Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | March 2013 | Carving an Independent niche

The remaining three Jak & Daxter games were all developed by different studios. I'm not sure there has been HD remasters involving the work of a variety of companies.

Daxter by RAD, Lost Frontier by High Impact games... and wich other one are you talking about?, is it Jak X?, because that one was made by ND too.

But your right.

In fact, when you say that something is "la bomba" in spanish, actually you are saying that is pretty cool. "This game is a bomba", "Este juego es la bomba" means that is an awesome game, so I was very surprised (and confused) the first time that I read one game was a bomba in the neoGAF negative aception. Anyway, I think it's an old-fashioned colloquial expression (in spanish).

[/Dora the explorer]

The term should be "Fizzled Bomba", a bomb that didn't get to explode/blow up.

The vita really needs new announcements and killer apps.

GTA/MGS/GT/console equivalent cod.../better AC.

I know you guys are all vita lovers, and I am too of the hardware, but when I look at its software, there are hardly any amazing games that define a console.

What games do you think define the vita right now?

I think gravity rush

Got Vita at launch and GR is still my favorite. Also loved Golden abyss.

I wouldn't buy a single one of those lol.
announcements like Dragon's Crown, Binding of Isaac, and Ys 4 did way more for my excitement than any of those games remotely would.

I can understand the want for those games, though until we get bigger memory cards, and a higher game size limit (at least 8gb) those should likely avoid the vita like the plague as the size restrictions would likely hurt them a lot as they are all games that typically want a lot of space.

i'd say uncharted.

I guess you could say GA. More vita exclusive games on the quality of GA is decent enough.

I guess I just want more exclusives and not just late ports...

DC is on ps3, BoI late port, Ys 4 localization yusss.

I definitely know I am not the only one surprised that Sly took the #9 for February. I honestly feel bad that I didn't pick it up. I mean for $40 with crossbuy for a franchise that I love, I was a idiot and wasted that cash on the killzone trilogy a week earlier (only because I had some Bestbuy reward zone points expiring that very week).

Glad it didn't completely bomb though. Must be a positive for Sony considering the lack of marketing for sly.

Yeah I am really starting to feel starved for games. I have a tidy backlog for the vita, and a massive backlog on my PS3. I honestly don't feel like getting to the PS3 backlog since the games take a while to get through so I only push through them on weekends. But games on the vita feel better sized to meet my needs. Not too long, but even if I finish it I can enjoy the game long after due to high replayibility.

Glad to see most indie games coming onto the platform from the PC.

Anyways, I may check out hotline Miami and Guacamelee, but so far the only guaranteed buys on my list are Zombie Tycoon II, Soul Sacrifice, and Killzone Mercenaries (depending on its performance, what critics thought of it, and if I will make the last minute decision to pick up a PS4 or not).

DC is on ps3, BoI late port, Ys 4 localization please.

DC is indeed on the PS3, that is actually where I am getting it.

BoI is not a late port, it's a complete remake. Different graphics. tons of new content, co op play (likely not on the vita though)... heck it's going to get a new release on the PC from the sounds of it with previous owners just getting a discount as it will be a completely new game on a different engine. though it's also coming to the PS3.

Ys 4 will be out in sept or so... it's already been confirmed for localization just doesn't have a firm date.

anyways my point was I much prefer games like those being announced over AAA titles (i'd rather play those on ps3/ps4/PC instead). Even if sony did get stuff like MGS or GTA you know it would have to be moneyhatted and just have superior versions ported to the PS4 later, as for CoD best you can hope there is a version like the console version, but with the current size limitations that isn't likely to happen. As for GT there is only two real ways they can go about releasing that right now... looking like utter shit (which will piss of GT fans because they love the pretty graphics) to fit a lot of content, or releasing looking sexy but with very little content (which would piss off the GT fans because there isn't much content) aka they can't win so they just shouldn't even bother at this time...

though I imagine if the GT6 for the ps3 rumors are true that there will be a very very watered down version of GT6 for the vita as well.

