Who else has beaten up Mr. T? I can't think of anyone else.

And Stallone did it AFTER being beat down by him. Of course, it is only through the training power of Carl Weathers that Stallone was able to stop Mr. T.

Watching latest Walking Dead episode and hanging out on GAF and being around this thread made me remember that "Merle" was in Cliffhanger:

Also in that movie you had John Lithgow from 3rd Rock from the Sun fame amongst others

Both Sly and Ahnuld have been in movies with other stars, some who would later become stars, others would falter. Obviously Expendables entire gimmick is just a bunch of stars

But amongst their classic movies what are some of most memorable? Jamie Lee Curtis with Ahnuld in True Lies? Carl Weathers in Rocky? Wesley Snipes was a great villain i thought in Demolition Man.

You forget about Alyssa Milano in Commando.

People picking Stallone are insane.

Arnie takes this easily. He's infinitely more memorable. Nothing Stallone has made touches Terminator 2 or Predator in the action department. Those are two of the top three action movies of all time in the West. Overall quality of work is better with Arnie too regardless of Stallone being the better dramatic actor.

Stallone made some good stuff back in the day, but his body of work isn't as good as Arnolds. It doesn't help that he somehow made shit out of the two Expendables movies that basically has a bunch of action stars in it.

Terminator 1, 2
Predator
True Lies
Last Action Hero
Commando
Conan
Total Recall
The Running Man

vs.

Rocky 1, 2, 3, 4
Rambo First Blood
Copland
Tango and Cash
Demolition Man
Assassins
Cobra

Shit, True Lies, forgot about that. Legendary movie. Total Recall... man. So good. I really liked Assassins though, and Copland was fantastic. AND DON'T FORGET CLIFF FUCKING HANGER.

This is not even close. Schwarzenegger is in a ridiculous number of the greatest action movies ever. Stallone has rocky (shit series), rambo and a couple of other minor movies.

Most memorable second fiddles?

Tom Arnold in True Lies :P
Carl Weathers in Predator 1 and Rocky, for sure
Snipes in Demolition Man is a good pick, Sandra Bullock too because she was insufferable.
Arnold's costars on the other hand in general aren't that powerful or memorable. COHAGEN! GIVE THESE PEOPLE AIR!

Nice shout out. Almost forgot it.

Difference between Arnold and Sly is that the best movies of Arnold are just really memorable. They hold up really well, and are genuinely great (Predator, T1, T2). That's just a hard trinity to beat in my opinion.

The three greatest actions movies of the West, in my opinion, are Predator, Die Hard, and Terminator 2. Two of those have Arnold in them. And Predator is number one. It's fantastic.

Tango and Cash is underappreciated

Red Heat was underappreciated too

Cliffhanger was great!

I still do not know why Sly teamed up with this rodent thing, but hey whatever works!

James Earl Jones
Michael Ironside
Charles "Tywin Lannister" Dance
Robert Patrick
Michael Biehn
Jesse The Body Ventura (TWICE!)
Jim Belushi

Does anyone remember when Rambo V was supposed to be Rambo versus an alien in a jungle?

That shit would have one upped Predator so fucking hard.

Get the fuck outta here. Nothing one-ups Predator. I really did love Rambo V though. When he started firing those arrows at bad guys from seemingly 4000 yards away, it was the first "fuck YES" moment I had while watching a movie in a long time.

sorry but no

no arnold character is as popular as rocky, you can go to philadelpia and EVERYDAY thousands do the rocky steps, almost 40 years since the first movie

arnold has the scfi genere advantage, but on cinema history? rocky is more important and memorable

and in the action thing..there is another little character called rambo..he started the whole one man army genere

No, you're talking about Rambo IV.

I'm talking about Rambo V, which has been in development hell since IV came out.

If they did the original plan and had Rambo vs. Predator, with the violence level of IV, it would have outdone Predator completely. And I fucking love Predator.

Rambo is also really influential around the world, particularly with rebels and shit like that. When Rambo IV came out, the Burmese rebel groups obtained pirated copies of it (the government banned the movie) and still to this day use it as inspiration in their fight.

Rambo and Rocky are more influential than any Arnold character.

the thing is arnold got much better budget movies with better directors, cameron, mactiernan, millius

dont get me wrong i love arnold, but stallone is another kind of beast

btw stallone movies music is more memorable per example

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PtvLTZS4Ik no arnold movie music can touch this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsJK7tlBQOQ man, fucking eye of the tiger

Rocky may be more influential since he's based on an actual real live person from Philadelphia.

Rambo has no cultural influence, please, the character himself is paper-thin.

Arnold has a few memorable characters (The Terminator specifically) but you don't remember characters he's played as much as you remember Him playing them. He as an actor is far more influential than Rocky as a character.

Initially that was the idea. Like all vets returning - and returning to what? A no-name man, someone that people would see everywhere...

What Rambo did, initially, through First Blood with vets should be applauded. Rambo's final monologue is just amazing and gave a lot of people a new perspective on how they were treating their understandably fucked up Vietnam vets.

Because Arnold doesn't play characters, he just plays himself in every role hes in.

I agree, there was alot more to First Blood than people give it credit to now, it actually tried to tell a story that had some roots in the real world

Its just that, if you say "Rambo" to people today they just picture a roided up Sly without his shirt and a red bandana shooting dudes left and right, but the first movie had more going for it than just that.

.

i bet you one thing, you can go anywhere, india, filipines, etc etc and they will now who rambo and rocky are

the problem with rambo is the character was used by the reagan administration against russia (no joke) and rambo 3 got that route

Yeah, got you, I was. Part of what made the Predator awesome was Arnold's team. It's hard to create such a memorable cast.

That's because we want to see him playing Arnold in every movie. Would it have made Batman and Robin a better movie if someone else had played Mr. Freeze? No! Arnold is the best thing in that movie because he's playing Arnold AS a mad-scientist.

I wouldn't go so far to call him paper-thin. Yeah, in later movies he became a bit over the top, but in the first one, he was great.

Frankly I don't, and I think most people are sick of seeing Arnold with how his "comeback" has been taken. And him being the highlight of Batman and Robin is a pretty low bar

That's nice, but Arnold is far more well known than Stallone. And Predator is the best action movie of all time! Of all time!

Screw Rocky, he's a pussy. Ay yo Adrian, why can't I box right?

Okay, I'm exaggerating, Rocky is cool.

I went to the theater for Junior. Many regrets.

lol Arnold is a 'character' in himself. you have any idea the legions of bodybuilders the guy inspired?

Arnold in his prime > Stallone in his prime.

But it doesn't matter because JCVD was the best action star. Arnold and Stallone didn't have martial arts. Just muscles and guns.

I used to heavily favor Arnold, but as I got older, I appreciated more of Sly's work.

One thing for sure is that Sly is a much better director than Arnold.

You must not drink

and bake

Now I know to ignore your opinions :P

I love both. Can't choose one child over another!

Arnie.

However, I definitely enjoy watching Sly kill people more then Arnold. As I get more "of the pump" watching Slys movies then Arnold.

Arnold might have been in better shape, but watching Sly work out in the rocky movies and seeing him go crazy in rambo was so good.
