Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | March 2013 | Carving an Independent niche

so I've downloaded Sigma 2+ and although its quite playable, the dynamic resolution is pretty jarring. I don't care if there is a tad bit slowdown, just don't reduce the resolution and turn off AA. Hope Team Ninja can provide us the option although the reality is .. not going to happen.

EDIT: This has to be a bug. Even coming out of menus and during item pickups does the resolution shift. When there are no enemies around, hitting triangle to power up will drop the resolution. That's not kosher ...

Are you playing on your NA account? what level have you gotten to and what side are you leaning toward?

Yes, just popped the cart and worked fine. I am only at level 3ish on each, going more on the saving side. I am still in Tokyo and there is no good wireless at the hotel.

What? That seems odd. Japan is usually renowned for its blazing internet that makes US connections look like dialup. I'm surprised the Hotel doesn't have wireless or something to jack into that. :\

Wow... Hot Shots Golf WI was already my #1 Vita game and tournament Slot Mode from the new update has made it even better.

What a roller-coaster ride.

just bought dokuro....had to buy something to get me away from the sim city threads before i say something thatll get me banned.
hope its good!

What's that?

You play in a tournament and before each and every tee shot, you pull a slot machine to see what conditions are set for that hole for you only ... could be tee shot +50 yards, could be gale force winds, could be rough +2, could be tornado hole (think mega cup but much bigger), could be impossible pin etc etc.

Sometimes you pull the slot machine twice for two conditions that occur. (Tornado hole + 100% PI chance for example)

Because everyone else has their own unique conditions set for every hole, it makes for a lot of hilarious and frustrating scenarios....

Depending on if you use a guide or how the puzzles click, anywhere from like 6-10 hours? Also depends on if you want to platinum it.
If it's still on sale, buy it NOW.

Have you platinumed it? And alright, I'll get it. I was thinking about getting Knytt but this seems a little better. The Knytt demo was ok but I feel like I would get bored before I beat it.

So you two recommend I get it? How long is it?

There are around 140ish levels. I took me a while to complete it, I was running for the platinum though.

I currently playing Knytt right now, it's a very unique game and I like it but it's not for everyone. Dokuro is very linear an rigid. Knytt is 100% exploration, you'll get lost a lot, you'll simply drop what you were doing in order to do something else, etc. You might end very far away from where you planning to go in the first place. That is a very charming quality IMHO it feels very organic as a game and not that much "gamey" like most current games that follow a very strict pattern of small challenge -> reward and repeat that for the rest of the game.

Dokuro is like that, but somehow manages to keep you engaged, I really loved the MC by the end of the game. Something I can't say for most games.

Well... you can kind of move their ultimate position, but no way to move all bubbles on a page at once.

If you go into edit/arrange mode, you can add pages in between and stuff, which will help you do less moving of bubbles if you just want a page to be lower in the chain.

I really hope we get a system update that

1. Increases the limit on the number of pages
2. Saves bubble location to system memory instead of to the memory card

Saves bubble location, saves backgrounds/wallpapers, saves Wi-Fi info, and saves Account info -only- to the card.

A few weeks back I had an internet outage, and turned to my Vita for some amusement for the time being. I was on my Hong Kong account for Monster Monpiece and wanted to switch over to my US account now that I had plenty of time to get absorbed into Persona 4, so I did the system reset and popped in my US card. Opted out of entering my Wi-Fi info, for obvious reasons.

And then was hit with the realization that if you don't verify your account online, that I was locked out of using the memory card -at all- without formatting it. My Vita was a brick until I got back online.

Awful :(

The Vita version of Hungry Giraffe is pretty great. Not that different to the minis version, but the unlockable upgrades are a nice extra. The motion controls are quite responsive, but the game's way more playable with the left stick.

edit: Oh right, I guess no one else knows the game was released on European PSN this week for 2.95€. It was added after the regular update due to SCEE forgetting to put it up. Don't know if you can buy it directly with a Vita yet, but it's available on the webstore and after that you can just use the download list on Vita.

UGHHHH now I want to get both. -__- I did enjoy Knytt I just don't want to have a guide with me every time I play it.

Also, dunno how I feel about DOA5 right now. I got it from UK PS+ and I'm getting WHHHOOOOOOPED in it. Its not as accessible as MK, or at least doesn't feel like it. Is there a way to change the way the combo menu is set up? I hate it when it says Kick+kick+kick+punch instead of circle+circle...etc.

Are you free to map what ever controls you want for PSP games to the right stick of the Vita? Also is it a hassle to play out of region games? I have a friend looking to off-load his Vita and was thinking of using it to play all of those PSP Monster Hunter games.

As much as I love the Laughing Jackal guys, I was sort of disappointed that they are charging for it. It essentially seems to be the free iOS version simply ported to Vita.

I realize they actually made the free iOS pay a couple months ago, because they weren't making enough money off the in app purchases. But even so, they only raised the price to 99 cents, I think.

