Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | March 2013 | Carving an Independent niche

So I bought P4G today and I just realized PS+ is getting Disgea as well.

By the gods, what have I done...

if you are just playing through the story... gotten yourself 110 hours or so of entertainment... if you are going to try to 100% both of them you have gotten yourself something like 600 hours of entertainment :P

*Thinks about going for 100% for both*

a lot of that time is the disgaea 100%.
disgaea 3 only added like 30 hours for the story in my numbers, I gave it a 400 hour estimate for a 100%, though honestly that might be a little low (yes low... I didn't say the wrong word)

persona I put at 80 hours for the story and 200 to 100%, I think that one can be done in under 200 hours if you know what you are doing though.

Holy crap, does Disgaea require that many play throughs or is it just grinding?

Disgaea is the epitome of game grinding.

It's mostly grinding. I never got anywhere near 100% disgaea 3 but for disgaea 2... (i guess I have very minor spoilers but I tried to avoid spoiling anything)
You beat the story at around level 80-100.
From there you get to spend a lot of time in item world, as there are a number of random extra bosses that are like 500 levels apart meaning you have to get up that high.
meanwhile you need to wait for pirates to show up as you go down in item world... they show up randomly in the first 3 turns, some only show up in levels 75+ of a 100 level item this can take a lot of time, but the grind gets you ready for the true end game content as you will get to near level 9999 doing this and level up your equipment.
after you defeat all the random pirates you unlike the true end game content, which is quite painful and ultimately ends with you fighting the true final boss, a boss that would in a single attack kill the story's final boss at least a million times over in damage.

personally I don't find the grind bad as you always feel more powerful after you get done grinding... disgaea has a huge power scale and it's amazing how you can consistently feel like the character you were playing 2 hours ago would be nothing more than a play thing to your current character.

your disgaea number high

should take about 250....200 with a guide probably

Looks better than I thought after I read something about it a little while ago, but is it a platformer? They describe it as an "action puzzle" game. Seemed like the trailer was implying it was some sort of platformer though.
Yeah, I'm still not sure about the genre. "Action puzzle" much like "action adventure" could be pretty much anything. Someone on PSBlog probably has the right idea though: platformer, and use touch to interact with the graphs/charts/text to complete puzzles and progress.

I think it's a neat looking game though. I hope they have good typography in there too.

Well than I am not so worried now :P. The game in general does sound awesome though, and at least the ill be tied up until SS releases :D.

ah, aside from select few things like what residents do what I don't use guides on my disgaea games... all I know is I have 500 hours logged in disgaea 2 and I am just at the end game content I still haven't cleared it lol.

Given that disgaea 3 doesn't have the randomness of the space pirates though, it very likely does take less time to 100% (keep in mind when I say 100% I don't mean get all of the trophies, I mean also have every item in the game and everything unlocked as I don't recall there being trophies for that)

I will likely get a few pauses at this statement from people who have played the games, but disgaea is a great puzzle game lol.
While yes disgaea is an rpg about getting more powerful, item world itself lends itself to being a really interesting puzzle game when you are underpowered.

The way item world is set up you go through randomly generated dungeons trying to either clear the map, or go into the gate for the next level. There are things called geosquares that also take effect meaning some squares do random effects ranging from stuff like you take 20% damage at the end of turn, you can't throw things, or you are immortal while on that square. There are also sometime guardians for the gates, and while you can't lift them certain skills can move them.

One of my favorite things to do in disgaea is go into item world in an item that has enemies that are way to powerful for me, that if I ever end my turn I WILL DIE, thus I have to clear the floor before giving the enemies a chance to take their turn. This often takes a lot of creative throwing of characters to line them up just right to get into the gate before I have to end my turn, with a limit of 10 characters. Sometimes this is really easy, sometimes the gate keeper is guarded so well you have to make strategical sacrifices in order to move enemies to make it possible on your second turn.

the feel of physical feedback

Gotta represent all sides with equality, bro.

Looks like a platformer with the ability to alter the platforms.
But I won't know for sure until we get actual gameplay footage.

Metrico has a ton of potencial to be gimmicky fun. For example some stages where the charts are the percentage of yellow color in a picture, the ratio between fingers in the back and front screens, etc.

Metrico looks interesting from what we've seen, I guess.

I'm just waiting for a PS Blog post along the lines of 'Terraria out on PS3 today! Vita version incoming' to pop up today but I'm beginning to lose hope. :(

good find!
It reminds me of braid(remember those levels that go forward or back in time as you move?)

Yeah I got that feeling from watching it too. A lot of how good it is will come down to level design I think. The new trailer seems lot more polished in terms of artwork as well, and I'm a fan of braid's gameplay so I'm quite excited for this, liking it so far.

Now is the time to buy P4G if you have not already. This is the first sale on P4G since release. It is such a good game, I don't see it going on sale again for some time. People will gladly pay $40 for this game, but right now you only have to $30.

Well I got my copy from gamefly last night. After the credits song ended I knew I would be getting it from sure. When does the sale end? Tonight ?

I think the sale goes on for another week, if it ends today you have anywhere between 10 seconds and 10 hours to get it lol

That Sully game looks gorgeous. I wonder how hard it is to port stuff to PSM? I'm making something as kind of a side-project/hobby, in Construct 2, but that's mostly for HTML5.

If you code your stuff in pure C# and make wrappers for the external libraries it shouldn't be too hard.

Bawww... I'm not that good at code yet, I've been using engines that are like half GUI half code, so I've been taking baby steps. The concept I have is really cool too and of course I'd kill to have it on a Playstation platform. Perhaps after I get my coding skills up to par :)

to get some inspiration to learn coding properly I would watch this as it details how a simple artist with no programing experience made one of the better xbox live games last year (yeah i know this is a vita thread, but one of the vita members has hinted it's coming despite how unlikely that seems with microsoft publishing the steam version... either way it was a very well done pax panel)

seems like the Store is being updated as we speak.. :O
the discount on the Capcom sales are being removed

Dodged a bullet with the Capcom sale. I also resisted the chicken game... All to be able to save for P4...

Lets see if the discount survives the update. :D

The Persona 4 discount began on the 19th and lasts two weeks. Digital and retail.

I grabbed Capcom Puzzle Collection from the Capcom sale as i'm a huge fan on Pang/Buster Bros. I'm a bit annoyed that it's a remaster/remake of sorts, I was expecting ROM emulation like the Classics collections. They've redrawn the backgrounds, you don't get to see the title screen, and even the "original" music (as opposed to the remix which is also included) has been altered. Still, it plays exactly as Pang should so it's not all bad.

Awesome thank you man :) Gonna check it out after work. One of my biggest problems is time, my schedule is pretty rigid and I can only work on my game stuff for like an hour or two a night :\
