3DS Streetpass Experiences

I went to a Con a few days ago and forgot to check my Streetpass Plaza. I met a Mii twice and lost out on getting another pink/purple Fire Emblem piece.

Are they going to give out purple puzzle pieces over Spotpass any sort of regularly? It's really bugging me.

I've had my 3DS since launch and only on two occasions have puzzle pieces come over via SpotPass that weren't due to a new puzzle being added. That came in the form of Reggie himself showing up at the Plaza Gate, once on the one year anniversary of the 3DS's release and one other occasion I've forgotten. Maybe it'll happen again during E3.

I was in San Francisco over the weekend and got about 11 or 12 passes while I was there. One of which appears to have been Phil from the Player One Podcast. Dude had almost 1500 passes total and the majority of the puzzle pieces.

Man, I haven't brought my 3DS with me since I switched to an XL coause I couldn't find a cheap but durable case.

Ended up getting one for $4 at gamestop that is just great and started streetpassing again.

Way more people have a 3DS now because i'm averaging 3-4 more streetpasses per commute now.

need a few more puzzle pieces to complete everything... working on brain age and the last 2 pieces of fire awakening at the moment

streetpass tagged a person from japan yesterday. Their most recently played title? Dragon Quest VII :( So jealous.

And yeah I'm in SF so it's easy to get tags, but it really depends on where you go. I mostly just ride BART through the busy areas of town so I don't get as many hits these days. 2 or 3 per day is typical.

I kinda feel bad for anyone just getting a 3DS because it's gonna be hell for them to complete all the puzzles :p

IIRC, the other occasion was that dude who did the 3DS presentation at E3. Forgot his name already. Scott Moffitt

can my 3DS be off when it links with other people's or does it need to be on/asleep?

It can't be off. Ideally if you care about SpotPass and StreetPass at all, keep your 3DS permanently on/asleep. I haven't actually turned mine off in several months, and even then it was just because I was traveling and trying to conserve energy.

Every dang time I think I am done with these puzzles I get another new one >.<
Thankfully I am fairly positive I will get them all (again) next weekend at Momocon in Atlanta! :)

I'll be going to Megacon this month in Orlando...I'm hoping it'll mean that I finish what puzzles I have left. It should net me mucho streetpasses though.

When I spend 10 coins on Puzzle Swap and don't get anything, it makes me want to murder puppies.

Build a Play Coin generator machine, wait till you have 300 coins, and then go through buying puzzle pieces. Much less frustrating, when you know you had the max possible coins, and there wasn't a new piece waiting just at the next buy, since you know you bought the maximum you could. Trust me on this. Much less frustrating. :)

What is everyone's greeting on StreetPass?

Mine is "Do u eat poop???" quoting a famous quote on GAF. :p

It is pretty hilarious watching each person saying "Hi" to me, and then I say that.

Haha, I just hold my 3DS and start swinging my arm. It makes for a great
poor
workout.

At the rate they're introducing new puzzles I'm never going to catch up on all the old ones :(

Pretty sure we'll get a Luigi's Mansion one soon too.

I wish they removed the completed ones from the trade screen though, small nuisance.

My standard greeting is "Luigi cosplayer", which changes to whatever I'm cosplaying when at a convention.
I hope we get the Fire Emblem puzzle in Europe soon because I've finally completed all the puzzles a week ago, and streespass feels slightly less exciting now.

I was going to make a new thread about this, but I'm not sure if that would be okay or not, so I guess I'll just post this here for now. I figure there may be a good amount of people who would like to participate in this here on NeoGAF.

My StreetPass group has started a worldwide online event called "Mii Profile Picture March" in celebration of two years of Nintendo 3DS and StreetPass internationally. To participate, all you need to do is use your Mii character from your Nintendo 3DS or Wii U as your profile picture on whatever websites you frequent, such as Facebook, Twitter, or right here on NeoGAF, for the month of March. This is similar to the popular Pokémon Profile Picture Month in December or NeoGAF's own Real Pic January.

The goal of this event is to bring Nintendo fans around the world together for a month in celebration of Nintendo 3DS, StreetPass, Mii characters, and Nintendo itself, and in a way help make Miyamoto's dream of Mii characters becoming the world standard for avatars become a reality, at least among Nintendo fans for one month out of the year. This is something we'd like Nintendo fans all around the world to join in on, and hopefully it can become a trend for Nintendo fans to use their Miis as their profile picture this month each year. This is a community event that's not tied in any way to StreetPass Arizona aside from us initiating the event, and our only intent is to create something that Nintendo fans can all participate in and have fun with. We're not seeing any personal gain from this, so hopefully this doesn't come off as an advertisement. :)

We're already a week into Mii Profile Picture March, and we have a couple hundred people participating. Participation has been steadily increasing as word of the event spreads, and we're hoping that participation really booms towards the end of the month, around the time of the North American, European, and Australian anniversaries of the 3DS's release.

If you'd like to show that you're participating on Facebook, you can RSVP to our event right here:
https://www.facebook.com/events/306166746153226/

And if you're participating on Twitter, you can use the hashtag #MiiMarch to help spread the word.

If you don't know how to get an image of your Mii, here are step-by-step instructions for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U:
On Nintendo 3DS:
  1. Ensure there is an SD Card inserted into the Nintendo 3DS before continuing.
  2. Select the Mii Maker icon on the HOME Menu, and tap "Open."
  3. Tap the "QR Code/Image Options" button.
  4. Tap "Save Mii as Image."
  5. Select the desired Mii Character, press "OK," and select "Face."

