Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | March 2013 | Carving an Independent niche

ill be grabbing DOA+ as soon as it hits psn. hoping for some free outfits for early buy as id rather put my balls in a vice then goto gamestop

Last December, an event coordinator on IGN's fighting game league thingy said it's in development and adds six new characters. Who knows if it's been canceled since then, though.

DOA5+ English trailer. Looks even better in motion

This game highlights what a lazy production SFxT ended up being. Yes, cross-play is good, but seriously, not even circle shadows? The game looks like ass compared to even Marvel.

I laughed with the swipe up to tap combo to the panties.

I like fighting games, but I'm awful at them. What do you mean by accessible? Combos that are easy to perform would be ideal.
Very little in the way of complex directional inputs. It's more about stringing moves together and effectively reading your opponent.

And boobs.

Someone mentioned a while ago that Sony should buy MarvelousAQL if Soul Sacrifice is a success, and that's unlikely. MAQL is too big, and while Sony can buy them I'm not sure MAQL's share holders would like it. Their biggest franchises are Harvest Moon, and Rune Factory. Both of which do not sell very well on PlayStation platforms.

There hasn't even been a true Rune Factory for PS platforms except for the Oceans port, and that sold better on PS3 than it did on Wii. The PS Harvest Moons were popular too, though it's unfair to use A Wonderful World as a barometer for popularity since that was a rerelease of a GC game.

Mind, I'm not saying they should buy Marvelous, that'd be silly. They should moneyhat a few more games though!

I'm interested to see if PS+ EU giving DoA5 on the PS3 for free turns out to be a good or bad thing regarding Vita sales of the game.

Personally I was going to buy the Vita version and am loving the PS3 version, but now I'm considering using that cash for another game since I already have one version of it.

still not sure if I should go digital with this or get a copy from Amazon.

I think it will be bad for DOA5+ sales numbers.

Go digital - it's a game that will be a mainstay on your home screen for years to come. You don't want to have to switch it in and out to accommodate whatever replay valueless flavor of the month happens to next capture your fancy.

You will always return to DOA5.

On one hand, I'm glad I'll have a larger pool of players to play online with. On the other, I'm pissed that they marginalized the Vita release by giving away the basically identical PS3 version for free.

It makes the idea of spending $40 on a small-screen version seem ridiculous.

For the localization, they better get rid of those silly looking palms. First of all, mine aren't pale-white, so that alone takes me out of the game. Second of all, they look cheesy and visually inconsistent with the rest of the UI.

I hope the game does well enough for Sega to bring PSO2 over, but it still looks $20 too expensive in my opinion.

That's incredible stupid.

My post from the official thread:

Turn-based Challenge Mode now available (Asynchonous message play - Friends only. Supported on both Wi-Fi and 3G)

4-player stroke mode multiplayer rooms now available
Game Balance adjustments (Impact zone on tee shot now gives more room for error - based on impact stat)
New Visual Lobby online
*New items available (3 new courses and characters Gloria, Kat and Erika)
Changes to how you get items (?)
Real tournament award specifications changed
Daily International Tournament specifications changed
Other fixes

* Placeholders - they're not purchasable yet.

The first one is the biggie. Can't believe it's taken this long :P

WAIT! We are just getting asynchronous play now? I'm very sure Sony advertised that from day one of the Vita being available.

I dont know about 5, but in general DOA is broken as fuck. Little to no strategy involved and pure gimmicks. That means that someone who has no idea what the fuck he's doing still has a chance to beat someone that actually plays the game.

Making the PS3 version free wasn't enough, apparently. Tecmo really wants to ensure that no one buys DOA5+ by making its demo OVER THE TOP AWESOME.

The Dead or Alive 5 Plus demo will be released close to the launch of the full game, Tecmo Koei say. You’ll be able to try out the game’s Touch Fight mode while playing as Kasumi, Hayabusa, Eliot, or Tina. Costumes are unlockable in the demo as well, and your progress can be transferred to the full version of the game.

Additionally, the demo will also be compatible with the PlayStation 3 version of Dead or Alive 5, just like the full game, and will allow for cross-platform battles between the two versions. You’ll have eight stages to fight on in the demo—Scramble, The Show, The Tiger Show, Coming Soon, Zack Island, Dead or Alive, Arrival, and Dojo.

Eight stages!? If they don't have a play limit for online matches, I can see most casuals being satisfied with the demo alone

You will always return to DOA5.

well I sold my PS3 copy when they announced 5+ so yeah I know i'll return.

I'm just thinking the cart version might have faster loading time(5 loading times is the worst in the series so you can't blame me for thinking about that)

Well at this point it should be obvious to Marvelous that supporting Vita is profitable without more incentives from Sony ;)

Sony now should be bribing Namco for Vesperia/Graces/Xilia ports

DOA5 is perfect for guys like us, combos are easy to perform and the game does a great job of guiding you through the moves. It's loads of fun, buy with confidence.

AC: Rising Phoenix??

Edit: welp, clearly im late.

Still, what should we expect? If they were happy with first game sales, chances are this one will be decent, eh?

Loading times for the digital version look near instant.

Though I'm assuming that they wouldn't waste money producing carts for an alpha build.

