Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

Whoever brought up the damn charm table is stupid because it turns off players left and right.
I have 40+ hours on 3GHD now, am still HR2 and have a blast even without caring about such specifics of the system.

So much this, I hope the damn charm table discussion stfo off the OT lol.

who cares about skills, I did not learn about it until late in the game. my Rhenoplos set lasted me until i made a rathian set and I cant tell you which abilities it had. Lategame I was mixing armors to look like other characters and geming to complete wharever skill i were the most close to get. I came to learn about skills quite late in the game when I had learn the most important things, like actually fughthing, evading and mos important preparation

Above someone said Qurupeco used to be good, and it had Defense Up S. Barroth also has this, so I figured it might work along those same lines.

Peco wasn't good in Tri because of Defense up, it was good because it had Evasion. I don't know who, but I guess the monster hunter communities of the past games have kinda come up with a tiered ranking system for the skills and Defense up would be on the lower end.

The reason being that in Monster Hunter, you're really not suppose to get hit. So skills that 'let you get away with being bad' aren't usually recommended. That's why the autoblock skill you get by default according to some shouldn't even be used. Their reasoning is that it's just a crutch and you should really be learning how to dodge and position yourself so you wouldn't be getting hit in the first place and lance users should be counter blocking or something like that (I wasn't a lance user).

The thing is, your never going to get a universal "you must wear this or that" answer, there are so many different skills and you're going to have to find ones you like and aim for those. There are no definitive skills besides maybe Sharpness but even now that got nerfed I heard and is more accessible anyway with G rank armor so it's not as big of a deal.

Specific question will be easier to answer. If you asked should I aim for Barroth armor if I main lance? I'd say yes. If you asked should I aim for Barroth armour if I'm going to main LS? I'd say no and then recommend a different early armor set that is better for LS users.

Some questions since I haven't fully kept up to date:

1. Any word on if the digital version will be day and date with the physical one?

2. For that matter any word on manual? RE6 plus the Japanese MH3G incline me to think we won't anything but a single sheet, in color IF WE'RE LUCKY, but if it's somehow there that may push me towards physical instead.

3. In regards to input lag: did anyone compare to Monster Hunter 3 Tri on the Wii? I have a feeling/hope that it's just TV input lag and it'll be gone if played on a good display or streamed to the controller.

2. What do you mean by this? Do you mean a guide? Or a control manual? There is a digital manual in the demo and will be in the digital version of the game also.

3. Yes someone did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rh1HA_hNgsw
There is a few frames of lag.

I didn't personally notice any difference in input lag between Tri and the Tri Ultimate demo aside from the look at monster left shoulder button being something like half a second to respond.

Oh man, I just found a Word doc with a list of all my MH3 charms. :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Pellet +7 (SLOT 2)
Wide-Range +7 (SLOT 2)
WindRes +7 (SLOT 2)

I searched high and low for a Clust equivalent. :(

Well I didn't mean I thought it looked good in general as something to stick with long term. :P I'm just looking for good stepping stones to pick along the way to greatness. And as much as possible, sets that are useful across a broader spectrum of weapons, as someone who might want to experiment.

The last thing I want is to be turned off of a weapon type just because I had the wrong skills when I played around with it.
I see, but are you sure you want to farm Barroth? That annoying thing... it's one of the most hated monsters.

Gigginox is easier to kill and its set is much better imo, I'm not sure how early you can fight it, but definitely not as early as Barroth.

I wouldn't worry if I were you though, MH3 was my first MH game and I played most of the main quests using a Bnahabra and Rathian set. Knowing how to play is the most important thing, skills only make it easier, as people mentioned above.

I feel like the refocus (this is the term that stuck with me from when people were thinking of terms) lag is deliberate, not sure why. Maybe to prevent people from spamming it?

Well that's good to know too, to keep in mind the time it takes to farm materials for a given set. I wasn't thinking about that.

Also, excellent to god-like charms is only possible to get in high-rank. low-rank charms generally are not that good, but keep them too.

If you were using a weapon that didn't benefit as much from the Evasion+1 (GS/Hammer), then Qurupeco was not really a good early game set for you in Tri.

Evasion is applicable to hammer. I literally jumped for joy the day I received an Evasion+7 and two slots charm in Tri.

