PS4 unveil. SE came on stage. Said they had a new Final Fantasy to show off for PS4 at E3 and left the staging saying "Please be Excited!"

Thanks.

That’s just really sad.

I haven’t been excited about a Final Fantasy for quite awhile now. Well, until this one. :)

This is really exciting for me and here's why.

PAL version of FFX was always quite noticeably gimped, and it really impacted my enjoyment of the entire game for me at that time. Yes, it was still playable, but black borders that compressed the whole screen, bad framerate and slowdown that made Tidus shorter, fatter, and look like he was running permanently underwater and not just when playing Blitzball. All with a launch about six months after Japan and with an apologetic bonus disc with some pithy extras on. This release is a huge deal for PAL gamers because it's the first 'as intended' version of the game there has ever been. I hope I'm able to grow to love it the way I never could before, because I love the characters and general mythology. :)

Ouch, didn’t know the PAL version had those kind of technical issues. Kinda glad I didn’t go through and track down a PAL copy, I had thought about it.

Although, even with the technical problems, you had the International version, which NA never received. So now we both get the best of both worlds.

For the first time in a long time for me, I can finally say kudos to SE.

Any chance some new bosses will be added to the battle arena? For me that was the most enjoyable part of the game.

God of War collection is at over 1m in the US.

Wow, is that the highest one? I would have figured it would have sold more than that, same with MGS.

If neither of those two are nowhere near 3 mil, FF X/X-2 HD certainly isn’t going to reach it.

doubt anything else came remotely close though

I hope FFX do sells more than 3 million, since its on ps3 and vita, and it might bring life to RPG's

I just don't see it happening. If GoW can’t do it (with a singular game/collection release-not combined games), I don’t see FF X being able to do so, even with the Vita sales. And this is coming from someone where FF X is one of my all-time favorite games.

Do people seriously think this is gonna break 3 million? Are you people insane?

There are a lot of people who are irrational about the popularity of old FF games. It'll be interesting if LR ends up out outselling this, despite being only one game for $20 more, and without handheld versions out. We'll see by the end of the year I guess.

I think it's possible X HD could do better numbers than GoW because it's much more popular in Japan than GoW is. It could probably even hit GoW's numbers just in Japan alone, over a very long period of time. We'll see. I wouldn't be terribly shocked either way.

Man that looks great. Hope we'll get FFXII next.

Guess that full remake for FFV onwards gonna have to take a backsit.

More like thrice considering vita X & X-2 will be sold separately.

I don't think the combined price of X and X-2 on Vita will be more than the two together on PS3. If it's $40 on PS3, i'm expecting just one to cost $20 on Vita.

These should really be cross-buy though and the PS3 versions should be available separately from day one. My interest lies more with FFX than X-2.

GOW didnt look that great, and it was done pretty fast with not much extra content.

On the plus side, most people didn't give a fuck about the issues at the time because a lot of people were quite a lot younger and didn't really know/care for such things then, and were just glad to have the game. Nowadays that conversion would be a massive issue. :/ It was for me because I'd been watching streams of the Japanese version for months and months, got used to that way. I saw the intro a million times and thought it was gorgeous and so enticing to the rest of the plot, but when I sat down to actually play the game on launch day in the UK I was surprised to see Rikku's hair looked all fucked up, among other things. The game was still perfectly playable, but I couldn't invest in it as much as I did other games. Luckily things were set to rights from X-2 onwards IIRC, but FFX has always been that black sheep to me. Now, this will change. :)

back then, I would've rather had a functioning game with proper video output than the International version we got, even if that by default makes me 'entitled gamer', lol.

It's not impossible.

-X alone sold more copies than God of War in both the US and worldwide, despite coming out four years earlier, when the console had a much smaller install base.
-Europe got an effed up version (PAL and everything...)
-North America will, for the first time, be getting the International version
-the game was voted the best of all time by Famitsu readers
-it will be coming out on two systems
-X-2 is also included in the collection and will be the International version

If only half of the people who bought X buy this HD collection, it will not only surpass the God of War collection, but will sell more than 3 million copies. And to help this even more, some crazy people like me are going to buy the games on both the PS3 and Vita. And if they come out for the PS4 later on, I'll buy them again.