Most probably already posted but

New Vita game from Acquire to be revealed next week

http://mind0.net/

new acquire game isn't that exciting for me (they don't have much that interests me but sometimes companies you don't expect to make a certain type of game surprise you) but I do like the fact that it's going to be next weeks famitsu just like dragon's crown new coming out party... I wonder if there is going to be a big vita event next week or if it will just be those two.

Soul Sacrifice and Killzone Mercenary are on my list, but other than that... I'm having problems naming a single game coming out this year other than Bioshock Infinite that I'm interested in. Maybe Last of Us? Maybe.

2 titles on Vita, 1 on all other platforms?
The world must be ending!

Side note - I called Sony customer service today for an issue. Before he hung up, he asked how long I had a PS3, and when I got my Vita. Then we both talked about how awesome Vita is, then he brought up the lack of new games.

... sigh

I imagine the character in Gun Commando has an uncooperative Siamese twin. That would explain the incredibly annoying camera turning auto aim that shifts away from enemies directly in the reticule. It doesn't move it all the way to the other enemy which makes it feel like fighting another person for control. There are other ways to show that there is an enemy behind or beside you like having these things called positional sounds..

Honestly, right now I am hoping for a new grand theft auto portable for the vita similar to the ones on the PSP. Or better yet, if Rockstar refuses to support the vita, I hope some other company steps up (like United Front Games) and develops a grand theft auto clone or better yet, sleeping dogs spinoff for the vita. It would be absolutely glorious.

I'm iffy on mercenaries because of Shadow Fall coming out at the end of the year.

I was just looking at some gameplay videos for PSM games and I watched about 20 seconds of Gun Commando so seeing this post and finding it accurate made me lose it. I'm still smirking after laughing at loud. Thank you.

I wasn't impressed by the footage at the PS4 announce and I don't plan on buying a PS4 until long after launch, so Shadow Fall will be a $10 greatest hits bargain bin title by then. Mercenary is where it's at. at least as far as I'm concerned. ;)

If Capcom would support the Vita with ports of the older HD re-releases of fighting games available for PSN/Live I would love them forever. Darkstalkers chronicles is great on the Vita. It's funny that the main and only problem directed at the game when it released for the psp was the handhelds shitty D-pad, which is of course completely fixed with the Vita.

Hell yeah!, hopefully Sanzaru gets to keep working on whatever they're working on.

I know. They did a great job on Sly 4.

Is the US ever going to get Flying Hamster HD? :(

I wish, my friend. :( At this point, I doubt it. It was released in Europe soooo long ago. Then again, Sunflowers took a while to come here from Europe, too. Man, Sunflowers is awesome. I haven't played that in a long time.

I am more concerned with the online communities as playing Killzone 2 now makes me sad knowing that I must have missed out on an amazing chance at joining a great community.

Same goes for a few games like MAG, Demon's Souls, and Warhawk since they are signficantly smaller or near dead.

As you should be.

Mercenaries would have gotten a lot more attention had Sony not cut it off at the knees by diverting all eyes away to the much shinier console sequel.

Ideally, the game should've been out this spring (and Gran Turismo, but that's neither here nor there) along with a big-ass price drop to give Vita some breathing room before the next-gen onslaught. Leave the PS4 game till E3. Instead it's going to be competing for the eyes and ears of a fickle audience that would much rather save their pennies for a PS4 than a Vita.

When you consider that they first showed the game in January 2011, a logical conclusion is that it's a significant investment they're making and that they don't want to put out a sub-par effort. So with that in mind, it's even more shameful that they're dumping this big project in the crosshairs of GTAV and the looming shadow of PS4.

Stupid, stupid, stupid all around is all I can say about Sony's handling of its second handheld. At least we got portable DOA5 out of this whole sad affair.

Wasn't it completely fixed with the PSP-2000?

But I'm somewhat surprised Sony didn't try doing something similar, maybe launch the Vita with a HD (or close) port of the original Killzone.

Part of the reason I'm underwhelmed by KZ is that mostly being an Xbox fan (don't even own a PS3) I have no knowledge of Killzone at all.

Launching with a Killzone port would have introduced the IP to the platform.

