Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

..and that's a WRAP.

Would be convenient for home use, but I could see such a thing being banned at tournaments. Plus you'd have to consider lag.

From experience with community developed BT boards, lag is not a concern. But it is not something that's tourney-suitable because if permanent pairing.

At home, it's great and one of the main reasons the PS3 is my main fighter platform. Mine is in a Hori fighting stick 3.

Good on Hori for continuing to try new things.

The lag is what I'd be most concerned about. I always thought that's why Hori made all their sticks wired.

I'm totally down for that stick. It is clear too! Pretty sexy and I'm always a sucker for new RAP nomenclature.

Doubt it will be easy or cheap to get.

I hope they make an AmazonJP-exclusive WRAP. In White/Clear case, that would be tasty. I'm not the biggest fan of that case design and structure to be honest though, It just feels 'cheaper'. But a clear case would make it worth it for novelty.

overall pretty cool of HORI, but i'm worried if they dont get 'enough' preorders, they might not even produce it.

Does anyone know the size of the screws needed to mount a joystick to an HRAP3? I tried the screws from an HRAP-EX and they're too big. I've seen M4 size available but I'm not sure if that's correct.

what stick should I get? Hori Real Arcade Pro? Or a Madcatz TE? Can't decide, someone push me one way or the other!

If you want a stick for both PS3 and PC, get a Hori. If you only plan on using it for consoles, feel free to get the TE if you prefer its form factor. Can't go wrong with either these days, though.

I'm looking to get either a HoriAP3 or a QanbaQ4 lately. My budget allows for both and they both come as PC/PS3 dual as far as I know. Any suggestions why I should pick one over the other?

Also, being as Melty Blood is my main game, would you guys recommend a square or octagonal gate?

Go for Qanba since you're able to play on 360 as well if the time ever comes. Plus it'll have sanwa parts. If the HRAP3 is just the standard one, it'll have hori parts which aren't as responsive.

For Melty, I'd go for a square gate. Octogonal doesn't really provide that many benefits over square (maybe for 360 motions but that's still probably personal preference for some, and Melty doesn't have those iirc). It's just that some people are more comfortable with that gate, but I like square much better for hitting those corners. Both of those sticks come with a square gate, so you can try that out first.

Does it have silent parts?

Doesn't look like it. The stick is the JLF-TP-8YT-SK and the buttons are OBSF-30/24. I'm not 100% certain what they are, but I think the silent parts have unique part numbers.

Focusattack says the silent stick is model JLF-TRG-8YTH.SK. So no silent parts.

I mean for most people that have sticks already it's just a collecting process. A different artwork on top isn't much to care for at this point but if the price is right for that I can see it as a great investment.

Personally, if I'm to invest in more sticks from here on forth, I'll drop it on one of the VLX Diamond's or something completely new on design and components maybe. I was hoping maybe this would be full of silent parts as the FS Pro stick should be cheaper to import than the VS-SH stick.

It's unique for not having any officially licensed art plastered all over it.

Pretty much. Very hard to get anything non-licensed from MC. That makes it pretty cool, especially since we never got the special japanese silent version.

A lot of folks have been calling for one for a long time.

Also, nice that the claw logo is minor and understated.

Sure, I agree, but I prefer "bare" unlicensed stuff, so I'm interested in this.

@Yes Boss!: Agreed, they went with some classy art design on this one. It's the one time the rainbow Xbox buttons ruin the look for me. That PS3 version is super slick.

I have to ask: is currently possible to use an USB stick in 360? Would it work? I have a USB one but I remember (years ago) Microsoft didn't allow this... Same situation now?

USB sticks only work if they're XID compliant, which is some proprietary Microsoft controller protocol. Some unlicensed 3rd parties like Paewang have gotten around it, but typically, most USB sticks won't work unless they're MS-approved.

Octogate is difficult for me. Played with korean stick for few weeks now and I still cannot hit my diagonals properly in Tekken A LOT of the times.

I have this problem too and I don't know how to fix it.