Didn't FFXIII-2 struggle to break 3 million? Yeah, this is not doing it.

FFXIII-2, Deus Ex: HR, Witcher 2, Dark Souls, Dragon's Dogma, DMC, Heavy Rain, Metal Gear Rising, all didn't break 3 million. And on and on and on. 3 million is a lot still. People act like it's not just to trash XIII-2 usually.

Whether the job was done well or not, it is GoW. The name sells, at least in NA.

I was thinking of SCEA only, but if they are talking all territories, maybe it will. Although I still doubt it.

It's the same with Kingdom Hearts to Kingdom Hearts 2. The first Kingdom Hearts had the exact same issues as FFX, but then Squaresoft became Square-Enix and suddenly someone there game a damn about properly localizing games for Europe. Giving us Kingdom Hears II and Final Fantasy XII at full resolution and speed. And not even in a "We'll just let the player choose to run it in 60Hz mode" way. Nope, a full 50Hz PAL conversion, tweaked to run like intended from the beginning. That was the deluxe treatment, really.

Enix did Square a lot of good from a European view. And now we'll get to play FFX at the proper speed, too. If there's one thing I really like about the HD generation it's that 720p is 720p, no matter where in the world you are. So, no more sloppy PAL conversions.

Yeah, that's another reason why I'm getting this.

Yep, 3 million is a really high threshold for even certain big titles to cross, let alone a HD remaster. I'm really excited for this game, and I know people want this to do well to send the right message to Square-Enix, but I think 3 million is unrealistic.

Who exactly talking to? Reading the posts, there wasn't a single person here that said they were certain it'll sell that much.

It was just some tibit from GameFaqs of all places.

Lots of people said it would definitely outsell Lightning Returns, and someone even took a bet on it. Lightning Returns selling ~ 3 million is a decent guess.

I've decided, despite just replaying FFX via PCSX2 last year, that I'm going to re-buy this. Replaying it made me realize how much I actually do enjoy it, even though for some reason I was thinking in my mind I found it mediocre. It's actually fun and the "zones" are just big enough that the "just press forward" design that the game shares with FFXIIII, but was so actually offensive in FFXIII, is a bit more masked than in the later game.

That, and it actually did earn a place in my mindshare that only FF's that I really enjoyed hold . . . those I can rememeber every cast member's name. That's basically FFIV, FFV, FFVI, FFVII, FFX, and FFXII. FFIX almost made it there but the characters just fall flat for me - and the battles are just terribly slow in that game.

Now, PS3 or Vita, ugh, tough choice.

And I was commentating on that, just like a few others were, am I allowed to do that?

Going through the blog posts and looking at the entry on Amazon.com just raises my hype to ridiculous levels. Crazy how this is now my most anticipated game (well gameS though I don't like X-2) of the year. The amount of hours I will pump in to it will be insane (hundreds upon hundreds of hours were thrown at X on PS2).

Can't contain the excitement. D:

what he said ^

3m worldwide is optimistic, but not unreasonably so.

It could do very, very, well in Japan, in which case there'd be less pressure for it to perform spectacularly in the west in order to reach its target.

Realistically this is the first remaster where the sales of the original titles were at their best in Japan.

Guys, Final Fantasy X was out about a year after the PS2 released and continued to sell extremely well over the entire lifetime of that console on a huge userbase.

This doesn't have a chance of selling remotely close to half the copies that that game sold, lol. For this to sell three million copies would be completely fucking absurd.

Why ? Tons of people are excited at the simple fact that they are getting the International version with added content and would have bought the game for this alone. But on top of that we are getting HD, redone textures and X-2, all for 40$.

The people saying that the game won't come close to selling 3M copies aren't backing it up with anything.
