Creepy unsolved/paranormal/strange events thread

Ghost stories? Wow, it's like the dark ages in this thread. Uri Geller has a bridge to sell you.

It's all in your heads, our brains are wired for false positives, the penalty is low compared to false negatives, ie. reacting to small noises is better than ignoring predators sneaking up on you for dinner.

I guess we'll have to stick to fun stories about creepy things that happened to us

I'm glad you cleared that up for everyone, we can shut this thread down now that everyone is enlightened.

Edit: This has probably been mentioned before, but if you guys like to listen to other people's ghost stories, look up some of the old Art Bell Ghost to Ghost episodes on Youtube. They're absolutely fantastic. Also, if you want to up the scare factor a bit, play Minecraft while you listen. Exploring dark caverns while listening to chilling stories is the best and worst thing ever.

Ghost stories are fun as hell for me whether I believe them or not. Theres just something nice about them.

Those BEK stories are cool. Creepy as hell. I never heard of that podcast before but I think Im going to start listening. Ive been really into stuff like Para-X radio (which ranges from fun to horrible) and Jim Harolds Campfire just to listen to other peoples stories. This thread is also great but sometimes hearing it spoken out is soooo much creepier.

I suppose now would be the time to talk about my own experiences. They aren't really creepy or anything though.

The house that I grew up in wasn't especially old but my family has owned it for, at this point, something like 50-60 years. While I lived there I had a few experiences, mostly little things. The most common occurrence was drawers in the hallway that would open about a half-inch to an inch on their own. The drawers were built into the wall and they were old. The railings for the drawers were wood and the drawer itself had no wheels so it was wood on wood when they were slid open or closed. It was not possible for them to slide open or closed without a decent amount of force being applied, even if they were empty. I'd be home alone, walk out of my room into the hallway and see a drawer opened. I'd push it completely closed and continue doing whatever it was I planned on doing. Head back to my room, look at the drawer again and it's still closed. After awhile I'd leave my room again and the drawer would be open. No one had come home during that time. My dad had an Z28, so when he came home, it was impossible not to hear him drive into the driveway. I have no explanation as to what would cause that to happen.

The most significant occurrence that I experienced in the house was after my Father remarried and my Stepmother and sister moved in. I was in the Den of the house watching TV and I heard my Dad call me. Now, he didn't call me by my name but by a nickname that only he used. I walked towards his room on the other side of the house and met him in the hallway between all the bedrooms. I asked him "What's up?" and he replied "What did you want?" Now my dad can be a bit of a joker so I immediately assumed he was messing me but he assured me that he hadn't called me but that I instead had called him. He even turned to my step sister who agreed that she heard me call him.. and not by "Dad" but by "Pops," which again.. was something that only I called him. What really convinced me was my Step sisters insistence that she heard me as well. She's terrible with jokes and pranks and can never so much as keep a straight face when she attempts either. Yet there she was, completely straight faced and adamant that she had heard me call my father. My dad and I both shrugged it off and just chalked it up to being one of those weird things that happened and went back to what we were doing. Nothing else odd happened that day.

There were more things that happened in that house. I had "vibes" and "feelings" but those aren't really dependable. More substantial things happened to my Step mother and sister once they moved in but since I didn't witness them or have them happen to me, I can't attest to their validity. I could relay what I've been told about them if people were interested though.

Reading some of these stories can be fun, and I don't think the point if the thread is to prove that ghosts exist (at least I hope it isn't).

Seeing how people react to a critical post is also amusing. AgentP is right even if it bothers some people here, but I still enjoy reading stories even if they are impossible and implausible.

It was the snooty tone of his post that set me off, not the implication that everyone in this thread is wrong.

I've always looked at your story as one of the genuine creepy stories in the thread, but ectoplasm? It's more distubring and creepy thinking of what the origins of that photo could possibly be... but ectoplasm is definitely a stretch.

It was a stupid post because it had little to do with the point of the thread. It seems like the majority of people in here are at least agnostic about "ghosts" and paranormal occurrences, if not downright skeptical (as I am). But like you, the stories are fun to read for me and wonder what really happened or how it could be explained or just to get creeped out and lightly entertain "what-ifs", etc. And when someone comes in and insists that their cousin was possessed by a djinn or something, no one's shy about expressing incredulity, anyway.