How is that by the way? I have never played any dead or alive games but I am genuinely intrigued by the series. Wondering if I should pick up on this or not.

I am pretty terrible at fighting games though and usually get my ass handed to me when I play tekken over at a friends house. Only game I am good at is All-stars which I am not sure counts as a fighting game.

Ports were what turned me off of the Vita until I got one very recently, and gave it the appearance of a subpar console experience on the go. I'd much prefer more originals.

The game is incredibly fun, and quite accessible to novices. It's even fun when you're getting your ass kicked because you at least feel like you are accountable for your own foolishness.

Compare to the less forgiving Tekken, which my brother couldn't play with me anymore because he'd find himself juggled in the air for 20 seconds with fuck-all he could do about it :-p

It's a case-by-case thing with me. If you're going to make an original Tekken game on Vita, for instance, you damn well better make it an A+ effort or else you might as well just port using the stellar foundations of the arcade/console versions. Similar wisdom to just make BLOPS on Vita a near console-perfect port of BLOPS2 from the beginning would have made the Call of Duty that Vita ended up with a much more attractive proposition for all parties involved.

Whereas something like PSO2, while certainly welcome, strikes me as lazy because it's not the sort of game that makes much sense on a portable (it's online-only). I was giddy when that Phantasy Star Victory trademark leaked, but nothing came of it.

They released a HD port of Killzone last year to the PS3 so that would be the wrong move. Especially considering the mixed reception it received.

I bought the Killzone trilogy (repackaged all 3 games and was released the same day as Killzone HD back on November 23 2012) and can't say the game is honestly remotely good. It is downright boring, stale. Just feels souless at times. Didn't get too far before I almost gave up on the series before I just wanted to have quick taste of the Killzone 2 MP (since I heard good things). Almost a completely different game. Just felt, incredible on the PS3 for a FPS. It blew me away.

Warzone is amazing, it should be the default match in more FPSs rather than just team deathmatch.

I have been wondering. Does sony own the rights of soul sacrifice ip? If not they should lock it down. They can't risk another platform jump in the future.

to be fair sony owns the rights to demon's souls and we saw how that turned out lol.

Still surprised that happened and that Sony was ignorant enough to let it slide. I'm imagining they couldn't do anything about it but it just seemed poor of Namco to pull something like that. I would have loved to know the full reasons for why they decided to go in the direction to go multiplatform but it definitely paid off for them so good for them.

I wonder if From would ever agree to a sequel to Demon's Souls if Sony gave them the chance.

Hopefully at PAX and GDC we see some more game announcements because so far for NA its pretty barren. I'm wondering if Sony is ready to give up on this side of the world with the vita =\.

It's been hinted that we will at least hear of a few more vita indie ports at either GDC/PAX... I know that isn't likely the news you wanted, but quite frankly even though I have played and beat it, if dust an elysian tail gets confirmed there I will be happy (signs are starting to point it will be between the one user in this thread that has connections mentioning it, and the fact the creator was talking about working with video editing for the first time since he cut the original trailer a week or so ago on twitter)

there are a number of rumored indie games to be announced there, I mean a terraria vita port might be announced there (they have said they are looking into it) which could be sweet. It's likely to early for a minecraft announcement, that will likely be saved for E3 for the non ps4 talk.

I just finished putting on a Pitahari Filter for PlayStation Vita (Gloss type) (Japan) that I got on sale from play-asia the other day:

http://www.play-asia.com/Pitahari_Filter_for_PlayStation_Vita_Gloss_type/paOS-13-71-1at-70-4h5u.html

I didn't realise it was a full face protector, I thought it was a screen-only protector but imo it looks and feels superb.

Everything lined up beautifully, no bubbles and can't see any difference on the screen. This is the first device I've ever felt the need to put a protector on the screen coz the screen is so damn sweet and I'm glad I did.

so that piqued my interests.... for the ps3 version >.>; (dat local co op) hopefully it will be cross buy as well as cross save and not just cross save, either way it looks like something my wife and I would enjoy playing together.

also it seems like the dimension mechanic has changed between this and the original trailer.
