Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | March 2013 | Carving an Independent niche

New Vita owner here. Just downloaded all the PSN+ stuff and got Persona 4 Golden. Impressed at how light this thing is.

Welcome! And yes the form factor and build are great! Speaking of does anyone actually hold their Vita by the indents on the back?

Top of the Page recommendation, make sure Soul Sacrifice is on your to-buy list for a great online community when the game launches!

i hold in a variety of ways..

sometimes i grip it in 1 hand and use that same hand's index finger to play PvZ... if im playing uncharted or more conventional games indexes are on the shoulders and middles are on the indents on the back...

back touch can severely ruin any hold though... :/

Nice, same set up I use for most (index on shoulders, middle on indents) but I play PvZ with buttons, is it easier to use touch when the game gets really crazy? I was getting that impression as I started moving into the night levels.

Thanks for all of the recommendations for P4G, received it today and LOVING it.
Also bought GOW:Sparta on the sale and looks fantastic on vita considering it's a PSP game.

Wait PvZ can be played with buttons!? ARGH! Time to go to settings.

Is Jetpack Joyride broken on PSV? I can't really control the character... I haven't tried touching the screen, so maybe that's it?

Shahid is REALLY pimping Ridiculous Fishing on his twitter page. Those same guys made Super Crate Box on PSM, but apparently Ridiculous Fishing is much better. No word on a vita release though.

I just started PvZ as well, been playing just touchscreen so far. Why would buttons be better?

While waiting for DOA5+ I figured I'd give CoD Declassified a shot. I'm honestly pretty surprised.

I guess it's because I went in with super low expectations, but I came away happy. I think it's definitely a step up from Resistance in every way, with the one exception being there's no real campaign in CoD. It's bite sized missions on the go that I guess you're supposed to replay over and over. That's fine and dandy, but for me Hostiles mode is where I'm finding the real fun.

Hostiles mode is pretty much a "Horde" mode where you're running around a multiplayer map taking out waves of enemies that get progressively harder. In between rounds an item drop will appear that you have a limited amount of time to get to. Sometimes it's a new gun, and sometimes it could be an airstrike, or something else. Ammo is VERY limited and you only gain more from fallen enemies.

It's the type of mode I could easily see myself coming back to long after I've tired of the missions. The controls are also a bit better than I expected. Not as smooth as a Dualshock 3, but manageable.

Tried to check out online multiplayer last night but I either couldn't get into a game, or the whole thing just dropped out. Not very promising in that regard.

While I don't think it's worth $50, I also don't think it deserves the lashing it received on review sites. It's nothing mind blowing, but it's a solid effort. I can't help but wonder if it would've been better received had it launched at $30?

update jetpack and you can use buttons, the original download only allows back screen touch screen unless you set it to use front in settings.

as for why buttons could be better on PvZ, the vita screen plus big fingers = minor accuracy issues... which buttons can alleviate.

Right, but I thought only on PS4... is there any other game that use this function right now?
It's marketed as "Cross-Controller". So far, LitteBigPlanet 2 is the main show piece. It has DLC pack dedicated to the functionality.

Sony don't own Ready At Dawn and don't control them, maybe they want to work on consoles.
Ready at Dawn were already saying they were "done" with portables after the first God of War game. They clearly had their eyes set on becoming an AAA console studio, and I expect Sony trying to force them to do a Vita game would only have soured their relationship with one of their most promising up and coming studios and risked them looking elsewhere.

:lol Juggling Trollzama with ^-11-'s CCCCCCCC 6C(juggle into air, time it right) CCCCCC 6C ... CCCCCC never gets old. Got like a 20 hit combo off just that.

I curl my fingers and put the sides of my fingers in the indents. Not my fingertips.

I was playing a bit of Ninja Gaiden Sigma+ the other day and I was kind of hoping it would have been more like Ninja Gaiden Black... just wasn't too big on the Sigma games, I guess.

i enjoy the touch controls a lot on PvZ. buttons would seem to slow things down. but i can see how finger might obscure the screen with big hands..

closing in on that plat though...have a few trophies left...

beat game a 2nd time - will do that soon as im on roof levels now.
kill gargantuans with corn cob cannon - will do that as im on the roof levels now
grow every plant in garden - not sure how many i need still.... been colelcting a while.. anyone know how to see what you have collected or not?
grow tree to 100 ft. - im at like 90.
survival 40 waves - havent attempted... i might just do a walkthrough for this one... i HATE endless waves.

i think that might be it though. fingers crossed this weekend. then i'ts bye bye PvZ... hello new game!