In short, to AgentP, yes, we know, shut up.

I live in a city but my origins are from village in Kashmir so i have past some experiences with these paranormal things. But still i have hard time believing in ghosts of dead dont know why

I have quite a few stories to tell. Honestly as I sat down to write this finally, I realized just how much spooky stuff actually happened.

My ex girlfriend's family owned a large property in a very busy area. There was a house converted out of an old warehouse on the corner of business lot that my ex girlfriend's grandfather had built and ran his own successful egg hatchery, and eventually he ran a fireplace business out of the same property. Buildings were torn down, and re purposed.

This property had silos and old warehouses and very odd haphazard construction done to convert various buildings for ever changing needs. There was a swimming pool underneath one of the garages. Eventually the man(my ex's grandfather) passed away. This man had poured his heart and soul into this land. It was his legacy. His wife whom he ignored in favor of his mistress, was left a very angry woman when she passed away, angry at this man whom she had devoted her whole life towards yet ignored her in the end for his mistress.

When my ex's grandfather passed away in the hospital, we were in the hospital room as the death certificate and various other certificates and bills were being finalized. As soon as everything went quiet, and the various nurses were finished with the old man's body, the door was shut. Yet, a few minutes later, I saw the first of many strange events to follow.

The first thing that happened was a very cold feeling abruptly broke the silence, the door to the room of the hospital's handle turned the door opened and the door was opened slowly and slowly shut as if to not disturb us further, as if something in the room decided well it was time to go now that Grandpa was no longer around(we think it was my ex's grandfather decided that he was no longer needed in the room and so he stood up and walked out the door) It surprised us at the time as the door had been entirely closed, and the handle was pushed down to open the door with an audible noise.

A few months later, while some young children in the family were playing in a playroom near a staircase without a handrail. The youngest child,my ex's nephew who was 3 years old at the time. He suddenly said "GRANDMA SAYS GET OFF THE STAIRS" We heard this and went into the room, and the child shouted again "GRANDMA SAYS GET OFF THE STAIRS NOW" His great grandmother or my ex's grandmother always had told children to never play on that staircase, and absolutely threw a fit if any child went near the stairs.

It scared my ex half to death as she had such a look of shock from what she was hearing. We told the children to go play some where else. We were rather confused as my ex's mother had left the house a few hours, and wasn't home. We asked him if it was his grandmother and not his great grandmother whom had told him to tell his cousins to not play on the stairs.

He responded, "No no not Grandma. Grandma isn't here. Other Grandma is.Other Grandma is Angry. Other grandma says to get off the stairs"

I always remember walking down through the factory and hearing what sounded like footsteps behind me, or random doors opening and shutting at night. It was probably one of the most spooky places one could ever visit.

The same child's mother and stepfather also lived on this property(there were at least 3 separate houses on this property) one night were sleeping in their bed, when the windows of their bedroom cracked and I was told, it became very very cold. That young child from before came into their room crying. He told his parents Other Grandma says go" Other Grandma says "get out". This event scared the two adults and within a few weeks they had moved away from the property. Granted this man had been stealing money from the family business, driving away customers. He was not very well liked.

Eventually unrelated to all of this hopefully, the guy committed suicide by running through a glass window into the lobby of a hospital then jumping off the third floor balcony in a delirious state of mind screaming that something was after him while police were trying to calm him down. This happened a year later though, and the family business had gone bankrupt by this point

I lived at the time in a house on the other side of the city. My ex girlfriend worked at night on the weekends, leaving me entirely by myself except for my two dogs.

One night I was sleeping with my two dogs in bed with me, when the door to my room's handle started to move a bit, waking me up, and causing the dogs to wake up and stand up at attention. They were clearly agitated then the door was opened and I saw a man walk by and the dogs began to growl and bark and the door closed.

This scared the hell out of me. I quickly locked the door to the room grabbed a hunting rifle and left the dogs in the room(they were small dogs and I didn't want them to get hurt) I checked the house going straight for the locks of the outside door to make sure it hadn't been broken into. It hadn't, and I quickly went back into my bedroom. I was spooked beyond anything.

