Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | March 2013 | Carving an Independent niche

Anybody else craving more sports games on the Vita?

I'm having an itch for basketball, and my only options are NBA 2K11-13 for the PSP. Not ideal, having watched gameplay videos
Been teaching my little brother to play NBA jam on ps3 and it hit me that it would be perfect on vita. Do it EA.

I'm not sure where to post this but I thought this thread would be best. I love the Vita but the thumbsticks never felt comfortable, they were too small and slippery. I recently bought some thumbstick covers off ebay and the sticks are now much better.

Maybe there's other people out there who have similar issues. The pack I bought had a bunch of different designs. The picture below shows the one I've settled on. If you're interested in these just search ebay for Vita thumbsicks and you'll find a bunch of different sellers. These covers get my seal of approval, very comfortable.

Are they squishy? Or at least... rubbery?
I bought the ones VanWinkle recommended and I use them, but I find myself wishing the plastic was softer and not as hard/rigid to give my thumbs more traction.

Because Convex analog sticks are basically cancer in controller form.

As much as I love my vita the ergonomics on this thing are god damn awful. The sticks are way to small, and convex like a crazy person's design. Also no analog triggers, and placed awkwardly sucks as well. Not to mention a back touch pad that is basically touched whenever you hold the thing unless you make a claw shape or have child sized hands.

Would have been much happier with an uglier but comfier handheld.

That's kinda offensive, comparing something so trivial to cancer. Is it really such a big deal to you that you're going to compare it to a disease that takes away the people we love and, in most cases, does it very slowly and painfully?

I have mutant blobs and Super Stardust, Im looking for the hidden gem must haves.

Dokuro is a good one for this.

I've just jumped on the Vita bandwagon. £156 inc shipping for the vita, LBP and a 4gb card from Amazon.de. Bit of a bargain in my book. Been on PS+ for a while now and have always bought the free vita games just in case I took the plunge. Can't wait for uncharted, gravity rush etc.

Seems like Jak and Daxter HD Collection is coming to Vita:

Seriously? Fucking win. These are great games but I've ran to a point where I don't have the interest to play through them on PS3 because I have so many other titles. Now I can finally play through them. I hope saves are transferable

VITAS GOT GAME BOIIII

Uncharted takes up 3+ GB by itself, so you might want to upgrade from that 4 GB card soon.

Same. Have this on ps3, but I could never really enjoy it fully. On vita, this would be perfect. Here's to hoping it proves true.

No complaints. Can anyone explain why PAX has been sooooo good to Vita right now? We're going on the second year and its already a haven for indie games and select grade A titles. This thing is going to be a handheld savior on its death bed, my lawd lol

I'm in Japan for a couple weeks and after seeing so many Vitas in the train I went down to Yodobashi Camera and got one + boob ninjas and miku miku. Fuck I never even had a Sony console before, Lord Ballmer, forgive me for this betrayal.

BTW any other JP only games I should grab? I kinda have an unlimited budget, so I'm just gonna geek out on Akiba before I go back home.

I think a hidden gem for Vita would be:

Dokuro

P4G (only raved by Vita owners, not the mainstream)

New Little Kings Story

EDF (Price is a little high)

Gurumin (PSP)

That's off the top of my brain, Ill edit with more later

.

If you find me offensive block me.

I've known plenty of people to suffer/die from cancer. If you can't laugh at death I feel awful for how shitty your attitude towards life will be when you age.

Yeah I do wish they were a little softer, but I still much prefer them to the standard on the Vita.

What?

Good hidden gems-

Most PSM games that are good.

Urban trials

EDF

Unit 13

I would recommend Velocity for Carl, since you brought Minis up, but with Velocity Ultra coming... kinda pointless.

Since you mentioned PSM: SURGE!
Switch Galaxy and Life of Pixel have gotten some good reviews in here.

Other games I can think of:
Urban Trial Freestyle is good quick fun.
Nun Attack has been impressive.
Motorstorm RC is liked by a lot of people.
Treasures of Montezuma Blitz is free and awesome.
Sine Mora is a ridiculously awesome shmup.
Lumines doesn't get a lot of love, but if it's still on sale for $13, buy it, it's great.
I think Rocketbirds was well received; I bought it but haven't played yet.

I'm trying hard to remember games I've completed then deleted for Space...

Really? How come is it available to buy physical online? Did they break the street date?
Retail release was this week. For some reason the digital release was pushed back a week.

I would have assumed it wasn't in this week's store update since that would put it two days ahead of the retail release, but I've seen other games added on their release date after the store update so who knows.

That Jak news is weird.
Why would they port the entire collection -- is the cost to do so low enough that they expect to turn a profit on it? I'm not complaining, just think it's weird is all.

Haha close! I got the same off .de last month for £135 haha, but yea, great deal. You will need to grab a figure 8 plug if you intend to charge via a socket, but those are like £2 off amazon marketplace (click) , otherwise you're good to go. You will, as someone else mentioned, be tearing your hair out with that 4gb memory card though. You'll get Uncharted on there itself, but it's tight.