My crown stick feels a little bit uneven between down-back and down-forward. If I hold down-back on the input it always goes to down first and then down-back. So if I were on the 2p side and do a sequence in KOF13 of dash towards enemy, stop, heavy punch followed by a slide (usually db + a button), uppercut will come out since on the input screen it reads (this is all 2p side): <- <-, button, down, and then downback, button. I have to almost hold the stick towards back in order to have not a down input. I don't have that problem facing the left though.

Is there any way to adjust it?

So my fightstick (modded Madcatz SFIV SE) registers button inputs but not directional ones. I've made sure it's not a connection issue and have even installed new joysticks to ensure that wasn't the problem. The issue still persists.

Must be a problem with wiring to the PCB, correct? In which case, do I need to solder the wires back on? Thanks in advance for any tip, kind of new to this whole thing.

the immediate thing I'd troubleshoot is the DP/LS/RS switch. most game menus won't recognize right stick input.
otherwise, verify the 5-pin connector to the joystick PCB is secure, and not installed upside-down.

if neither fixes it, then yeah it's probably a problem with the main circuit board

After about a month, this arrived in the mail from Japan.

Probably the best stock parts I've ever seen. Obviously, these are a step down from Sanwa. However, they're much closer than the TvC stock parts, which were good! The throw on the stick is a little wide. The stick feels a little flimsy, but the microswitches feel good. Buttons are the best imitation Sanwas ever. The controller itself is somewhat heavier than I expected it to be, TvC stick is a good comparison.

Very excited to dive into VF4EVO tonight.

Need some help printing my custom art out... I went to staples today and printed out an 8x11 laminated label, but it came out a bit too small. Anyone know exactly what to ask for at staples?

EDIT: Should probably mention my custom art is for a SF4 Madcatz Fightstick SE.

I'd have Art's Hobbies print it out. You'll get the right size and the button / stick openings will perforated for easy removal. Art has PSD templates on his site, too.

Just tell them not to fuck with the file AT ALL. Tell them it's going to be slightly larger than letter sized.

it might have been set for print to scale. they should print it 100% as long as you got your measurements correct it should come out. or have it printed on 11x17

Hi guys, just completed my first modded stick.
Please forgive my crappy phone camera, but I'm really pleased how the stick came out.

The donor is a Agetec Dreamcast "Green Goblin" for the case, and a Brawl stick for pcbs and wiring.
Semitsu parts was used for stick and buttons (Ls-40 stick with clear/smoke buttons).

I recycled the joystick screw mounts that had to be removed to mount the pcbs.
The stick looks skewed in this shot, but it is mounted square.

One of the problems of my choice of a Dreamcast stick for the project, is what to do with the vmu slot.
In the end I decided to make a back-plate for the start/select, that slotted in between some screw posts.
With some clear plastic over the window, it made an interesting feature out of it.

Whoa, that looks super neat, both as in interesting, and tidy. I'm really impressed with your wiring. It looks cleaner than anything I've ever done, and all I do is replace buttons and sticks. What's the extra face button? Home?

I was trying to partially replicate the layout from one of these.

The original plan I had was to cut a slot in the side of the stick and mount the whole control panel there, but the pcb is L shaped and proved too wide to fit vertically in the stick.
So for the home button I'm having to use the one on the DS3. I toyed with the idea of soldering some wires directly to the pcb and use the yellow start button as home, but my skills at soldering are no way up to the task.

Heh, that looks cool. If I ever got one, I would put pink buttons in it too.

Do pink Seimitsus match the color tone of the Sanrio shell, or were they designed to match Sanwa's pink? Do both match?

Quite a bit lighter. Quick photo to that is pretty accurate for the difference.

Also, the new MC stick for PS3 has shown up at amazon.com.jp (with a 28 March release date) but I've seen nothing for the NA release yet (at gameshark or amazon). Also, amazon.com now sells the Sanrio.

broke down and ordered the sanrio x sf stick.
anyone know how well OBSF-RG's will fit in this?

and oh about the coloring, just comparing from my PS-14-GN's, seems like seimitsu PINK is a bit darker than sanwa's. it might match the pink casing better probably.
