dante I stick with mostly level 1).

Once you get better, you'll want to start working in throws and dodges. Throws work to drain XP from opponents, so it's useful against people who are storing to get to level 3.

Yeah I figure its me right now. I've only had it for about a week or so and maybe only played 10 hours max. I'm still getting a feel for everything so I'll hopefully be at a point soon where I feel like I'm fully grasping the game play. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't harder to master the game on the Vita as opposed to the Dual Shock. I think my problem is with the supers. I've found some decent ways to gain AP with the characters I'm using but I was waiting for the level 3 to come around. By the time I had enough AP for level 3, the other players had done their level 1s and 2s a few times. The problem with the level 1 and 2 is, of course, that they can be dodged.

Also, does anyone have this? It seems like it would be a good purchase for me. As I'm away from home a lot and sometimes, like today :(, I forget my charger and my Vita battery dies...

Haha I know, but I mean it's very different from Monster Hunter in tone, in particular. I don't know if something so different is what the Japanese would want, or if they'd prefer something way more like MH but shinier.

Monster Hunter seems to be on a dark fantasy trajectory with the virus nonsense anyway. Maybe they can do a cross-over with Biohazard/Resident Evil.

At this point I would attribute MH's popularity more to its peripheral elements than its core gameplay. Stuff like dressing up the cats, collecting costumes, and filling out the achievement badges of guild cards are probably as important if not more important than the actual hunt. Those peripheral things only matter when a game is sufficiently popular, though.

Sony need to make the free games on the store front, I told my coworker to get Patapon but she didn't know about it and didn't know where the free games are.

Awful-5 is shitty studio with DC2 as their only good game, but I was really interested in Ushiro since it got that Persona vibe.

I don't believe that the game transformed to Time Travelers because aside from one character design there is nothing similar between the two.

But oh well,Awful-5 will most likely make a horrible game anyway so I guess nothing of value was lost.

To Vita sales in Japan

the situation is still grim, this sale spike wont last any longer, Vita need a steady stream of games but the upcoming releases are very few.

Same here. I havent got a chance to play it yet, but hey it was basically free. Just seen EDF is on sale. Thinking of picking that up too.

need to spend $8 to bring me to over $100 for that $20. what should I get?
was thinking of picking up two PSM games
Switch Galaxy
Haunted House (?)

where is my heart

Derp, didn't see it listed as pre-order.

Also, Vita sold 62k last week in Japan! Hopefully Soul Sacrifice keeps the numbers up.

really?! darn! i guessed 68k... considered 62...hmmm now for this week......IF places restock fully ( which i dont think they will) i'm going to say 70k units....ramping up the optimism from my last guess... i think SS+price cut will move more than PSO2+ price cut did.

Okay, so I'm back from the Soul Sacrifice Pre-launch live stream show thingy. I think I've seen every monster that this game has now (except maybe the final boss). Saw some larger/different areas too. Really hope it does well in Japan. It just looks more impressive everytime I see it :D

Harpy Cake!! >

So if I take out my 16 gig card and switch to my 8 gig will I lose all my wallpapers/bubble placement and everything? Will they return if I put the 16 gig back in? IE- Does it save it for each card?

Damn, Time Travelers looks very interesting. The graphics sucks (terrible framerate), but the story looks cool.

Any hope for an US release?

Bought Reality Fighters out of morbid curiosity for 3.80€ (so for about $5) and I haven't been able to put it down during these last couple of hours. It certainly fits in the category of games that I know are bad, but I feel like it succeeds in what it's aiming at. It's a very accessible fighting game - nothing close to the depth of other games in the genre like UMVC3 and Mortal Kombat (both of which I absolutely adore) - but I actually find it pretty fun beating odd looking dudes with a guy who shares awfully lot of resemblance to yours truly.

Also bought Shinobido for dirty cheap. Looking forward to playing it - liked Tenchu 2 back in the day despite being bad at stealth games.

think it's possible to plat plants vs zombies in a week?

whats the worst/hardest/longest trophies to acquire (edit: in PvZ)

edit: im currently halfway through my 2nd playthrough during normal night yard.

For me, worst is Montezuma Blitz. One requires -100 hours- of gameplay in an awful Bejeweled clone. And I hate Bejeweled. Hardest anything in Ninja Gaiden. Longest is Wake Up Club, which takes a -year-, minimum.

thanks - i was referring specifically to PvZ though

I probably got the Game Center equivalent of a platinum in the iPad version in a week, so it's possible.

thanks my friend. did you manage sneak in a PSN card when picking up baby supplies?

So, I'm not sure if I want to get that Chess thing since it's only $3. I may hold off and just get the GT5
or DOA5
DLC like I planned on doing later this month. :/

I'm going to get 10$ back by buying all the DOA5 DLC anyway, so I see that 10$ as going towards Pure Chess, in a way.

Actually wait, I put the free PlayStation 4 10$ thing towards the latest DOA5 bikini DLC before it expired. So I guess I'm buying Pure Chess out right. It's hard to keep track of free money. Point being, if a game costs less than a sandwich, I'm prone to buying it.

Went onto the store expecting tons of free games, and I only saw the anniversary stuff ;( I want Disgaea! I still haven't beaten Persona tho.

I just really like this Germinator demo. I tried to look for a "bubble shooter" type game of comparable quality on iOS but I couldn't find anything remotely as nice in production quality. I might have to seriously consider getting it, because it's clear that there's not a cheap alternative that's really good quality on iOS or Android.

Edit: Bought hehe

I have to give it up to Sony...

In the past 2 weeks I've gotten:

Plants Vs Zombies*
FF7
Dissidia 012
Beyond Good & Evil HD
Wild Arms
Patapon
MM: Maverick Hunter*
Spec Ops: The Line*
Oddworld: Strangers Wrath

All these games man... I don't see Microsoft or Nintendo doing this (not console war banter, just saying)

*You can get these for pretty much 17.99 or even a free PS+ trial if you have one...

I only have two 4GB cards.... Fucking hell

I have no clue what XSEED was thinking by localizing VK3 over the two Legend of Heroes games and Senran Kagura. Seems like a wasted opportunity to me.

VK3- game developed by Marvelous
Xseed - subsidiary of marvelous

SK might be too risky or require too many edits for western release.

Does Konami really develop anything anymore except those soccer/baseball games that are waning in popularity with each passing entry, and whatever KojiPro are digging their heels with?

They now develop muscles, healthy lifestyles and self confidence.

Social games, Animal Crossing clone, and the odd Suikoden developed by unpaid interns.

Some of the survival ones can take some experimentation (or reading guides) but the only one that can be truly frustrating is the one that's purely luck based - spin three diamonds in the fruit machine minigame.

I've been lucky enough to get it fairly quickly each time, but I know some people that waited and waited for it to pop, long after they had every other trophy in the game.

How do you get the vita to stop auto shutting down after a few minutes? Im trying to download wild arms and sfxt, but the damn thing keeps shutting down after 10 min and whenever I check up on it I have to resume it again. Its conencted to a power cord too, so there's no reason why I should have no control over this function.
