If the creator says that the universe are linked they're linked, and its such a little one that it doesnt have any real impact. its for the fan, i mean a secondary character descendant that thousands year after travels to another planet , its a nod to fans.
But its a link new chronology:
FF X-eternal calm-FFX-2-last mission-crisis core-before crisis-last order-FF7-advent children-Dirge of cerberus.
even though last order is non canon now because of crisis core who retconned it. Lol

Yeah actually it does look kinda upscaled, just not from PS2 video resolution. It was probably something larger than DVD resolution, but less than 720p, which was pretty common for digital masters back in the early 00s.
It's pretty impressive they still even have all this stuff to me, we always hear stories of Japanese developers just losing whole games worth of assets.

I really expected the CG to be completely redone, and the game not to be a 'HD Remaster' technically, as it couldn't get a retail release alone in the West as one, and I thought they'd have lost all that stuff, and wouldn't want to use the PS2 build files. I'm very pleased, and impressed, with what it looks like they've done. Just a month ago this really didn't seem like it was happening at all.

Any guess what would be the size of each game on the Vita fellow GAFfers?

I'm more inclined to get it on the PS3 but lately, playing on the Vita is so... comfy!

i want the game..
but man, do some sort of promotion?
like "if you buy game on ps3, when you buy the both games on vita you can use a code on a S-E site that will give you 30$ to redeem on psn"
because i'm fine with double dipping..
but buying the game on ps3 and then having to buy it AGAIN and even SEPARATELY on vita... is a bit overkill :)

Last Mission is really quite bad. It's unpolished, the UI is pretty shit, and it was pretty crappy visually even when it was released. I don't think anyone is missing much if they decide to pretend it never existed to begin with!

It'll be nice to be able to play it, it's something I never expected to play, so even if it is mediocre, I'll enjoy it as a curiosity more than anything else. On the other hand, the 2 extra dress spheres and the monster capture/tournament thing looks pretty cool.

Did anyone ever pick up those limited edition X-2 PS2 memory cards? You could buy a Rikku, Yuna and Paine one. They were pretty good, and at the height of my Final Fantasy fandom, I bought all three.

What's that about the UI ? Why would Last Mission have a different UI than the rest of the game ? What is Last Mission anyway ?

I might want to play it just for the music...

I doubt that. We're talking about the company that rendered Advent Children at DVD resolution.

It doesn't look impossible for a 480p upscale to look that good, in my experience.

It's kind of bizarre, nothing really like the main game. You'd be best off looking it up on youtube to get a handle on just how different it is to the main game. From memory, the combat is grid based and you're climbing this tower, with your reward being a cutscene every 10 or so floors.

Throw in Dissidia into the timeline while you at it. Pretty sure its canon now.

It actually looks a bit like Chocobo's Dungeon.

CD was ok, but nothing to write home about.

I'll probably play Last Mission just to try it out, as long it is localized. If not, then I'll just stick with X/X-2.

I think it's safe to say that the text will be in English. I don't very much care about them redubbing the thing in English.

I just hope that they will be lazy, and do like star ocean the last hope on ps3,one version for all japan-english dub, EFIG for texts .
I'm french so i dot care for english dub, all i want is original dub so japanese in this case.

I remember a trailer on the Spirits Within DVD had some FFX FMV footage, it looked more impressive than the game FMV.

I am one of the few, it seems, on GAF that does not like Japanese VO. I don't understand Japanese, so I don't want them speaking to me that way. Yes, I could read sub-titles, but call me selfish, however I'd like the full experience of the game in hearing English VO.

Yes, there have been some games where I've even said "Now that was some bad voice-overs", but in general I'm not real particular and fine with the dubs I've heard.

Although with Last Mission, I really don't care if I get Japanese voices, as it's not why I'm buying the remaster. I really wouldn't be too upset if they even didn't include it.

I really hope this re-release is super successful! I would TOTALLY like it if Square gave this treatment to Final Fantasy XII. The game is already super gorgeous, but the characters could use a lot of extra polys and the game world some higher res textures. It'd be GOTY all over again for me.

Your not alone.
If I have the option between Japanese or English, I choose the latter. Especially when the games that include both are generally catered to Otaku, which means your bound to get some little girl with an unbelievably god awful irritating voice in Japanese.

"Different planet different rules" really? But okay, suppose it all takes place in a universe where the laws of physics differ from planet to planet...
Or you could just see that as different planets having different "blood types". There are some differences, but the overall workings are the same.

If the Shinra company is a space-fairing corporation, why is its own space efforts so primitive? The lack of advanced space technology is a huge plotpoint in VII, and a major driving force for one of the arcs of the characters.
Maybe that technology was lost long ago because of Jenova, or it took them quite a long time to finally "re-discover" Makô?

Yeah, let's talk about how they are fucking up the cinematics. :\
Yeah, a bit worried about that. I guess what they did with Kingdom Hearts made me too hopeful for a moment.
Also, a few locations use 2D backgrounds. That could be tricky as well.

Even more important question: will the Japanese voice be included this time around? Surely with the amount of space in blu-ray disc, this should be possible? And yes, the song better be Koda's voice.

I used to choose Japanese in the past but those were times that English VA was atrocious (think of Shenmue). I beat Ni No Kuni in English, and liked it. Its good to know that you don't have to read subs.

I tend to play Japanese fighting games with Japanese VA though.

for english version? I doubt it. SE hardly put JP voice in their US versions, and I think it has nothing to do with disk space. KH HD 1.5 doesn't seem to have JP voice coming with US version.

I really hope they add full 3d to the game with moving cameras, and the effect of the clothes move while walking. from that beta shown so long ago.

Any idea how the vita versions are going to be sold?

Will there be a double pack for $40 or will they do something greedy and just charge $40 or $30 for each.

If I was square I probably would have put X-2 behind a online pass and have it as a download so both ps3 and vita people get the same package. Its not like its the draw here anyway.

If anything, I'd say Koda Kumi is one of the reasons there won't be dual audio. Not using her English versions of the songs was a total burn :(

Since they don't fit on one card apparently then they're probably 2-3gb each. I believe the limit is 4gb per card. Metal Gear Collection was about 3. So I'm assuming that the actual redone graphics and upscale to everything is making these two bigger.

I think that would be impossible, as I believe the environments have a ton of unfinished assets used to lower the memory cost. A 3D camera would allow the sight of such assets and pretty much kill the immersion.

That's definitely my biggest question at the moment. Since I really don't see them releasing the individual games for 20 on vita as cards. But then there's been no mention of digital only, cross buy, or anything. Making X-2 as a download isn't to bad an idea that way their still in one package. Since as you say it's not the main draw, but a part of me would like both in physical form.

Thanks for answering fellow GAFfer. I just finished my first Vita game (Uncharted Golden Abyss) so I believe I can delete it just in case I need more room. I have a 16GB and it's been enough, so far.

Her voice is better than the one singing in english in the games, but her engrish is awful. Let her sing in japanese only.

Maybe a release date will flash at the end of the trailer! Yeah, right, knowing SE they will show an even better trailer at E3 in their closed mega theater.

I always liked how the CG for the two versions of 1000 Words are so different depending upon who's version of the song it is. Gotta admit I much prefer the Jade version, complete with Yuna/Lenne double-tracked vocal. It just feels more committed and passionate than the original.

It would still feel incomplete without the full game.