A few weeks after that event, I was walking my dogs out late at night, when I noticed this black misty cloud over the roof of the neighbor's house. Normally I would have just dismissed this as being a far away cloud, but the night's sky was clear, except directly over the house. It looked like this black mass just shifting back and forth. It was sitting on the roof, parts of it moving back and forth across the roof, and I felt this cold cold feeling, the hair on the back of my arms stood up, and my two dogs started barking uncontrollably at this cloud, and whimpering. I took the dogs inside and I told my ex girlfriend. She was shocked and told me "that cloud follows my siblings and I around. We don't know what it is, or why, but every so often it visits us. It must be visiting me tonight"

This was a very spooky time in my life. I love these types of stories, and I felt I should share the ones that have happened in my own life. I wish I could easily explain what happened here, but it sure seemed chilling at the time.

Not really paranormal (I don't think) but when me and my parents moved into our new house like 6 years ago, my Mum was decorating and stuff and a silver doorknob fell on her head from no where. There was absolutely no where it could have fallen from. She chucked it away because it freaked her out loads.

My Mum has had loads of paranormal experiences though. When she was like 19 she rented out a room in this basement of flats and apparently things turned on in the middle of the night like TV's, and when she woke up things sometimes were in different places than they were the night before. She's also told me that one night she felt something get into bed with her even though there was nothing there. When she moved out she found out that the place had been built on top of what used to be a morgue.

Also when I was like 1 or 2 I used to point into her room when I was just about to go to bed and say "Man on mummy's bed" even though it was only me and her in the house.

Also something that my Nan and Mum saw when she was 16. My mum was going to her boyfriends house and it was my mum, Nan and granddad in the car and my Mum and Nan both saw at exactly the same time electrical lines fall down and start snaking across the road, apparently they hit a car and it flipped over. My Mum and Nan were freaking out yet my Granddad couldn't see anything. When my Nan and Granddad were coming back from dropping my Mum off apparently my Nan told me Granddad to slow down because there was bound to be police and ambulances and stuff yet when they got there everything was normal, none of the lines were down and the car that flipped wasn't there.

Last night, I watched an episode of Paranormal Witness, and it was about 'The Dybbuk Box'.

That was actually legitimately creepy to me. Hadn't heard the story before. Really interesting stuff.

Edit: There's a bunch of new stories in this thread, I gotta read these.

The 2012 horror movie The Possession is based on that story.

Yeah, read about that this morning. Apparently it wasn't very good?
Didn't see it myself, but it's a 5.8 on IMDB. It got the standard Hollywood makeover treatment as far as I know.

I'm thinking of getting the Jason Haxton book. I've heard and read a lot about the dybbuk box already, it's featured a lot on the Mysterious Universe podcast. Certainly a very interesting and creepy story

Your post was a really good read! This is especially creepy. Again, though, why wouldn't you or she just take a photograph and video of this paranormal shifting black cloud?

Edit: If this isn't in the spirit (*dies*) of the thread, guys, let me know and I'll delete. I just feel if someone recounts these as actual accounts of supposedly their own experiences we should be investigating!

The Mysterious Universe podcast had a Halloween episode years ago where they told the story of the box.

I think they interviewed the guy that owned it or someone related in one of their other episodes.

The older episodes are locked away (soon to be put up for subscribers, I think), but they mention it from time to time in jest when something goes wrong.

And that's the story of how she became your ex-girlfriend, right? ;)

I keep replaying what happened 1 morning, trying to figure out what in the hell I heard, but I always come up empty...

Anyway, I used to work in a warehouse for a wine company. To get into the warehouse you either had to enter through the front office (1 door to the entry only) or through the huge roller door (which you could only open from the inside) which means that if no one was there the only way to enter is through the main office.
One monday morning I had a bit of forklift work to do before the delivery arrived so I thought I'd get to work nice and early at 4am. Getting a 2 hour head start would help me get out early that day. Besides we closed on the weekends so after the Friday shift i thought it would be good to see if there was a messy warehouse waiting for me!