This is literally the 3rd version of the game they are putting on Sony portables - the Minis version, the PS Mobile version, and now a native Vita version. How many times do they want people to pay for the same game?

The way my friend described DoA when I asked him to compare the series to other fighters:
"I guess VF, but it's more mash friendly. P, K, G buttons... It's basically a sped up VF with big tits."

Not sure on your question, I just wanted an excuse to post that statement on DoA. :)

I played MHFU on Vita... you can map the camera to the right stick, it's pretty customizable.
As for region stuff? Just matters what region the account you have on the Vita is. Have a US account? You can play the US PSP/PSOne games. Have a EU account? EU PSP/PSOne games. Guess how it works for Japan.

But can I switch any time I want? Can I play MLB The Show, go to the settings menu, switch to Japanese, and play Monster Hunter Portable 3rd?

BTW, if you guys want a dungeon crawler on Vita get the Untold Legends games. I got one when it was on sale a couple of months ago. Now they're $15 but I still think they're worth it if you don't want to pay Gameloft $30 for an iOS game. Playing that game on the Vita is a lot of fun.

((DOA5 is so japanese in nature, it hurts. XD))

Untold Legends isn't on the EU store. :(

Anyone know if there are any PSP dungeon crawlers on the EU store?

No, you can only have one account per memory card. As such, you either need to wipe out the info in your single memory card, or restore the Vita to put in another card.

Since the sale is on, I want to get one of these games;

Street Fighter X Tekken

Blazblue Continuum Shift

Mavel VS Capcom

Which one do you guys recommend?

I have never played blazblue before, but I have played similar ones such as Guilty Gear and KoF. Im looking for a decent single player mode, lots of characters and just fun all around.

Same question, but with another added on to it: Since we are both talking about single player fighters, would it just be better to wait for a sale on Mortal Kombat instead of the above ones? I'm essentially just looking for the best single player fighter on the Vita - I never play any because I'm not big on the multiplayer aspects.

Shiiiieeet. I completely forgot about Mortal Kombat on vita. Fuck, I might just get that.

mortal kombat has a lot of stuff to do like a challange tower
blazeblu has a lot to do with a lengthy story (main story is a few hours and every character has their own story) as well as extras that take a while like the one you are digging down floors.

both are great for single player play, if you are looking to just have fun but aren't great at fighters blazeblue choosing stylish controls will be easy to play with (for the modes that support it) If you aren't good at fighters you likely won't beat the story to MK even on the easiest settings. MK is pretty easy to play in general still though as you just need to figure out 2-3 moves to be effective.

Personally I enjoyed my time with blazblue more than MK but both were time well spent. I haven't played the other two you asked about because I have issues getting into capcom fighters in general, I just don't find them fun.

Hmm odd but it seems to have friend invite which would go some way to alleviating no lobby match right? Good news tho is no online pass! Cheap import here I come

Honestly I've gotten a bit jaded with Capcom fighters - Blazblue is a GREAT breath of fresh air. I platinum'ed the original on PS3, the story is pretty great and actually substantial compared to most fighters - although it can get a bit convoluted here and there. Plus it looks gorgeous on that handheld. It's more of a challenging fighter though, compared to SF x T or MvC3, in my opinion.

I wouldn't touch MK with a ten foot pole, but I usually can't stand western fighting games. The console one was decent but I mainly only enjoyed it for the hyper realism - aren't the graphics pretty terrible on the Vita version?

Also I'm totally rocking a Salvatore avatar both on PSN and now on 'Gaf in preparation for when Disgaea goes free on Vita - can't wait!! I've been wanting to get into the franchise and I'm just going to start with the Vita one since it's my main platform to game on now.

What's that Online Dojo thing?
It's the new training mode. The console versions are getting it through a patch.

Seems they've put so much content into the demo that they had some second thoughts

Too bad an awesome demo doesn't redeem a half-baked final product.

if you set blazblue to the easiest setting and play with stylish controls it's a very very very very easy fighter lol.

so much so that I play the first 400 depth or so watching tv and not looking at the screen on the psp version of the game (i have the one on the vita on the ps3 instead as I wanted the LE but it seems to hold true with that one too :P)

Yeah but stylish controls are cheating :P Plus score attack mode crushed my soul - having to keep trying and trying and trying.. although I'm not like a HARDCORE fighting game player, I am a big fan - have been my whole life. I just don't study them and break them down like some of my friends do - they literally study fighters and learn them, etc. I just play 'em for fun :P

For me, from easiest to hardest I'd probably rank it UMvC3, SFxT, and finally Blazblue.

if stylish is cheating i see no problem cheating as it just feels so damn good lol.

Is it that big a deal? I honestly dunno.
Guess we cant have them spoiling us with too much awesome! Look at what all the awesome did to sim city servers
No lobbies in an online fighter means you can only fight randomly-selected opponents. Invites help somewhat, but you don't get online chat, a sense of community, or (most importantly) that arcade-style rush from long winning streaks.

Though without lobbies, I wonder what the hell "Spectator Mode" is for...
