One month from today: BioShock Infinite

With all the parallels between BioShock 1 and Infinite I hope
you get to become a Songbird.

Also, Booker supposedly has a scarred right eye and Songbird has a cracked right eye thing. Mean something plz.

It'd be interesting if booker
was abusive to a past loved one, similiar to songbird and elizabeth's dynamic. Some sort of purgatory he's in

Booker's mission is to make time itself right again.

Make it right.

Booker is sent to Columbia by a group of Lakota from the future who need him to bring Elizabeth to the present so they can go back and kill the entire 7th cavalry for the Wounded Knee Massacre. This wipes away Booker's debt and spares his life. Little do they know he was actually the one who shot the first shot at the massacre.

But can the player finally break this devastating cycle and free Brooker from the grips of space/time purgatory?

Stay tuned.

wait...why does Elizabeth have a noose around her neck at the beginning of the video?

Isn't she heavily protected by Comstock? Makes no sense if hes just going to kill her.

I'm sure the overall situation is completely non-canonical. Moreover, I think it's just like BioShock 2's CG commercial/video that illustrated all the shit you can do in-game in a quick way. I counted:
- Handyman
- Skyline
- Bucking bronco/plasmids
- Basic relationship with Elizabeth (rescue her)
- Liz helps you with combat (throws Booker the gun)

I hope this has a power similar to the Enrage plasmid. Ever since the original Doom, one of my favorite things to do in games is make the AI fight each other. And the Handyman is just asking for it.

I'm with you on this one! It's one of the things I liked about STALKER a whole lot. Coming across corpses of enemies that had been fighting even while I wasn't around, or watching a pack of dogs attack a bandit camp through binoculars.

The ongoing conflict between the Vox and Comstocks flock bodes well for some AI fights.

That is what I was thinking.

It might have even been outsourced to another studio.

That would explain why everything is way off in the trailer.

Yeah since the world is going to be much more inhabited and lively than Rapture was, there's opportunity for some of that conflict to spill to the streets and essentially happen "around" the player. It would also represent the city chugging along regardless of Booker and Elizabeth.

I don't really think it could approach Stalker in that regard, with dynamic AI in-fighting being one of that series' hallmarks, but it would still be cool to see it come up from time to time in Infinite.

God, with all these modern day reference, I am begin to theorize what the story is about. I think Columbia is under a totalitarian regime that is very reminiscent of North Korea where all aspects of citizens lives are controlled. However instead of worshiping the Great Leaders, there is much focus placed on romanticized American ideals and on the founding fathers. Why? I am not sure. But under this totalitarian regime, people believe they are living in the early 1900s (again not sure) but could be actually set in present day. (Maybe by following the sun to give the illusion of a longer day?)

Lol, ok my theory got pretty out of hand.

Yup totally agreed. I think it was a studio called Blur (they did Bio2 and a ton of other games) which I think explains the artistic inconsistencies.

Wasn't the original BioShock commercial also outsourced to the same company (or perhaps a different studio entirely)? Both are clearly computer-generated renders specifically made for marketing. This is probably why they have visual disparities.

I can't say for certain until I see the 60 second commercial, but I'm far more impressed with the former over the latter.

Breaking: Ken Levine throws all of the produced BioShock Infinite discs into a bin on the moon. Delays game to supplant modern day references to North Korea. Further exacerbates already irascible fans.

In all seriousness,
I'd liken Columbia to a theocracy. It's not quite despotic or tyrannical, but it is trying to force its own xenophobic and fundamentalist ideas onto its denizens.

That trailer was posted in such crap quality that it actually downgraded my Hype.

Need 1080p from Gamersyde!

But then I watched/Listened to Elizabeth's Theme and my Hype went back up, so it's OK!

Yup! The trailer that made me fall in love with Bio1. First person perspective, Big Daddy drilling through the guy's hand, etc. I bet you they did the Beyond the Sea tv spot too. Google "Blur vfx", its amazing the amount of stuff they've done.

You're right. They did the proof of concept videos for ALL of the BioShock games. They've also completed render work that ranges from CGI in Spider-Man 2 (the video game) to the opening title sequence of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

It hasn't been confirmed that they're responsible for the BioShock Infinite commercial, but it seems likely.

I agree with you. I think what delineates the Infinite commercial from the Beyond the Sea spot is that the former decidedly breaks the first-person perspective to outright show the protagonist. This pointedly wants us to see Booker DeWitt as a independent being as opposed to
Jack, who's essentially a nonentity throughout BioShock.

Just like what delineates Bio1 from Infinite :) Booker's an actual character this time instead of a cypher.

Oh, my expectations are certainly in check regarding the AI. Very few games attempt to do it in the STALKER style (which saddens me) and I'm certainly not expecting it here.

It is very cool that NPCs aren't automatically hostile towards you, but I expect things will devolve into an all out civil war by the later stages of the game!

So, you're saying it was
Boy George
all along?
Or (gasp) the ENTIRE
Culture Club
?

Oh shit.

It could be.

But not the one you think.

George Michael.

Think about it.

All he wants to do is touch Elizabeth's body.

That would be nice.

But he has to think twice about Booker DeWitt.

Apologies in advance if this has been asked before, but do you get the rewards when pre-ordering on GMG or just directly on Steam?

If you pre-order on GMG, you don't get the Steam pre-order rewards. I wondered the same thing, but it was confirmed on the GMG forums. I can't complain though, as I pre-ordered Infinite for £23.99 and got BioShock 1 and 2 for free. GMG are currently offering a free game with Infinite for £23.99, with a choice of 5 or 6 different games.