As you open the front door in the office, the receptionist desk is on 1 side, and right near her is a set of stairs leading up to the managers offices. As I locked the door I turned around to walk through the office into the corridor which leads to the warehouse when I heard a rustling noise upstairs. For a split second I thought it may have been a mouse moving and it knocked something over, but these offices are in immaculate condition, doors were locked and they had nothing in them that would fall by a mouse knocking it over (it'd need to be a rat to even slightly move a single thing in these offices). Besides, the noise wasn't muffled and all the doors were closed. It sounded like a person up there! I shit myself, then froze. Suddenly I heard the noise again, this time it was louder! I bolted through the dimly lit office, through the pitch black corridor into the darkened warehouse. I turned on the lights and glanced up to the windows in the offices- no lights on. No movements. No noises. Nothing. I was definitely the only one there.

After a couple of hours everyone arrived through the big roller doors as I was using the forklift to unload a truck. I glance again upstairs and this time I see the cleaning lady up there. She opened up the window and asked who'd trashed the bosses office?!? No one had been in there all weekend. No alarms to signal a break in. The door to the bosses offices was locked. The boss left it as clean as you could get it. But papers were strewn everywhere and it looked like it had been ransacked. I just got cold shivers all up my spine and was really too scared to mention what I'd heard.

To this day I cannot explain what the noise was. I heard the sound of a person up there. I locked the office door so the only way out was through the roller door, but i had also locked the door from the corridor into the warehouse. The weird thing was I tried to make myself believe I'd just heard these noises all morning till the cleaner saw and said what she did.

As a side note, it was a couple of years later that I'd heard there used to be an insane asylum a few hundred meters from the warehouse, but it was now abandoned. It's now believed to be haunted. Not sure if that has anything to do with the occurrence but I walked into that office a hard core skeptic and turned into someone who is definitely willing to maybe believe there is more out there.

My question is, why assume asylum ghosts at all? I know this is a thread for spooky stories & "OMG I totally saw a dead ghost lady in white!", but if you're telling the truth about your feelings, and thats what you immediately jump to...

I'll put it this way. You understand the human brain fails often. Sleight of hand magic tricks, and those eye trickery game are just the tip of the iceberg. Your brains is failing you in those moments. As a former skeptic as you put it, would you put the same validity to anyone elses statement if they said they saw a flying saucer over las vegas, because they saw 3 lights? Would you take their eye witness testimony to heart at all? I'm thinking you'd ask for evidence of flying saucers or tell them to just drop it at UFO. Unidentified. No need to add alien creatures to that. It's not based in fact, only imgaination. Theres no evidence, so why add crap on top of it? You heard noises, and thats the end of it. Adding aliens, or asylum ghosts is just unnecessary.

edit: I also realize that thinking that ghosts are real, and whatnot hurts no one. So continue on folks. Just an observation of mine.

I'm going to guess they went through the ceiling to get into the office. Heh, I think I've been watching too much Leverage, so I view it like a thief would :)

I didn't actually mean to assume asylum ghosts. See I'm not a true believer in paranormal but for this experience I have no logical explanation. I'm not in anyway saying it had anything at all to do with the asylum, just thought it was amusing that something was close within the vicinity.

In all honesty though, I'm still unsure as to what exactly cause those noises. No alarms went off or anything. Even though it was 8 years ago it feels like it was yesterday.
And it had nothing to do with my mind playing tricks- I heard loud noises. Nothing more. I never said ghosts. I just said I don't know. I'm just now more open to other things besides an actual human being getting in there without setting off an alarm and leaving without being seen.

It just pisses me off a tiny bit when I hear hard core skeptics saying that it had to have a certain explanation without hearing all of the facts of the story. And when they do hear the full story it had to be in the persons head. It couldn't possibly have happened. I know exactly what I heard- I didn't make it up. When the cleaner walked into a locked office to find it messed up with it being vacant all weekend I have every right to believe something extraordinarily out of the ordinary happened. But I guess it's my story- only I know what I heard and I can't (and don't really care to) convince people it's the truth, even though it is.

