Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

Which youtube's channels is there to follow regular players of MH?The only ones I know are Social Dissonnance and MonsterHunterSketch,I find them great with the live comments!

PS:sorry for my weak english.

What's your native language? On the off chance you're german, there's MHVuze who was playing the Japanese version of the game on 3DS. I think he's starting over with 3U.

I wonder how much of a mess the Monster Hunter Miiverse is going to become when the game finally launches. I'm expecting a good deal of post from frustrated players about the lack of lock on and no monster health bars. Telling people to have patience, go slow, and actually learn the game might become the norm for a while.

I'm glad that Capcom seemingly is pushing the game. Even if it's just online. They have a serious chance here of making this work. They really should have though made more of an effort to put out detail tutorial videos on their youtube channel. I'm glad they were doing the streams but in the end I found them to be horrible and not informative. Not how a purposeful tutorial video with just one person talking and explaining their actions. Not simply showing off a boss fight.

I think you're underestimating players, not everyone is a jaded old reviewer that doesn't have the patience for things that aren't 10 hour AAA handholding. Miiverse could end up being something amazing if vets from other communities step in to help ease new players into the series. Specifically, the kind of newcomers who don't normally do things like turn to outside forums for assistance when they need it - Miiverse is right there so it's different. Back in 2007 all I had was the gamefaqs board and jesus christ were they ever insufferable back then.

I personally like what Yuri's been doing so far but I'm a longtime fan, I appreciate things like a stream showing a marathon hunt in the new game with a weapon he's unfamiliar with. The guy clearly loves MH.

Although I wish they did things like preview streams more often, I have no idea how extensive their responsibilities at Capcom are. The game's supposed to be at PAX soon right?

Also I don't think it's necessary for Capcom to upload things like tutorial videos since the community itself handles that on its own, but I do think they should draw more attention to those fanmade videos.

I vote that Andrex never gets to make another OT ever again.

Sure, tell yourself that. We're all staring at you in here.

*stares*

Whoa calm down everyone, we still have this thread untill the OT comes up...
I mean what kind of post will you make that's different from posting here XD

Wait. They take back the Wii for 100€ ? That's actually quite interesting... Hmmm...

Yes, if you bring back a Wii, DSi, DSlite, DSi XL, or 3DS according to their newsletter, and they have the same deal for the 3DS pack but it's only 50€ for the same systems except for a 3DS where it's 95€.

It also states it's a limited offer for 6000 packs, might explain why it's so interesting.

That's a good point, does the arrow rain hit team mates?

I asked on Club Teamwork and got 2 really good answers. That's the site created by SocialDissonance and Krystian Majewski (made Trauma) for their Monster Hunter podcast. Check it out. As someone mentioned earlier, it also has a cool hunt organizer. Anyway, here's the more thorough answer that I got:

There's three variants: Focused, Spread and Blast (though that may get a new name, what with the new Blast element).
Focused has a small hitbox in which the hits drop down. The hitbox is about the size of your character, maybe slightly bigger. It's ideal to hit specific weak spots that are hard to reach, like Duramboros' humps.
Spread is similar to Focused, except the area of effect is way larger. Because the area is larger, it's less effective at hitting specific targets and has a reduced damage output because of this.
Finally you have Blast, which delivers a single, explosive hit at the target location. It's fairly powerful because it's a single hit compared to the multiple hits of the other two, but the arrow needs to hit the ground before it explodes, reducing its use against flying opponents. The explosion looks similar to a Large Barrel Bomb, with a similar area of effect.

As you might've concluded from the descriptions, Spread and Blast have the potential to disrupt people a lot.
Getting hit by a Spread arrow rain is similar to getting hit by Pellet S, flinching a hunter who's not using an attack with Super Armor. You can probably imagine what will happen if this is spammed with no regards to your teammates.
Blast literally blows allies away like a LBB. No damage is dealt (IIRC), but people will be sent flying, even if they have Super Armor at the moment.
Focused Arrow Rain can still disrupt teammates like the other two, but it's less likely to happen due to its small area of effect.

To be honest, I never use the Arrow Rain, Rapid shots to weak spots (Zinogre's head/horns, Alatreon's head) or Pierce through long monsters (Jho lines itself up perfectly, same for Plesioth) has always felt much more satisfying.
I haven't seen any damage calculations for the bow (and doing said calculations must be utter hell, what with taking charge speed, charge level, range and amount of arrows that hit in mind), so I can't say if the rain is better or worse than normal attack.
Find a play style that you're comfortable with, but keep an eye on your allies.

That's a great pic.

Wow, thanks for that. I am very new to MonHun but I thought I read that the arrow rain attack is one of the best uses of the bow, didn't know you could take monsters down without using it. I'm interested in learning the bow, but don't want to cause hell with my online peeps. I think I'll focus on the focus or blast attacks. I'm guessing that's bow specific.

Finally HR3, so I have some smaller questions:

1. I want the Lagiacurusu Armor-set, but only breastplate and gloves are available? Do I need to kill him more often to unlock the other parts?
2. Do small buffs stack? For example if I get a food buff of Defense (small) and a buff from my companion-dance Defense (small), do I end up with more, or is the second buff useless?

