Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | March 2013 | Carving an Independent niche

So, a running tab on apps that were announced but are MIA:

- Crackle (especially embarrassing given Sony owns this)
- Crunchy Roll
- Epix (Supposedly this "Spring")
- Hulu Plus

Top of the page: Buy everything, as long as it's not made by Capcom.

I want to subscribe to playstation plus, but does anyone have a list of the free games available at the moment? (Like the instant game collection)

I've researched as much as I can and read that certain free titles are only available for a limited time and get phased out for other titles the following month. With that said, are there some free games that never get phased out?
As long as you set off the download while on ps+ (you can cancel straight away) the game is on your list as free as long so you are a ps+ member.

Example
Uncharted is free on plus.
I download and play it
Sony take uncharted off ps+.
I can still play it or even delete and re download it.
New members can't get stuff that was free before they were members unless it goes up on ps+ again.

I thought Hulu Plus was announced too?

Crackle seriously is really bad, that app was announced back at CES 2012 by Hirai. Sony owns that, where is it? lol

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Crackle had a dedicated app on 360 before PS3 ...

Hey, Marvel 3 isn't bad! Just lack of cross-play!

Also Corrosive: Playstation All-Stars Bomba Royal's singleplayer is boring as fuck, or is it just me?

That's what happens when every round takes 3 minutes to complete instead of making all the matches stock or FT3 like in the later arcade matches. Completely boneheaded design decision.

Okay, so about PS+...

How does the "free" games thing work? Do I have access to all of the games offered so long as I renew the sub, or does one only have access to the games currently in rotation?

You can access all of them as long as you are subbed.

You have to have them in you download list though, you can't go back to previously offered games if you missed them.

So, even the ones that go "out of rotation" as long as I was already subbing when they were first introduced? And if I do not renew the subscription for, say, a month, then do I regain access to the same set of games I had prior, or do I have to "rebuild" the library with new featured games?

As long as you've confirmed your "free" purchase before and still have a PS+ subscription, you will be able to redownload the game even after you let your subscription lapse for a period of time.

Okay, cool. And I was referring specifically to the "instant game collection" titles, not the discounts, but I figure you caught that :p

Edit: Thanks for the replies!

Debating if I should sub now or wait...I'd like to take advantage of the $10 credit, but I already have Gravity Rush :\

The bolded. As long as you claimed the "free" games when they were available (by putting them on your download list), you'll always have access to them even when they're cycled out.

If you're in North America, get it for Disgaea 3! :D

When does that come into rotation? That's kind of the reason I'm interested now. Also, are all of the games listed under "instant game collection" free games, or is it a mix of better discounts and free games?

Edit: Wow, stupid question, nevermind.

I appreciate your patience :)

Okay, so PS+ = 5 new free games across Vita and PS3 each month.

Probably going to do a three-month sub and see how much I use it (currently playing P4, so the results might be a bit unrepresentative...).

With that, would you guys recommend either BlazBlue or Orgarhythm for a cheap download? I already have Sine Mora (i.e., PC version) and Dokuro.

So I caved and ended up buying SFxT. I blame my friend for letting me play it on his Vita. My sales resistance was just reduced to zero after that. Downloading it right now.

BlazBlue, definitely. It's beautiful and very playable on the Vita.

I'd recommend playing the Orgarhythm demo first before buying. The mechanics might not be for everyone's taste.

PS+ is pretty worth it, but it really depends on what's coming out. Thankfully, NA is now providing a monthly outlook and telling you what you'll get that month at the start of each month instead of... the day before the update hits.

As for which you should get between those two, easily Blazblue if you have the space. It's huuuuge.

I've heard more good things about Blazblue, but keep in mind it is a big file (something like 3.3GB). By the way, PS+ is EASILY worth if for the discounts alone if you buys games fairly regularly. Even without the free games I've made my money back and then some in discounts. Then you have things like cloud storage for saves and automatic downloading of updates overnight, and it's just incredible.

I have 16GB and I can make space. I have a bunch of PSP games that I have downloaded that I haven't played in ages. Probably delete most of them for the time being and just keep P3P, Corpse Party, and FFT on hand. iirc, PSP saves are stored separately from the game bubbles, yes?

The discounts never really attracted me since I'm used to Steam sales (I have to pay for 50% discounts? lol), but I didn't realize that you keep all free games that you collect while you are a member so long as you sub. That is worth $50 a year.

Yep! PSP and PS1 games are saved under "Application Data Management" in Settings.

I've heard the Steam argument a lot, but the simple fact is that this isn't Steam. You can't get your PS3 and Vita games heavily discounted because of the fact that you are used to having your games discounted on Steam. I use Steam and I've gotten great deals on it, but that doesn't happen on PSN and XBLA, so for me, having heavily discounted games like on Steam makes Plus easily worth it.

That may be true, but the discounts alone have not attracted me to PS+ in the past. However, free Disgaea 3 is something I will pay for...indirectly ;)

Fair enough. I wouldn't subscribe to it if it ONLY had discounts. That's a big part of it for me, but it's a combination of all of its features that makes it so awesome.

The FT3 is actually the bad part (more so than the boring gameplay): Level to 3 as quick as you can. You win. *yawn* Maybe in multiplayer against Legendary bots it's fun but Heroic and Legend has been that while avoiding dying as best as you can.

But really, the "combat" just doesn't grab me. It's button-mashing to build meter. Similar to Smash's "mashing A until you can mash B because percent/health says you can 'smash' them now. LOLZ"

I knew I wasn't going to like it, but well it was $20 and I got both versions so I might as well grind the achievements that I can get without touching online out of it. But the offline and gameplay is just so BORING and assy. :/

Oh, definitely. I would have subscribed a while ago if I had known that you can amass a library rather than being stuck with whatever gets rotated in on a monthly basis.

So your main reason for being interested in PS+ right now is Disgaea 3? I like you already.

Well, I had a physical copy of the game at one point, but I ended up selling it since I wasn't really playing it. Now I have physical copies of Gravity Rush, Metal Gear Solid HD, and Persona 4. Persona 4 is really my first foray into Vita games...I've had one since last April, but I played PSP games exclusively for months.

I have a physical copy of Disgaea 3 too, which I bought only because I had a puny 8 GB card at the time. Having a digital version would be awesome, especially since I can't imagine Hatsune Miku Project Diva f will be leaving my Vita game slot anytime soon.

Glad to see you're playing (and hopefully enjoying) Persona 4, BTW. :)

Completed all 36 single player missions on unit 13. What a perfect handheld game. Missions are around 15 minutes long so I play a mission while on the train, and just pop in every now and then while watching tv and complete a mission or 2. Don't think I have the patience to run through every mission for the 5 star rating, but it was great the first time through.

Congrats man

Loved it and definitely one of the more satisfying Platinums I've gotten

Definitely! I love Persona 3 and Atlus games in general, so that helps :)

what game is this? hahaha

Haunt the House: Terrortown

You play as various ghosts who need to rid four locations of people. There are four locations with 20 people each, you possess items and furniture to scare them. You need to be careful how you do so, if you scare to much they can commit suicide from window jumping lol. At the end you are scored based on time, the hidden ghost relatives found and how many people ran away or died.

Was really close to getting a second Vita today. Couldn't decide between Red and Silver...

One of the best things about Tokyo is the crazy amount of Vita accessories here.

SOOOO MANY CASES!!!