When I was younger, right after my grandmother passed, a huge moth showed up and hung around our house. My mom is native american and believed it was a sign from her recently deceased mother that she was "feeling better." That's when the weird stuff started happening. Our stove vent which had never worked would turn off and on by itself. Apparently I talked to her as I was picking up her native language without being taught. I only remember one incident where I was colouring with markers, and dropped one. It took a minute to find, considering it just rolled off the table. All the other markerd were standing on end when I sat up to resituate. My mom remembers feeling two hands push her off the couch. She was alone. The moth disappeared one day. Nothing noteworthy happened after.

A few years back when I worked at Starbucks, we joked about a ghost we made up that lived in the utility closet. we'd hear noises at night and just made the jokes to shrug it off. On a slow day, myself and a coworker were doing prep work and both turned around to greet someone we thought we saw. No one there. We laughed it off but agreed that we would seperately describe who we saw in our peripheral to our coworker. We both saw a young woman in a knee length blue dress. Dark hair, bangs, but not styled. We didn't feel the need to address it. There just *had* to be some explanation.

That place is haunted alright. I kind of wish I could investigate it.

When I lived in Germany (over a decade ago) I remember not being able to sleep one night. I liked to look out my window as it was right next to my bed, and saw red lights in an ordered pair like the ones in this video:

There were four of them in a diamond shape, fairly close together, but remained stationary in the sky. It was a clear night, there wasn't any typical jet engine noise or anything like that. It freaked me out after a while so I closed the blinds and eventually fell asleep. Not jumping to conclusions, but I sure as shit don't know what they were.

I have a story before I was born.

My Auntie and Uncle were staying at our house one night. My parents were out for the night, so it was only them two alone. They were sleeping in a room upstairs with the door closed. We have a metal spiral staircase to upsides. During the night they were awoken when they heard loud footsteps coming up the stairs and it stopped when it reached the top. It was quiet, then loud, running steps were heard racing towards their door, and then it stopped again. After the silence, a knock on the door.

They did not want to investigate. The next day my parents came back home. Still to this day, they refuse to stay overnight. Footsteps have also been heard at other times at other areas of the house.

Another story, same house.

When my sister was little, she was sitting on her bed, reading, when, what she described as a "gremlin" emerged from underneath the bed and started to strangle her. She struggled and gasped for air, luckily calling out to my dad, who rushed into the room only find some her crying with harsh red marks around her neck...

Another one, different place.

I left my house to go to the shops one evening and left the lamp on and kept my cat inside. As I return to my house, I see through the balcony door the silhouette of a man bent over, petting my cat. He then stands up and walks off. I quickly get inside, and of course no one is there.

Yea.... why would your parents stay at that house ? I can understand strange noises but if something is hurting your sister wtf ?

I'm a total skeptic but I've for my neck hair standing when I read this thread.

When my granddad died, my mom got the news at 3 am. That night after midnight my granddad's cat was freaking out, running up and down the stairs and trying to wake up my mom. And I know my mom is a very rational person who was also freaked out by this.

Seriously.

About 10 or so years ago I was house sitting for my parents while they were away on holiday. I was sitting in the lounge watching TV one night when I saw what I thought was a large dog out there in the darkness, sniffing around the lawn. The garden is fully fenced in and has a tall locked gate, but I figured it had maybe jumped over and couldn't get out. I got up and went to the patio doors to hopefully scare it away, flicking on the outside light as I did so. However, I soon realised it wasn't a dog. It was a pig. A very big, very black pig. I couldn't understand how the hell a pig had got into the garden, as the fence is about six feet tall, but still found it rather funny. Bizarre, yet funny. I banged on the glass to get its attention and it raised its head and just looked at me. The light reflected in its eyes was a little spooky, but the utter weirdness of the situation just cracked me up. I needed a photo of this pig otherwise I knew nobody would believe me, so went to get my shitty old Nokia from the hall. Of course, when I got back after only a few seconds, the fucking pig had moved and I could no longer see it. I grabbed a torch and went out the back door, figuring the pig had gone around the side of the house, but could find no sign of it. What I did find, however, was a smouldering cigarette butt on the grass roughly where I'd last seen the pig. I checked the gate and it was still locked from the inside, and the fence was undamaged. I would fucking LOVE to know what the hell happened that night. There was no way on earth a man with a pig could have got out of that garden without being airlifted out. And how the fuck did the pig get in there in the first place?

Finding that cigarette would scare the living shit out of me.
