Looks like the 3DS version will take up 14,275 blocks if you're going the download route.
(Just upgraded to 32GB, whew!)
So that is nearly 1.8GB. I have like 100,000 blocks available, so I think I'm good.

So Oichi (?) claims that Gigginox is popular with women in Japan. Is that true? I don't think I've ever seen any Gigginox fanart. Except the one where Giggi and Khezu are musclemen in speedos.

Someone remind me how previous MHs handled this, I forgot - will the language be selectable in the full game? I don't want to play in German.

You know, based on what Gigginox looks like, I'd have figured it would've been more popular with guys...So Oichi (?) claims that Gigginox is popular with women in Japan. Is that true? I don't think I've ever seen any Gigginox fanart. Except the one where Giggi and Khezu are musclemen in speedos.

Very end game indeedhttp://www.mh3-ultimate.com/page/Armor+Skills
EdgeMaster seems ridiculous; whatever set gives that is going to be a staple for endgame, I bet

That's awesome
Could you do those for the 3DS cases, too?

Ahem. I love the "Baleful Gigginox" name.
Yes, masks and skills, no armor though.

I agree.
Thats hilarious. Where's rule 34 when you need it?
How does progression work? Can you be playing along and then after 10 hours think "shit, shouldn't have done ______" because I'm screwed.

Shit! I've ran out of money, blew my game money of that stupid fucking Sim City! Payday is likely the 22nd, but probably 12:00 at night, when do you think the downloadable will be available?
They confirmed the eShop version will be available at midnight on the 19th (launch day).
EU or US? I'm in South Africa (EU)

I'm in Canada, so NA. For EU it is the 22nd, and it should also be midnight.
Cool bananas, thanks man, any news on the download size?

It's entirely mission-based, so once you unlock a mission, it stays unlocked.
You can repeat anything for unlimited times so there is no way of this occuring.
Like others have said, you can't really "waste" your time. The more time you spend playing, the better you get. And saves are made between quests.
The only time you might "regret" something is if you use an incredibly rare piece of loot to forge a weapon/armor that you don't want, and then save over that file. ~_~
There's no talent trees or anything, which is what you seem to be referring to.
Progression in terms of content:
1. You've got a bunch of missions with a certain star rating, you can repeat the missions as many times as you want
2. If you clear certain ones you open up an 'urgent' mission, which will be a monster from the next tier of missions. Once you beat it, you open up that tier.
3. Continue until you get to the highest tier. After that you unlock high rank, which has a new set of mission tiers. It features harder versions of those monsters, some new monsters, and new gear sets for everything. Online goes even further with G-rank which has even MORE new gear sets and monsters.
Progression in terms of your character is done entirely via gear. Defense and elemental resistances are a factor, but the big thing is armor skills. You get a certain number of points towards a skill on each piece of armor and once you reach a certain threshold (usually +10) you gain that skill. An example would be Earplugs which makes you immune to normal monster roars (which stun you temporarily). For Earplugs if you raise it further to +15 you become immune to ALL monster roars including the super loud ones.
You can make and keep pretty much all the weapons and armor sets you want. Only limitation is how many times you're willing to kill a monster to get more parts in order to do so (and I suppose box space but you get a LOT of space). You MIGHT regret wasting a rare material on a weapon you don't use much, but that's no big deal.
The real 'progression' though, is your own skill and experience. It's why I usually don't mind 'grinding' in this game, to me it's just practice.
Fantastic, thanks for all the info! I'll be picking up two copies of this for the 3DS as I want my girl to play with me. How does that work if one of us gets pretty far ahead? Like say, I grind on the game for 30 hours, she just starts and we start playing together, can I go back and 'help' her with other monsters and such? Will I make it trivial?

Do you think there would be a real difference between the 3DS and WiiU sizes?
They confirmed the eShop version will be available at midnight on the 19th (launch day).
Oh sorry, completely forgot there was a Wii U version too lol. The Wii U version is definitely bigger. I think the size of the size is just below 7GB, I'll edit my post with the correct size after.
EDIT: On Wii U, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a 6.07GB download.
Minute one purchase!
Dearest Canadian friend, no need to apologize, a thousand thank yous and may your family have plentiful wealth and children.

whatEither that or start a girl character.
Yeah, that's kinda unavoidable, especially if you manage to get higher-ranked gear and use it on those earlier missions.
What set is that? Looks like Bnahabra, but with additional pieces. G rank Bnahabra? They have different armor sets! Sometimes you just need to be a pretty butterfly.

Certainly looks like it. Oh, and poison bombs make farming insects a breeze. Not sure what it's called, but it's made out of bug pieces (the kind you find in bushes and such). In P3rd it was a low rank set with awesome skills, but was a huge pain in the ass to get. I used it for basically the entire game because it looked so badass.
I have no idea what the stats are in 3U, but there's a Swallowtail/Butterfly armor listed under rare 5 and rare 9 stuff. So that must be it.
Funny, I don't think he realizes how good a choice that first picture (they're fighting a boss named Brutallus in the Sunwell) was to demonstrate the difference between WoW raiding and Monster Hunter. Brutallus was a pure RNG + gear check fight with no skill involved - wiping because your tank wasn't lucky enough to get a shield off of a previous boss was a common occurrence. Back when I used to actively raid (sunwell was basically where I stopped) I used to jokingly suggest that all our members should be forced to play Monster Hunter as training. Coincidentally the ones that did play MH, never died to stupid shit.
Also, TERA did a pretty good job of translating a MH-like combat system to an MMORPG but man there's just nothing fun to do in that game at max level. Still, the fights where it allowed you to substitute gear with skill to a certain degree were great. Tank died at 20%? Just dodge the boss' attacks.
Is this game any fun when played single player? I'm not going to be able to play this with anyone else if I do end up buying it. And the demo was baffling--I hit the boss with a sword for 10+ minutes without killing it.