SEGA is funny and kinda a very stupid company, so Diva F localization for PS3 only when they can get the Vita version and put it on PSN (it will cost them almost nothing).

That is good enough.

digital it is then, thanks for the link too.

This I can agree with you on. Very stupid and borderline ignorant about the digital viability of Vita PSN.

Much as I'd love to see it localized at all, $40 Digital vs ~$55 physical import. The game is import friendly as is..really wish digital-only wouldn't become a trend :(

Certification and localization playtesting are very expensive. After failed risks like Yakuza and Binary Domain, Sega has every reason to be extremely discriminating in its localization choices.

PS3 evidently has enough potential consumers for such a niche product. I'm sure it'll bomb anyway, though.

Asynchronous play in this game was promised early on and it is very late, yes. In general though, it has been around (WipEout 2048 (I think?), Pure Chess as early examples).

Probably the biggest surprise is that Async play in Everybody's Golf/Hot Shots Golf seems to be EU/US exclusive at the moment. This is a feature that Japan doesn't have.

What sold better? Diva F Vita or PS3. Just wondering what else could be the basis of their decision outside of user base.

lol I just noticed Denzel is banned

PDF just came out, so I'd wait for sales to pop up next week and compare first week sales. It's also got more content, but the content in F can be bought as DLC for f(Vita version).

PS3 version just came out.

As a note, however, the Vita sales were disappointing according to the developers. They tweeted not long after the game came out that "Sales numbers have come in... At this rate, [Project Diva]f2 might be a little difficult. We did use too much money developing [Project Diva]f..."

It sold a bit over 150k and gave Vita quite a boost, but hey, it's a harsh reality that even 100k+ might not cut it anymore when you have budgets multiple times (3x based on anecdotal stuff) what you see on PSP or 3DS.

It actually did 200k physically. SEGA expected to sell 250k of the game, and based on their fiscal numbers (which would include PSN + HK numbers), they did.

SO is there any reason to use the NEAR function? Or is it basically crap?

I think it is cool just to see people in my area actually owning/playing a vita (I live in fairly rural area). But beyond that it mine as well be crap I suppose...

I was referring to the first-week sales, which is what the developers were reacting to.

Didn't know it had some legs, so that's good to hear.

NGS2+ had the Gamestop pre-order costumes as early buy bonus on PSN. I have to imagine the same will occur with DOA.

Great, now I'm trying to decide whether I want EDF while it's on sale this week, DOA5+ in 2 weeks, or both. At this rate, I might have to sell my Hyrule Historia LE to cover expenses. :(

I have two Hyrule Historia LEs.

I like being able to see what other people are playing. I also use it for Treasure Park sheets. But other than that, no real purpose it seems. You're supposed to be able to exchange game items as presents, but few games I own implement this.

I'm logged into my US account for the next few weeks while I play FFVIII. This game looks ridiculously good for its age.

Vita screen is a Phoenix Down for PSX games.

Also checked out P4G. Goddamn that's a pretty game!

Zelda fans with Vita should get Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure.

VIII has always looked amazing. I remember when it first came out, that shit looked ahead of its time. Especially the cinematics. The detail they were able to put into it still shows now, especially so on a handheld.

OK, I just counted and I have 41 games in and around my Vita. Seven of those games are on cards. I love my Vita. I would probably make love to and sex up my Vita if it wasn't a portable, inanimate object.

Much more so on a handheld! I actually started FFVIII on a 50" plasma and my first thought was UGH, but then I loaded the same game on Vita and my first thought was WOW.

Been spending some quality time with my Vita lately. My Xbox 360 DVD Drive died, so my Vita has become my main gaming fix for now. It's been nice to actually be forced to spend a bit more time with the system. It's really opened me up to it.

Persona 4 is fabulous. I worry it's going to get a little bit techy on me later on with fusing personas etc. I'm kinda just winging it at the moment, but some of the in depth threads I hear about "make sure you fuse these two, don't fuse these two etc" always give me that worry that I'll kinda screw up and ruin 20 hours of progress. A little un-aware of when to upgrade my characters armour/swords etc as well, but the story line and social aspects are so well done.

Hopelessly addicted to Virtua tennis as well. That feels like an old school sega joint right there. A fabulous game.

On the same sports kick I've got Everybody's Golf, and bought MLB 13 (Even though I'm british and know nothing about baseball). MLB is a little dry so far, but I'm getting into it.

I'm really a fan of the Vita now rather than it being more of a passing acquaintance. PS+ has helped with that as well. I'm loving it.

Don't worry about experimenting with fusion. You can always register your Personas before fusing so that even if you end up with a bad fusion result, you can always buy back the Persona with all of its stats and skills intact.

If you are playing on Normal or even Hard, you shouldn't need to worry about micromaging your Personas outside of get stuff that's high level w/ awesome abilities and get a diversity of them. Money is all over the place, just upgrade your gear as it unlocks from the shop and you'll be able to do all the content in the game.

Very Hard is when you really have to get techy with your Persona development.

As for how good PSX games look on the Vita, it wasn't until I got my Vita that I truly found a worthy successor to PSOne+LCD screen.