I see they updated the Vita referral site. I got 1 successful referral, 4 unsuccessful and the rest still say success pending.

Yes, I mentioned that a couple pages ago. I had 14 referrals all pending, they've updated three of them. At this rate they'll be done by the end of the year.

But speaking of that, in addition to $20 on PSN you also get 1000 Sony Reward points. I assume you can buy PSN cards with those points? Does anyone know how much PSN credit can you buy with 1000 points?

switch galaxy on ps mobile is pretty cool, been playing it this afternoon. love the sense of speed, especially when the track bends. that and the electronic music/space atmospgere makes it worth checking out for wipeout fans, though it would be nice if an ex studio liverpool graphic designer worked on it too as the menus and interface stuff are really tacky by comparison.

are you talking about Vita only games or anything playable on Vita? anyway here is my 2 cents.

Vita only hidden gem: New Little King's Story(Feudalism and harem kidnapping sim, srsly) it's pretty good one of my top 10 best Vita games, there is just too many content and stuff to do,it's a smart game, fun and can be played in many ways, leading a squad and invading fools is never this fun and it look very good, way better than the Wii game, sure there is frame rate issue (very bad in places)but it don't stop the action.

PSP hidden gem: Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure(Action RPG,platformer, adventure) my best PSP game ever, it's just that good and very overlooked too (it didn't even got mentiond in GAF thread about RPG games from Falcom)it's also fully voiced game, very good combat system(with depth) and the game can be challenging in higher difficulties, full of Dungeons and puzzles and platforming and characters to meet and enemies to fights, amazing amazing game.
(it look amazing on Vita)

Does NLKS still have frame rate issues?

Well I'm still happy with £156, £135 is a steal though. How long did your vita take to arrive? Cheers for the charging tip, I must have a spare figure 8 plug somewhere.

So I'm sure this is someplace obvious and I am just blind but how do I check my psn messages on vita? On my PS3 I just go to inbox but can't find the equivalent on vita.

Also is there a way to see the cumulative amount spent for the Spend $50 get $10 back program?

You should be able to redeem your points on the Sony Rewards website. The PSN cards look like cardmember-only rewards, unfortunately.

Yes.

Check the email associated with your PSN account. Should have a message for every purchase you've made. All you need to do is verify the dates.

Yes.

Boo :(

Ha yea, I was more surprised I didn't have a spare kicking around the house. Literally like 3 days man. At first I was worried since they sent it via royal mail thus nontrackable. Their estimate had been two days but it showed up on the 3rd, really cannot complain when it beats the best vita deals in the uk by a mile. You will be super pleased with what you can get on it for the price you paid :D

I got mine second hand for £105 but it came boxed with everything pretty much brand new and mint. Can't complain too much at that price. PSN+ at £19.99 on top and everything was good to go.

I thought I saw someone say the last vita os update included folders? How do you start them? Trying to hide away all the crap I will never ever open like email/the browser/near/trophies etc.

Bummer I figured since I only saw it on one post I must be wrong.

Much like my issue with IOS I really wish you could at least hide the icons for useless native stuff that I literally have used once (to check it out) over the course of my time with a vita.

i hear you...ive been looking at a 100% completed worthless welcome park for over a year :/
email can take a hike as well.

I have no idea why they dont let us get rid of some of this crap

Hahah that's close. Given LBP Vita would likely skin me £25 when I got it, I think I still trump you, but it's good. If they could get the official price down to where the 3ds is at, I think they could still turn it round at retail. I still believe it to be a more software orientated problem though. People would pay £220 at the end of the day, if they had the software to match, nevermind if the console was a better price. The indie stuff is exciting, but big first party games are needed to get third party rolling.

Just trying out the DoA5+ demo. Expected the graphics to be a lot better from what I heard.

Still though seems good, but considering I have DoA5 on the PS3 thanks to PS+ I'll give this a miss.

Yeah, it looks great before and after battles, but the graphics during gameplay are distractingly poor. It doesn't look much better than Tekken 6 for the PSP.

Soccer's not my thing, so FIFA isn't for me, but baseball is nicely covered with MLB 13: The Show.

And I'm really hoping EA releases an NHL game on it, too.

Yep. I'm really craving a bball game. I came really close to getting the PSP version, but decided to wait. Hopefully 2k14 is announced if they are still supporting the PSP. =/

Is it a constant low framerate?

Only if you have more than like ... 15 soldiers (half of the max amount) and if you're in town with that many, really. Once you're out exploring it's usually fine. It really is a shame that the framerate held the game back from being outstanding, it really is fun and rewarding. One of my favorite games of last year - I really enjoyed getting the platinum.

The framerate is really the only complaint I have about NLKS, and while it's annoying and noticeable, it doesn't affect gameplay much IMO. I haven't needed more 12 soldiers at a time yet.