When I restarted a new character in Tri, I think I ended up using only the peco-set and hammer until I hunted Barioth. And even then I was hesitant.

Generally, low-rank players need not worry about about what armour is the best but to develop the skills needed to not kart. I only need to worry about getting end-game charms, armours, and weapons when I reached high-rank. And even then there are 'helper' events online that can help you farm (e.g. World Eater, a BIG deviljho but easy to farm. Rewards give LOTS of high-end charms.)

In Tri, I played with a clan on women characters only and they wore NO armour at all. And they rock at their game. I wonder if they'll still do it in 3U...

- Good, maybe I will can my pre-order then. Amazon has that 3DS bonus, but this would (effectively) be $10 cheaper minimum, no tax on digital purchases and that $5 returned. Plus I have some cash put in for the VC games as they come out, and the $5 credit would just take their place.

- Physical manual. Like said though it seems unlikely at this point, and I'm guessing the Tri manual would work fine in any case if I needed one.

- Damn (assuming they're both on Wii U), but I doubt I'll notice it in practice, and at worst playing on the Game Pad should minimize it.

I think my first B+7 OO was the Clust one. :p

It's actually kinda meh since you can get the "standard" clust set without it - the only benefit to my knowledge is you can add an extra skill like Rec Speed Up or Bombardier to that set.

The B+7, C+10 charms were typically more useful and harder to get. Such as the fabled Evasion+7, Speedsetup+10 that I have yet to see for myself.

Hammers are more about positioning than evading IMO. Obviously, there are moments where it's "evade or get hit" but proper positioning should limit those moments to a minimum. As a hammer, you should probably be charging for an uppercut/superpound whenever you're not attacking - since rolling cancels the charge, it's not something I do often as a hammer. Plus, hammer sets typically have Earplugs/HGEarplugs so evading through roars shouldn't be an issue either.

The digital version will not be the only midnight release. Since the new Gears is releasing the same day, GameStop will be holding a midnight release. The store I pre-ordered Monster Hunter from said I could pick up the game at the midnight release of Gears. I'm sure this will go for other stores as well, you just might want to check just in case.

This just for NA as far as I'm aware.

That's actually because it's waiting to see if you tap the button again to refocus on the back of your character, if you set the monster refocus to double L tap in the options, it's completely instant.

Oh yea, you're right, completely forgot about that. That makes sense.

We haven't heard anything about a midnight eShop release in NA, only EU so far. :(

I don't remember why I wanted that charm, maybe to gem in Atk Up L, I don't know... My gunner set was pretty beasty. 8)

*checks +7 / +10 charms*

Clust +7 / +10 Stun
Defense +7 / +10 Gluttony
Expert +7 / +10 HeatRes
Potential +7 / +10 IceRes
Reload Spd +7 / +10 Paralysis
Wide-Range +7 / +10 Sense

Seriously.

Thanks, that's pretty helpful and I understand the reasoning of that, I've played several games where you're not supposed to be hit, so go all out dodge and offense, or whatever. And I know that's not necessarily applicable to everyone, either.

Mainly I didn't want to be the guy at HR30 with people whispering "oh he's still wearing that old thing." I mean Monster Hunter seems very much like a game with standards, full of people who have played for years and know the ins and outs.

Peco set is different this time, not as good in my opinion. Right now I'm thinking I'll be going Jaggi and then next would be Ranguro.

Ooh, Ranguro looks great. I have no idea what a Ranguro is, so I'll save the surprise for next week. :)

Yeah, some of the MH elite are snobs. You'll encounter people saying that the city is "theirs" and that they won't let you go on a quest unless you have/do this or that. But then again, all games will have these bitches.

Attn. Mexicans, game is out already in Fabricas de Francia / Liverpool. As proof I only have this tiny image:

Because of the price, it must be the Wii U version.

Pledioth can go suck a fat one.such a pain in the ass especially with that stupid underwater combat. Ill get his ass though he's my moby dick now.

Oh shit, hope someone reports in on the manual's status, just so I know if I lose anything going DD.

Barroth was basically my favorite monster to beat up on in Tri. SnS, loved it, did him hard the first time and from then on. Preferred to the slimy Gigginox.

So i guess im gonna go charm table 10 because it seems to be the most versatile.

I'm planning on using hammer, hunting horn, and long sword mostly.

What early armor sets would you recommend?
