One month from today: BioShock Infinite

i hope you can turn off the easy mode pre order buffs.
Me too, it's the one thing that's keeping me from preordering it (though I'll just do it anyways if it gets me free X-COM).

I hate the idea of having the natural progression ruined for me, oftentimes the best part of these games is the beginning when you have to make do with the few things you have, before you get around mix maxing everything.

Sounds like you're ripe for 1999 mode (assuming it delivers).

Fine Hams Novels Abound

Since I'm being avatar quoted up in here, and to make amends for that post, here's the image you asked about earlier, finally found it.

This is the guy's DeviantArt.

I'm starting to wonder if I shoulda gone with Sulu.

You look at glaring examples like EA, and it's obvious that some companies simply don't have any respect for their customers to begin with. Thinking ill of our mental capacity is beside the point, I think. We're meat bags with wallets and feet to them, they couldn't care less what we think or feel as long as they can find a reliable way to get the feet moving in their direction, and certain individuals or committees have the power necessary to force anything into a project that they perceive correlates to increased wallets or increased moving feet.

The only reason they are making dumbed down games is because people are buying them. The problem is that gamers want what's new even if it's not what they would really rather be playing. It's not because a bunch of us are idiots, it's because a bunch of us get bored easily, or we're impatient, or we have a lot of disposable income and don't give a fuck, or we have jobs that make us care more about escapism than challenge. I know I've had 2 or 3 80 hour weeks back to back this past year, and when I got home after a 16 hour day I couldn't give two shits about whether Dishonored had objectively worse stealth mechanics than Deus Ex, I just wanted to run some bastard's neck through for a few minutes before going to sleep.

The hard truth is that in order to affect the change many of us would want in the industry, we need to vote intelligently with our wallets. We need to be honest with ourselves though about how hard that is, or whether we really care enough. Would you really rather go 2 years not playing anything new if it was sending a message to publishers that we won't consume your lazy AAA checklist title?

Of course, the really bad news is that even if you only bought the kind of games you wanted, some companies (let's stick with EA for now) still wouldn't get it. They could make a deep, challenging game if they wanted to, but the people throwing money around fundamentally don't know what that even means. If people went out and bought nothing but, say, Tetris for the Gameboy, all EA projects for anything but the Gameboy would be cancelled overnight. They would invest millions trying to figure out why people suddenly liked Tetris on the Gameboy, would invent some bullshit soundbite-sized corporate lingo phrase to call what they think that reason is (while fundamentally still completely missing the point), and the next Dragon Age game would be monochrome with big chunky blocks, combat would be 6 different puzzle games cobbled together, and there'd be microtransactions for different patterned blocks.

Edit: Dammit, I hate when I ramble.

Well said though

I have decided now. I will use Adam's voice for Derrick's posts.

I always read Derrick's posts in the Deus Ex douche voice. It's fun!

Has anyone gotten their $14 cash back from GMG for their preorder yet?

Got a free copy for upgrading my PC. Will receive code when game releases so I wont be able to get preorder goodies. May sell the code, because PS3 version comes with Bioshock 1, which I've never played.

Will probably put money towards rebuying BF3, though I dont know if that's a good idea or not.

Wait for BF4. But considering Sim City's release, you might want to hold after a week of release for that one.

But hey, if you really want BF3, you might be able to get it on the cheap!

Will trade for TF2 hats.

Bioshock 1 & 2 are on sale constantly.

Amazon even sells a double pack for $5.

Keep the code, pick up the games on sale.

Biochock Infinite is either going to have nothing to do with 1 & 2 or only a slight reference, its not necessary to play through those games.

Plus why the heck would you play this game on console when you have a PC?

we can build him, we have the technology

we will implant his brain with endless open areas, hardcore stealth mechanics and dialogue trees

.. what have we done

Derrick gets a lot of shit for saying the truth. He gets carried away sometimes but he mades valid points, the games we are playing nowadays can be seen as "dumbed down"...
But I love them.

Are the tapes that reveal more information about world returning in this? Collecting them in the original and piecing together the story was awesome.

It's funny. I loved Bioshock but I don't have much interest in this. I think I'll pick it up used. The image posted above made me rather hyped though. I definitely want to play it one day though. Any word on its length?

The hype man, I can taste it! It tastes like masterpiece.

I bet if I lick the game's disc and then lick the Mona Lisa it will taste exactly the same.

It's weird. A year ago I couldn't go a day without thinking about this game, and now that's it's just over two weeks away, I'm just like, "Ehhh." I think I used up all my hype around the time the game got delayed for the first time.

I'll still play it though.

I think I'm gonna end up double dipping down the line. First, PS3, then PC. When I get my Steambox.

Wonder how long it takes to boil an egg at that altitude

Not much, I guess. But it can't be that high, right? I mean or they'd be freezing, no? Suspension of disbelief!

I lost interest over time due to the long development, so it's understandable why you feel that way. But I don't know, I just curiously started paying attention again and hype was all of the sudden restored.

It's just such a striking and vibrant game that immediately stands out in much the same way the first one did, but for obviously different reasons. Long story short, the game seems to breathe and the world looks like a character itself. Been a long wait, but I am thinking it very well may be worth it.

Please be longer than 30 seconds, and be longer than a minute please!

At least the extended version. Man, they're going all out on this game. Excellent.

I'm so worried my computer won't be able to run this with good graphics turned on :(

What's your specs ?
8129MB RAM
GeForce GTX 560 Ti
i5 750 @ 2.67 GHz

I just want to run it in 1080p and I want it to look better than the console version (or else I might as well just buy it on PS3 instead).

Dude, there is no way in hell that you won't get a better looking game than the console versions with those specs. You might even max it out at 30fps.

Are you sure about that? Because I'm looking at the picture above and it's looking 10x better than anything else that I've played on the PC ._.

Right, you may not run it at max settings (I don't know how demanding will some effects be) but it's a certainty that it will look/run better on your computer than on consoles.

Unless the game is utterly broken for Nvidia users and you can't run it at 720p/30fps/medium settings, BS Infinite like Tomb Raider is a AMD sponsored game.
For the record, medium settings = slighty better than the PS360 :
Playing the PC version on Medium settings is fairly close to the console version, though higher quality in a few areas

Needless to say you shouldn't be disappointed.

All right, I'll take your word for it :3!

Thanks man!

That shot might be artificially cleaned up for promotional purposes. The game does look great though, but it's as much a function of really clean art and smart texture work as it is pure graphical tech.

Or maybe I'm just doing a little wishful thinking, as I have a GTX 460. My other specs are fine, though.

.. what have we done

I enjoyed this way too much

Whelp I preordered....even though I won't have time to play it day 1 (well not supposed to). I had Amazon credits to burn anyways...Hopefully Irrational delivers. I have faith...

Oh and I can't believe Mind of an anarchist is a preorder bonus and $3...It feels like throw away PR material.