1. means you didn't get some of the necessary drops for these parts. So, yeah, keep hunting him.
2. I believe so, but you can directly check under status, it will display you stats in real time. As in, check after eating, then check after they dance-buff you and see if there's a difference (I think there should be).
3. where did you steal a copy from?
4. can I has one?
5. are you Garou the famous French Canadian Crooner?

Ya, pieces only show up in the crafting window if you have at least one of the ingredients for it.

Yes there will be certain material you can get from any monsters that's extra rare, thus the need to keep killing them.

1 & 2, thanks, so I will drop his spiky ass a couple more times :)

3-5 I stole my copies both from the Japanese eShop :P

Armor set parts unlock based on acquiring certain materials from the monster. Try breaking bits you haven't, yet - for Lagiacrus the face, tail or back shell might have parts you need. Capturing might help as well.

Second question's more complicated...sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. The specific example you listed *should* stack. But if I remember right things like attack up from food didn't stack with a demondrug since they both do the same thing (last for duration of the mission and go away if you kittycart). Might even vary by game. Best way to check is to look at your stats yourself.

Pledioth can go suck a fat one.such a pain in the ass especially with that stupid underwater combat. Ill get his ass though he's my moby dick now.

Man I'm in the same boat. I've probably tried 6 times with GS, which was my main from Tri, and I refuse to give up until I can take him in the demo. I know I should slow down and study his movements (mostly underwater) but I can't help it... I end up just charging in there and whacking at him... I can make it without getting hit too often (use like 2 mega potions) but I just can't seem to get in enough damage in time. >_<

So, where you hit the Monster help getting part of it?

Where you hit will damage parts of the monster which will eventually break (not every area of the body but the more obvious looking areas). For example if it had a tail, and you chop it's tail off and get some material off the cut tail. If it had horns it may break off (looking for a shining thing on the floor when it breaks) and leave a material. It may also be a different kind of drop, like a monster tear etc.
Edit pics that illustrate it better on a Royal Ludroth:

So, where you hit the Monster help getting part of it?

Yes, for example you break a monster's horn you'll generally have a good chance of getting a horn in the rewards. If you cut off a tail you can go up and carve something off the tail during the mission. Likewise, capturing can give you higher drop rates of rare parts.

If you want to picture how this makes sense in an in-universe fashion, the Guild takes the lion's share of parts from any monster you bring down. Your contract entitles you to some parts, but you're at the mercy of what they decide to give you. However if you break a part off mid-mission you can just lug it back to town with you before the Guild gets its grubby paws on it, provided it's in decent enough shape to do so.

Not sure if anyone else saw this. Apparently someone on SA was able to pick up a copy of the game at a Canadian Toys R Us. Not sure if he just got really lucky though. Here's his post.

Zeeman said:
For Canadian goons, Toys R Us may be breaking street date on the Wii U version. I just went by the one at Yonge and Eglinton in Toronto and grabbed the last copy they had out. (I almost feel bad about that, I've never even played a MH game before)

So for a total newbie, what sort of time commitment are we talking about to get into this game?

Also, he had some info on the DLC.

Update: I haven't really had a chance to play yet, but it appears that Capcom hasn't locked up the weekly DLC yet. I haven't tried downloading anything yet, but if anyone's curious about how much of it there is, it's in spoilers below:

There are 27 Event Quests, 10 Challenge Quests and 10 Extras. There seem to generally be 2 or so things scheduled per week through the first week of September

Thanks a lot for the channels!

I didn't know Kotowari at all!For Monster Hunter,I'm unfamiliar with the Moga's environment,I was a long time player on the PSP's episodes, and now I have recently begin to record videos from the WiiU demo(gunlance, lance on Plesioth, and hunting horn on the Lagombi)with the WiiU gamepad pro.

By the way, there's a tournament/avant-premiere organized in Paris by Nintendo and Capcom this friday,I'll try to take photos/videos if I receive an invitation in time!

(I'm French but have 0 opportunity to write/talk in english around me,my knowledges are getting rusty as time's passing by,so I lurk here quietly!)

I, for one, don't mind the OT not being up. I want to get in on thje hype train ealry, and wouldn't be able to take part while at work here.

Plus at this rate, by the time Andrex is ready it's gonna be called the "Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate |OT| There, now quit your bitching" No fun there.

Apparently, game is out in Mexico too. I´ll wait for the digital release though.

EDIT: If I see it at a shop I might give in and buy.

When it jumps on land catch it in the trap and then give it full charged smacks to the head.

I just finished Plesioth with the great sword (for the 4th or 5th time). Run in, unsheathe strike, roll away resheathe, run back in. Try to keep up a rhythm of hit and run strikes to the belly or legs. It's good if you can set up a pile of bombs first then fish it out and blow it up while the monster is flopping. I save my trap until it's drooling because it stays stuck in the trap for a long time. Perfect for getting off a few charged hits. In the water I just swing away whenever it's in range since it can be hard to maneuver.

Yep same here though this is my first real foray into MH.
I've gotten him to limp a few time but the time limit gets me everytime. Doesn't help when I have to chase after him underwater. I refuse to give up though I need him dead before I pick up the game:
