One month from today: BioShock Infinite

It's actually Cystm and B33 doing it, but they asked me if I wanted to help. Im just here keepin the peace and maintaining the hype train =D

I loved SS2, but I wouldn't call it Ken's magnum opus. Mechanically it was deeper than BioShock, but in terms of narrative (which is Ken's focus), it was definitely weaker.

I don't agree with that. Bioshock's narrative had some strong moments, and the writing for Andrew Ryan in particular was excellent, but the story basically fizzled out about half-way through (a plotting catastrophe that Levine himself has owned up to). SS2 remained largely consistent from start to end.

Andrew, please don't do anything stupid if you end up being disappointed with the game
:-P

What, like, off myself? lol. Nooooooo.

Ive already stated a few times if I have issues with it or dont like it Ill definitely speak up. I dont fuck around like that.

but i seriously doubt ill have issues with it =D

I think you're speaking from the perspective of pacing, and I agree with your comments to that extent. But there was no depth to the story of SS2--it was very competently delivered, but there are no interesting ideas that get explored. In comparison, the narrative of Bioshock addresses both player agency and Objectivism in a compelling way. Granted, the game says everything it's going to on both topics by the second act, but at least one can say the game was *about* something. All the interviews of Levine I've read point to this as his goal--leveraging the interactive nature of games to more effectively deliver a narrative with substance, and his strongest work will be the one that most effectively achieves that goal.

It's not simply pacing; I think the story effectively goes nowhere past the big event at the midpoint. It's almost half a narrative, or a full narrative with an extra half of a game attached to it.

If we're lucky then Levine will have managed to marry SS2's narrative consistency with Bioshock's thematic weight and Infinite will be his best work yet from a story standpoint.

Will the game be released on the 26th worldwide? My vpn is not ready.

Yes. Which got me thinking about how UK retailers are going to handle pre-orders considering it comes out on a Tuesday. Will they send them out towards the end of next week or the start of the week starting the 25th? (day before launch).

Yeah do what I did with Dishonored after hyping it for months. Express your disappointment calmly and then drink the tears away in private.

Or do what I did with Hitman, go into denial and convince yourself that the game is awesome.

Actually, this is the worst thing to do. Don't do it, Andrew.

lol. You handled yourself quite well in that thread after its release actually.

Going into denial and convincing yourself a shit game is gold is one of the worst feelings you can give yourself.

Alright I need to go rummaging through that Diablo 3 OT. Hahaha.

Don't worry I remember that thread clearly. Most people posting regularly in there were in denial. Probably because they'd rather die then admit I was right where I could see it :P

PAX East Casting Winners Now In-Game!

With this year’s PAX East only a week away, we thought it would be fitting to share the final in-game character screenshots of last year’s PAX East casting winners. You might remember seeing the progress shots we released a while back which included some early renders of the character models, and now they’re ready to be unveiled.

Today, we’re exited to give you an exclusive first look at the final versions of characters you’ll see, along with a hint as to where you can find them as you play BioShock Infinite in about 10 days’ time.

I went ahead and used my 15 dollar credit from GMG on the season pass, a practice that I hate...but I keep telling myself that it's only costing me 4 dollars.

You guys think the Steam bonus will reach the get a free copy of XCom?...I am still debating if I go 360 or PC with this game and XCom would definetly make me buy it on PC...