On Wii U:
  1. Ensure there is an SD Card inserted into the Wii U before continuing.
  2. From the Wii U Menu, select "Mii Maker."
  3. Tap "QR Code/Image Options."
  4. Tap "Save Mii as Image."
  5. Select the desired Mii Character, press "Create," and select "Face."

Once you've saved the image of your Mii to the SD Card, you can copy the image from your SD Card to your computer, or you can upload it directly from your Nintendo 3DS via the Internet Browser (uploading images isn't supported on the Wii U Internet Browser).

I plan on getting a shit ton of streetpasses this week/weekend thanks to momocon yay
Probably got about a couple hundred today there, easily finished the puzzles I had left -- FE, BT, KD:R. Fire Emblem panel looks pretty sweet.

Gotta see who I whupped in Brain Training now~

yay i finished all my puzzles and another find mii walkthrough thanks to this convention

Just had my first streetpass today and was wondering something.

Which is the better puzzle swap strategy, start as many puzzles as possible or focus on finishing existing ones. From spending 40 coins today I see it seems to select a puzzle at random then a piece so having more puzzles started lowers your chances of actually finishing any of them but you will make progress as less chance of pieces you already have. Then again gotta get those purple pieces so I guess priority would be Purple (new) > Purple (current) > completion.

Also, when I finish a basic puzzle will I unlock another one or does having 2 advanced puzzles started rule that out? Also what happens when there is only purple spaces left?

I broke my record on monday with 7 streetpasses, 4 which I ran on friday

everyone was playing freaking pokemon, black white 2, black white, heart gold

just insane!!

When you streetpass focus on getting puzzle pieces from puzzles you don't have, because that's the only way to get access to the puzzle. If they don't have any new ones, get a pink piece (both of them are not exclusive obviously). What I do is try to get as many puzzles as I can so I lower the chances of getting a repeat, but once a puzzle is about to be completed, I focus on completing it so I can get it out of the way.

I just started taking my 3DS out with me again for the first time in a while, and I probably average 1 StreetPass per day on my way home from work if I walk through a train station and a mall (both on my way home). Sometimes none, sometimes 3. But that's way better than it was when I first got my 3DS almost 2 years ago. It took months of carrying it around everywhere before I got my first StreetPass.

I'd say most people now give me NSMB2 and MK7 data, maybe half have Fire Emblem, and I just got my first Etrian Odyssey IV pass yesterday. Sadly I never get anything for SSFIV. Maybe I need to pop that in again or something?

Assuming you activated StreetPass for it already, you shouldn't need to refresh it unless you managed to hit the maximum number of StreetPass-enabled applications.

Yeah, I see a lot of people playing Pokemon games. X and Y should give usage of streetpass a big boost.

Up to 49 passes now! Excited to reach 50!

Just moved to Germany. Gonna suck not being able to easily get new streetpasses, but luckily I have every hat and all puzzles complete (even managed to finish this last one in one day right before flyout thanks to all Japanese having the puzzle for a year). Of course that will change when they add more.

At least I'll make the occasional German 3DS owner happy to get any puzzle piece. Only found 1 so far, but then again haven't had many opportunities to get out as I'm still getting settled.

Finally reached number 50.

Apparently there is some kind of Comic-Con expo thing in Birmingham this weekend. Sounds like prime streetpass territory.

So Nintendo of Australia is 'officially' endorsing the StreetPass Brisbane (Australia) meetup! Look what they sent to the organisers to give out to us in mini competitions:

That's awesome! I wish Nintendo would do that with StreetPass groups in the U.S. There are probably too many over here or something, though. =P At least they sent my group Kid Icarus: Uprising AR cards and T-shirts for Kid Icarus: Uprising Multiplayer Battle Day, that was pretty cool.

I want a new Streetpass Legend, or at least some new puzzles. I keep carrying my 3DS and collecting Miis, but I have nothing to use them on. :( We should be getting a Luigi's Mansion 2 puzzle soon I hope.

I will be flying up to NYC at the end of the month to spend a week with my brother. I was thinking of only taking my
Vita
to have less stuff to keep up with, but then I started thinking about all of the potential streetpasses I might get while on the buses and subway.

So I will probably take both.

I know I'm super lttp here but the Kirby Anniversary panel has an awesome animation.

I really should get back into the habit of putting my 3DS in my bag before I leave. Somehow I just ended up forgetting to do it.

I keep my 3DS in my backpack while I'm on campus in hope of getting some streetpasses, but it seems like everyone owns a Vita instead because I'm gettin a whole lot of nothing.

More likely they're just sticking with their DSs.

And guess what. I forgot my 3DS again. :S Really need to get back into the habit.

I went to that Nintendo thing at SxSW in Austin and expected far more StreetPasses than the 20 or so I got. Also, because my region is Scotland I wasn't able to get the Fire Emblem puzzle still. I've completed all the others. Sadness.

I've still not had a Nerve Wrack Pack StreetPass for NSMB2 either; just a load of super low scores, or equally pointless 30,000 ones. I did get a Kid Icarus one with an average intensity completion of 8.9 though. Hardcore.

Anyone think we'll get a Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon puzzle? I still think it was a bad idea not to release a Paper Mario Sticker Star puzzle.

Did you just contact Customer Support @ NOA to get that? Local meetups here aren't as big as the AZ ones, but if NOA was willing to supply some bonuses for the local competitions at the meetups, that'd be cool. :)