They should've ported NGB not only because it is the superior game but the sd assets could've pushed it to 60fps on Vita, but they went with Sigma.

are you serious.... i just sold my entire gardens... ( granted there were some duplicates...) still i musta had most of them.
i could be wrong but i do believe thats the case

they easy to reget.

goto almanac the rows correspond to the survival-hard map you need to get plant.

eg: sunflower first row so that would be survivalhard lawn day (the first one of the hards)

So guys, this just happened... From the Soul Sacrifice Import thread:

I just signed up to make the OT for Soul Sacrifice, and I'm beginning to work on it now. Just as a heads-up, I might have to ask some of you guys who already own the game to clarify a few things later on.

This will be my first OT, so hopefully I won't disappoint! :P
Is anyone here good at graphics, by the way?

I am an professional animator and illustrator... a little reluctant to sign up at the moment as i'm quite busy, but always wanted to start helping doing the art for OTs. so maybe for some smaller things i can do some stuff on the side. let me know something you need. ill see what i can do.

Why OTs need to be all fancy and shiny?

just keep it simple, text based mostly (so in 4 years when someone bump it it actually readable),two screenshots and some official art is enough.

Thanks for the offer! I have a good idea of what I want in the thread, but I just need some time to organize everything together first. My requests should be fairly simple though. :)

Good luck you two. I'm sure it'll turn out well.
Let's hope so, lol.

Too much text is boring.

If you need extra help or heck is unavailable I might be of assistance too.

Though I'm no pro, lol

All of a sudden ended up with £150 of PSN money. With £40 odd already in, that won't all fit in my wallet at once (I believe £120 is the limit?). So need to spend £70 odd. Bought Corpse Party 1+2 and Lunar: SSH for £30. Also got Missing Link for Deus Ex and Nightmare in North Point and Year of the Snake for £14. Still leaved another £30 roughly

Any PSP/PS1 RPG's on the UK store you'd recommend? No SRPG's or overly grindy games though. Normally I'd just extend PS+, but I just bought 3 years for £55

Ah I should have given a rough idea of what I've played RPG wise

Any more ideas fellow VitaGAF? Still need to spend more money before I can redeem all my PSN vouchers

Damn, I thought I'd bricked my Vita there. I'd gone to check the store and it wanted an system update. I said yes not realising PSN was being intermittent because of the maintainence. The screen hung. I clicked buttons trying to get a response, holding down the power button, the screen then hung on the shut down screen.

In desperation I just held down the power button for as long as I could and it rebooted in safe mode. Doesn't seem to be anything out of sorts but I think I'll leave it for tonight, until PSN is behaving itself properly.

So Machinarium Vita is not dead.
Why did I buy for ps3? Argh.

Quite possibly for the same reason you have not redeemed Dragon Age on Steam.

I'm looking at the page for the $10 for every $50 spent promo:

For Every $50 Spent using your SEN Wallet through April 1st 2013, you’ll receive $10 back by April 12 2013 to spend on games, movies, TV shows, music and anything else that accepts SEN Wallet funds*! Grab a couple free Minis or put your Bonus credit** toward a new release on your wish list. Jump on this limited-time offer by making a purchase with your SEN Wallet today!

*Qualifying purchases that use the SEN Wallet only. Purchases made through third party applications excluded.

I'm really not seeing a "PSM doesn't count", unless that's a "3rd party application".

I looked through my transaction list and I think I already spent $100 this month! :o Half of it was PS Plus but still. $20 back will be nice, though.

So I bought RocketBirds with the $10 credit I got from Sony yesterday... it looked pretty cool from the trailer. Havent played a side scroller in forever, either.

What am I in for VitaGAF? Is it decent

And by the way, Guacamelee looks awesome. I take it there's still no word on a release date?

EDIT: Shahed, I haven't seen it mentioned, but get Breath of Fire 4; Breath of Fire 3 as well if you're on the UK store as it seems you are. Both very good RPGs and neither too grindy.

You really should give some SRPGs a shot, though... I really liked Jeanne D'Arc!
